Colorado defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt was back on the field coaching players at the college level for the first time Monday since he was fired by South Florida in January 2010 for allegedly striking a player.

**** you dingo.

You could have talked about the team first, but no, you have to dig in mud that's been dry for years.

I don't have a problem with the article. The headline is what I dislike the most, and from what others on here have said, it's usually editors who chose headlines, and when online, the headlines seem to change frequently.

I'm not really bothered by the column. It's the elephant in the room, so to speak. Mighnas well address it. Where I will have an issue is if it gets brought up again.

I do have an issue with it. You start with the story rehash on the very first day of spring practices because they wish to create responses and further columns or portions of stories for the entirety of spring ball.

It's their lead. It just couldn't be about the team, or people returning, or players missing due to injuries, or the earliest spring start, or anything else. Let's just jab with old controversy, yeah, that's the camera way.

/end rant

OK, so for those that have been under a rock..... Ringo to the rescue. He drags the most trash he possibly can about the program and every oportunity and this was a shiny opportunity for him. Done, its no longer a story. Ringo confronted JL. JL didn't run or hide or change topics. He answered the question and dismissed Ringo's attempt to make it anything more.... "Lets just talk about Colorado".... in other words "F off Ringo"

This. I think it's better to get it out of the way. Colfax and Lewis were discussing the hire the other day too and Colfax was pressing hard that JL shouldn't have been hired. Lewis actually kept an even keel saying he deserved a second chance, but also played the "CU is desperate" argument. Hopefully, everyone will react in shock for a day or two and then forget. We're far from fall football. As long as JL keeps himself clear for a season, it hopefully won't come back up.

Also - Ringo almost always starts any article, even the positive ones, with some sort of comment like, "...the Buffs, who haven't had a winning season since XXXX..." or "...the team with no conference wins last season...". He always finds a negative fact to set to the tone.

Better Ringo writing the article than the Kunt of Monte Christo, the 'Kuta. She would have interviewed a rape victim and compared the hire to setting a serial sex offender free.

I think Ringo has a reponsibility to address it. He did so. It's over now. If it gets brought up again, then I will be pissed. It's been addressed. End of story. This doesn't need to be drawn out. I'm sure Leavitt expected there to be some kind of dust-up. He'd be silly not to. In a lot of ways, coming to Colorado was a great choice. Had he gone to a school that is ranked, the questions would be tougher and come from more places than just the random dude in the local paper.

I believe you are suggesting that our ringo covers the minors. Ringo is not happy. He will meet you in front of the photo studio behind the ok corral.

But why the first day of spring practices? We hired this guy weeks ago. It's the timing that grinds my gears.

Because they couldn't easily put something together on LOI day - which was the day he was officially hired. They had to wait until the next opportunity to write something about CU football came along. Would you have preferred they run the story the day that Fall practices start? Or on opening day?

The story was going to be written. Nobody really cares much about the opening day of spring practices. It's an easily forgotten story, but one that needs to be told anyway.

There are more replies to this thread than there are to the actual article itself. This story is dead.

I think that's why there are more comments here. We're bitching the fact that there was an article to try to resurrect this old story that ended up being a lot of accusation and innuendo on things that were never proved and over which Leavitt was paid a big ass settlement since he was terminated over that crap.
