So it seems RG has been able to raise ~$1.83M in the past 6 weeks, which I assume included any addt'l $ during football season ticket renewal period. Was hoping it would be higher and I know these things aren't linear, but at that rate it will take quite awhile to get us to the 105M goal. Hope the big fish kick in some more big $$$$.

The $105M goal was not starting from scratch at the time it was announced. It's just the total overall goal for the current running fundraising campaign. I believe that I saw recently that they were in the low 70M area with donations and endowments both included (as they are in the 105).

This.

We're a lot further along than that $1.83MM.

Yes, and per RG's most recent email on 3/21:

Sustainable Excellence Initiative Update
The “Drive For 105,” our public campaign to raise $105 million toward our Sustainable Excellence Initiative (SEI) keeps rolling along. Through this past Tuesday, we have secured $75,272,447 overall, with $57,413,699 earmarked for capital improvements and $17,858,748 for our intercollegiate athletics endowment.

That endowment, as it stands, would fund over $350,000 per year (assuming a paltry 2% annual return). It would be nice if we could figure out a way to charge the AD in-state tuition for those scholarships. Doing so would just about double the number of athletes covered by that endowment.

Agree. Charge in-state tuition, assign the tuition discrepancy to a marketing cost center. Or, change the perspective, charge the university marketing department the out-of-state tuition discrepancy for the CU Boulder promotional ads that appear on P12 televised games.

Or, at the minimum, charge the university marketing budget the prevailing rate for those ads. Then, in 4-7 years when they start complaining about the unexpected expense of the Rose Bowl commercials, exchange it for in-state tuition.

Gulbrand, who was hired at the defunct CU Foundation in 2011 when former athletic director Mike Bohn was still at CU, said he is not aware of any formal plan that was put in place for fundraising in the Pac-12 when the switch was made. While there was never a three-year or five-year plan to execute, CU did conduct an outreach tour after the move to Pac-12. Gulbrand said it produced some new donors with stops in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix in 2011.
"It was a great entree into what we can do, but you have to do it repeatedly," he said. "You can't just go one time and expect everybody to pull out their checkbook. That just doesn't happen, unless you're doing a telethon or something like that. If you want to really, really move the needle in a dramatic fashion, you better be willing to engage somebody at a different level and talk to them about making a philanthropic investment into your university or into your school or college."
"The answer is, should there have been a plan? Probably. Was there a plan? Don't know," George said. "If there has been, I didn't see it."
"We created our own plan," Gulbrand said.

Yikes. Thanks Bohn

I defended Bohn at times, but this, presuming it's true, is a truly stunning display of ineptitude.

This. I think Bohn gets blamed for a lot of stuff that was out of his control. This isn't one of them. How do you not have a plan? You just think, "we're changing conferences and the money is going to start flowing in"?

It also makes you wonder what kind of effort was put into fund raising before we made the move. It's kind of infuriating when you stop to think about it.

Actually, you know what's even MORE maddening? Remember Brad's little scuffle with DiStefano?

To summarize:
Brad: Hey, Phil, when are we going to get that IPF built?
Phil: You got $50 Million?

I'm beginning to think that was the long and short of our fundraising efforts at the time.

Something doesn't add up here. Bohn was allegedly so micromanaged that he was not even allowed to fire Hawk when it was clear to most he was a failure, but the same CU administration that cut his balls off in that decision, just rubber stamped a move to the Pac 12 without even asking Bohn what his plan was our what the financial implications of such a move would be? I don't buy it.

It is sad how shortsighted this admin was for years. I'm currently in the process of trying to block that out for all RG has done and trying to accomplish of his vision.

It is amazing and sad that the admin. essentially took a decade+ off from fully supporting the football program. Hard to climb out of that kind of pit quickly.

Sums up the attitude prior to RG coming in. Why is that little man still employed?

I think the term "micromaged" is incorrect. More like leadership via convenience. I think the rubber stamp for the move was the easy road. Plan or not, they knew where their alumni were located.

So it sounds like brad finally came up with $50 million. What a baller.

Maybe micromanaged wasn't a great choice of words, but it sure seems like they didn't trust Bohn to make big decisions and combined with their insistence on finding a new AD that would run the department like a business, it doesn't make sense to me that Benson and DiStephano completely ignored the financial implications of a move like this.

I just think that Rick George is one of those guys who has a vision and a plan to go after it without getting caught up in a bunch of "risk analysis" stuff. Like, "We could break ground on our facilities, but what if the donations don't come through?" kind of stuff. What he is doing is extraordinary, so, maybe, ripping Bohn for being "ordinary" isn't probably all that fair.
