Recruiting luncheon

I know there's another thread on this somewhere, but it's more than two pages back, so I'm not going to look any further.

Anyway, I got a chance to go when a client invited me. Anybody else going?

Gonna be there. Looking forward to how this plays out. I will look you up Sacky. Meeting a group up there, old work dudes, CU alums.

Not going this year. The group I usually go with are all downtown so without it being walking distance, none of us can take a longer lunch to get up there. Not sure why it was changed after all of these years. I'll wait for the reports and hope to be there again next year.

(warning, annual whining ahead.)

My donations are apparently going into a black hole somewhere, because I no longer get emails inviting me to the luncheon. I think I attended for about 10 years in a row, usually with a table of friends and alumni; for sure I attended for all of Hawkins and into the waterbottle era. Then the emails stopped, about the time Mike Bohn left and a new crew took over the athletic dept. Weird way to treat long-time donors.

Just whining here about marketing efforts, (as usual.) I went back through my emails and found several times where I contacted the BuffClub to ask why I wasn't getting Stampede or receiving any emails and each time someone responds that my membership is current, they are sorry and it's being fixed.

The recruiting luncheon doesn't even show up on the "events" part of the website, so it's not possible for anyone to see the event details, or maybe decide to join the BuffClub in order to attend. It IS the BuffClub putting this on, right? Well, the luncheon didn't make their list of upcoming events and "important dates": http://cubuffclub.com/events

(I finally found it on the site; you have to figure out about three more clicks to dig deeper to get to the form.) I agree: downtown Denver made it easy for me, not sure I'd drive to Broomfield anyway. Why don't they send an email to donors any more, or did they just fail with my email address, and everyone else got one?

Downtown worked better for me as well, and I could usually drum up a few other CU alumni from work to attend with me.

Apparently we don't have the entirety of our **** together yet:

Update:

Sorry it took so long. Tapatalk is a piece of garbage. I would have posted live but tapatalk is now nearly useless.

Anyway:

I sat with Coach Bernardi - OL coach. Very personable guy. I asked him specifically about Isaac Miller. He said Isacc is now up to 276 lbs and has been a workout warrior. Said he got hurt playing volleyball which is why he was gray shirted. He also was apparently the lead recruiter for Jay Jay Wilson. The word there is that Jay Jay's girlfriend is going to ASU, and that's why we lost out on him. I'm not completely sure I believe that, but I suppose it could be true.

Whenever I see Jim Jeffcoat, I think of:

If we ever decide to fire that guy, I don't want to be in the room.

Neinas took credit for recruiting Middlemiss and Umu, along with the punter from Ft. Collins.

Walters took credit for recruiting Carr. Said he was on his way out of town when he got a call from Carr's coach that Carr had decomitted from Arkansas. Had a tough time convincing his step-parents, but that Carr was on-board from day one. Apparently, Carr had the coaches send the paperwork to his coach, who then gave them to Carr's biological mother for signature. Eventually, the step-parents came on board, though. It's all good now.

MM said that he understands that many folks left the stadium unhappy last year. He "guaranteed" that we'll leave happy a lot more this year. TIFWIW.

Ariel Solomon and Chad Brown spoke about the "strive for 105" initiative.

Thanks for the update. Pretty bold to make guarantees this early about leaving home games happier considering our Pac schedule. I suppose if fans leave happy just once it will be good enough.

Two other things really quick:

Lindgren and Jeffcoat were apparently tag teaming to get Montez. Jeffcoat found him (didn't say what he was doing in El Paso to begin with, but whatever), and once Lindgren saw him, they liked what they saw. Kid plays basketball, too, and apparently scored 28 points in one quarter recently. That prompted Tad (who was in attendance) to chime in "Two sport guy?" Lindgren got kind of red in the face, and stumbled over his words for a second before MM bailed him out and said "You bet, absolutely".

Klayton Adams was the lead recruiter for NJ Falo. He said that he got a tip from NJ's HS coach that he "needed to get down here". So he did. He sees none other than Mark Helfrich in the parking lot. It would seem that Helfrich was trying to get in on NJ at the last minute. Take that with whatever grain of salt you like, but it's interesting just the same.

That´s what Twitter is there for.

Christ. Don't make me a slave to another piece of technology. I'd suck at twitter. Nobody would follow me. I'd be pathetic. Well, more pathetic than I already am.

See, for stuff like sending short updates while you´re at a luncheon or something twitter is absolutely perfect.

I'm pretty sure Jeffcoat was down in El Paso to see Q Drennan and Q's coach told him he needed to go see a quarterback.

You're undoubtedly right. I just don't want to deal with yet another piece of social media. Facebook, allbuffs, linkedin - that's quite enough for me.

Oh, and I had to lulz when Jay Jay Wilson's bio came up. MM was like "I don't know what he's doing there." They had to do a quick fast forward to get that off the screen.

I don't know if that meant they were really confident in landing Wilson, or if they were just not very diligent about cleaning up MM's presentation. Probably a bit of both. They don't do those bios for kids they know they have no chance with. Still was pretty funny. For a split second, I thought "Hey, did we flip him at the last second?" Alas - no.

Could've seen him when he recruited Eddy Lopez last year... The next big El Paso player is going to be Trey Wolf from El Paso High School.

MM and asst coach both said Head Coach of a conf foe made a last ditch to snag NJ Falo. Last two week kinda stuff. Showed up at the school which is a big deal for HC in that time window.

It was Oregon's HC.

"Falo will arrive most likely ready to play day one according to MM. NFL body, and a great kid to boot." Per MM.

Excited about him.
