'15 Defensive Scheme and Possible Position Changes

We all love the 2 D hires so what about defensive scheme. Leavitt can coach anything and Tumpkin seems to have more experience with the 5-2 or 3-4 under.
I have a feeling we will make the permanent switch to 5-2 or 3-4 Under which means current player position changes for sure. Scared about LB depth but here is my uninformed guess at the 2 deep. (No incoming FS included)
Macartny, Tupou, Samson
Robbins, Solis, Carrel

Gilbert/Shaver, Gillam, Rippy, KO
Reed, Gamboa/Wantanabe, Severson, ???

unknowns - Coleman, Hassleback, Talianko, Matthews, Hennington,

Thoughts?

In the 3-4 under it is my understanding the LBs are really hybrid DE/LB, and I'm not sure your depth chart reflects that. But anyway, maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can comment on the current players and recruits and how they'd fit into a 5-2/3-4 under type scheme.

Here's an explanation of the 49ers D, and what we think HCMM is trying to move to. Certainly, the personnel will be a challenge.

49ers D

I predict the Juco safety will be a weakside OLB. Needs some weight first.

The issue with the 5-2 is that in order to be run effectively, you have to have a legit Nose Tackle and I am not sure CU has one of those on the roster.

Therein lies the challenge for 2015. Can Shaver/Gilbert be effective standing up part of the time?

Huge question. We need that answer to be a resounding "yes". We also need Hasselbach to be able to make the transition because it's highly unlikely he's ever going to line up for CU as a starting DE. Might end up being Falo's natural spot, too.

BUFFAN68. Trying to show Gilbert and Shaver as that hybrid OLB/DE position.

I think Topou and Solis can play the Nose but maybe not.

I like a base D of 3-4 or some variation to counter spread/fast teams but as Duff said I don't see the LBs on the roster that can pull that off. I will be very interested to see what base D we are in in a few weeks spring ball

Tupou can play that position, and it seems less important vs. teams that don't run well.
