2015 Uniforms

This morning the College Football Reddit twitter account posted the following question:

Did Colorado give a sneak peak at new unis in the renderings for their new fundraising initiative? (ht /u/Jeric_B)

They then included the following photograph:

If these are what the actual 2015 uniforms are going to look like, I am all for it. I love the idea of metallic gold numbers on the black jerseys.

I'm not sure those are them... they just might be there to make the rest of the photo POP

I think you are most likely correct. On the other hand, it seems like a lot of work to design a uniform with this level of detail for a rendering. But then again, it could have been a fun afternoon for an intern.

there is no colorado markings on the entire uniform, other than a Generic Colorado C on the belt

In true Nike fashion, the lettering on the gold helmet is gold. That's why it's difficult to see.

When you think about it, a gold-on-gold helmet decal could look really cool on TV. Not so much in the stadium, though.

But the black numbers on black jersies sucks.

It's hopefully just one combination of many. It wouldn't hurt recruiting if CU could get on the Oregon uniform track and start having new and unique combinations. The matte black is a great color scheme to implement more, IMO.

Yawn.

You know how, occasionally in baseball when teams will occasionally have "Turn Back The Clock Night" and they'll play in old timey uniforms? Well a few years ago they experimented with "Turn Ahead The Clock Night" where they had teams wearing really weird "futuristic" uniforms that made heavy use of oversized logos and metallic colors. At the time everyone laughed at how hideous they were and the promotion was considered a disaster.

These modern day NCAA uniforms look extremely similar to those used in the failed MLB promotion. Are there people who actually think Oregon's uniforms look good? To me, they look like an eyesore and some of their alternates, which are far too numerous, are difficult to even look at.

Their old uniforms had an original color scheme and looked great. They were classics. The Buffaloes old uniforms look crisp and timeless. Why do we want to mess with the one thing the program has gotten right? Gold pants, black jerseys, Ralphie and white block lettering. Done.

Pro teams in the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB are fixing the mistakes they made in the 90's by screwing around with uniform designs. Changing the uniforms is pointless, a huge step backwards and trying to play a game that we are both late to and should be beneath us.

Then again, I'd support a rule that forced baseball players to wear stirrup socks again, so...

Every one of those uniforms above looks great.

1) They would look less than great after a half dozen 2-10 or 3-9 seasons. Losing is an ugly fashion accessory.

2) CU's current uniform's would look a lot better after winning back to back Rose Bowls.

3) The current design is classic, unique, and original. It has brand value and stands out in today's marketplace exactly because its traditional. Of all CU's myriad problems, the uniform isn't one of them.. Copying some other team's style with a knock-off, on the other hand, is unimaginative and potentially diminishes value of the brand. At this point, ain't no school is going to out-Oregon Nike U.

4) When CU upgrades their uniform, it better not deliver a knock-off of Baylor, for Christ's sake. It must not be worse than the current look, either. Remember how Fairbanks thought adding vermillion (powder) blue to CU's uni was a good idea? Some pimply fanboi thought that was cool and would help recruiting. In hindsight, it was a mistake.

4)Putting new uniforms on a cellar dweller is just lipstick on a pig. No turnaround in the history of turnarounds is based on uniforms. It's not the fabric and clothes. It's the Jimmies and Joes.

5) My opinion on fashion doesn't count. Fashion is a vapid vanity worthy of fabulous cardiosexuals. At the end of the day, I don't really care if the Buffs wear gold lamè cumber buns and pink tutus so long as they are winning the conference and representing the school well by kicking ass in the championship game.

6) Your opinion doesn't matter either. I don't care If you are 42, 32, or 22. This is about appealing to 15-18 high school boys. Nobody posting in this thread is signing a LOI for the Buffs in 2016 and should probably just STFU and face the fact that your football value at this point is pretty much limited to buying tickets and making donations..

Are you an accountant, skiddy?

Most young people are going to associate the uniforms of the last few seasons with losing. I was 1 when we last wore those uniforms and weren't a joke, I could give a **** about them it's not 1990 anymore. All I see as a 25 year old is old uniforms for a fanbase that reminisce's about the old days when all we do is lose in those uniforms now. And if that's as a diehard fan why would some 18 year old from Cali or Texas give a **** about 1990 looks?

Like it or not, new uniforms are coming. They will likely be flashy, most likely will be gaudy, and there will likely be a variety of alternates. Oregon started something that is showing no signs of stopping. The last time our current uniforms were associated with anything but suck was 20+ years ago. Kids now don't care about our history. We do not carry the historic clout that a USC, Alabama, Auburn, Penn State, etc carry with their brand. CU has had multiple uniform variants and has had a look that has changed frequently over the years. The only thing that has remained the same has been the gold helmet with the buffalo logo on it. That is our icon. That is what stands out to people when they think COLORADO FOOTBALL. Bitch and moan all you want about the new uniforms but it is happening, and it should have happened sooner.

I see we have some people still stuck in 1990

Mike MacIntyre sure is being handed several recruiting tools. Let's hope he puts them to good use.

Love the fact that we are getting new unis. I do hope however that they keep the old ones as part of the rotation.Like, once a year wear the old ones. For example when Nebraska comes to town in a couple of years it makes sense to do a throwback day and wear the old ones. Nothing wrong with honoring our traditions. The new ones though are way overdue and will help recruiting.

It's time to move forward and get rid of the 25 year old uniforms for good
