At this point, the level of concern should have hit the wall. There were/are a few desirable DC candidates, and we didn't get any of them. Sucks but not the end of the world. We and any other school still looking right now is at the damage control state. Not saying whoever we hire will suck, but whoever we do get will have a significant number of question marks attached to them.

How about Greg Brown? I know the allbuffs know-it-alls decided he was a bum, but he left for a much better job and remember what Deon Figures said about him:
New defensive backs coach Greg Brown was hired in the spring of 1991 to relieve defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz of some of his responsibilities with the team’s secondary. Brown brought with him a unique coaching philosophy that became the catalyst for an even higher level of performance for a unit that would soon develop into one littered with future NFL talent.
Over the next three seasons, the secondary would produce two Thorpe Award winners and four NFL first-round draft picks under the tutelage of Brown.
“That season was all coach Brown,” Figures said. “He came in as the (secondary) coach, and not taking anything away from coach Hankwitz, but he was a linebackers coach who was coaching defensive backs. But, coach Brown came in and basically everybody in the secondary took like three steps up. Things that you did in practice started to carry over into the games. We were like, ‘This guy knows what he’s doing.’ I was happy when coach Brown came in, most definitely.”

Did you not see our defenses under Greg Brown sly? C'mon now buddy. That guy was worse than Baer.

I don't think I've seen criticism of Brown as a position coach.
I have seen criticism of Brown as a recruiter, but he seemed to get some religion on that at Arizona and became ok in that area.
I saw a lot of criticism of Brown as a coordinator. Heck, wasn't a big part of Embree's plan to turn things around was to fire Brown and bring in a new DC? Pretty sure Brown & Cabral were out regardless of whether CU fired Embree.

I don't buy it for next year, but if we don't see much improvement in wins in 2015, gotta think 2016 is the do or die year for MacIntyre. At some point, record matters.
If we went backwards he could be in trouble but as long as there is clear progress year in year id think he is safe.
Of course we could debate what clear progress is but Id assume at least 2 more wins required to show progress.
Given we have 13 games next year it seems 5 wins would be clear progress.

I don't believe that MM goes into 2015 on the hot seat. I do believe that MM's performance in 2015 will determine how hot the seat becomes. There is a chance that he has a performance that ends up with him being fired. There is a chance he could do so well that he could miss a bowl in 2016 and still keep his job into 2017.
I don't think Mac is on the hot seat, but if he hauls in 3-4 wins or less, he could be in trouble.
Agree on the first part, but disagree on the second - I really can't imagine a scenario where he keeps his job if he still hasn't made a bowl by year 4.
You misunderstood me. What I meant was that he's got an opportunity in 2015 to do something like go 8-5, then win his bowl game. If that happens, he'd probably be bulletproof from a 5-7 non-bowl 2016.
Gotcha, that makes sense.

I don't think that this is what you mean but one interpretation of your first remark is that all it will take for MM to be safe is to "not go backwards". Given that it's not entirely clear what "going backwards" constitutes at this point, or if it's even possible, this is a pretty low bar. There is no going backwards from winless in conference. That's all the way at the bottom already.

Going to have to go undefeated in non-conference play to have any shot at a bowl game. The conference schedule is not conducive to wins.
