RB Perez leaves team

Sounds like the story went from "he's suspended for the spring," to "he's suspended for the fall," to "he's decided to leave the team." Sorry to hear. Would have been great to see him in the backfield, but you have to take care of class work in order to play. Best of luck to him.Bye Bye Thomas

That sucks:sad2:

What sucks is he could not get a grip on his academics. Hard to say if it sucks from a football perspective as no one has seen what he can do with pads on. So, now it's Hugh, Eillis, Moyd and Sumler at the RB position. PT Gates is on the bubble with regard to getting into school, and frankly I'm not holding my breath on him (nothing I've heard, just the fact that if he's not yet qualified coming from a JUCO, I'm not so sure he's getting in)

I'm looking for Sumler to step into the roll of "bruiser" back. With the Welder now gone and Perez history, we need a guy who can get the tough inside yards and Sumler seems to have the best size for that.

Charles and Moyd are of a similar mold: small, speedy and elusive.

Ellis is the best blocker, and will get some carries, but I'm not sure he fits the bruiser (runs too upright and doesn't seem to use his power well) or slasher type.

We really need gates to qualify and be able to contribute.

Actually we got to see him in the fall scrimmages. In the second scrimmage he looked pretty good...reminded me a little of Chris Brown.

Oh well, that ship has sailed.

We have a nice stable of running backs and I am excited to see what Sumler can do. He is a bigger back but seems to be a pretty good all around back. Of course, a heavy dose of Hugh will never be a problem in my eyes.

Good to hear Moyd is doing well this spring.

PT...get your **** straight and quick!

We need to get this guy over here:

He would have been an Academic all american at knebraskee.

According to the Daily Camera, Moyd has too many lapses and Sumler is too much of a liability in the passing game. Not glowing reports in my opinion...

I think we're in pretty good shape at RB, and I think Charles is set to have a monster year (dude was setting all sorts of strength records - hopefully that will also help him to stay healthy this year). But we all need to say a little prayer for Gates academic progress. Don't have any idea where he stands, but I would LOVE to see him in Black & Gold next year!

JUCO semester ain't over yet.. And he's probably got summer classes too..

My guess is that Hawk will land a pretty highly ranked RB or two in this upcoming recruting class. Which will be easier after the o-line classes we are getting and the recruits seeing some WR and QB progress out of this team this year.

I completely understand that, it just seems that CU's luck with Juco's is pretty lousy. I really hope that PT makes it on campus, but I'm trying to brace myself to the possibility of him not making it.

They hired Dennis Erikson, what did you expect?? :wow:

Oh yeah. I forgot about that one. Still, I wonder if the Alumni down there care about the fact that a guy who flunked out of one D-1 School is considering transferring there.

What the hell am I thinking? Of course they don't care. Can he run the damn ball?

I wish Perez well and hope he gets into ASU after all the kid deserves his shot just like anyone else. Perez could not meet CU'S academic standard that is sad but I truly wish him great success.
