Askia works out for the Nuggets

Maybe they will pick him up for their summer league, but unfortunately I don't see him getting drafted......but you never know

The Nuggets have a history of taking in local college kids and having them work out over the Summer. I seem to remember them doing the same thing with that big goof from CSU last year. Kind of a cool thing to do, if you ask me. It doesn't mean they'll draft any of them, but it never hurts to let them come in and work out.

This quote from the article isn't sitting well with me, "Especially at the school I played for, I didn't get to show my defensive ability too much."

Here I thought he played for a coach that preached defense?!?

CU plays a team defense scheme that isn't designed to gamble and go for a lot of steals. Ski's probably saying that if he'd been in a system that allowed him to take more chances then we would have seen some stat stuffing with steals.

I actually like Ski, but come on man. When one of CU's biggest fans has to use words like probably to interpret his comments, than how in the world is a casual fan supposed to not interpret those comments as anything but negative.

A couple of things. First, if Ski is going to make that kind of statement, that he was limited in his defensive abilities because of the system. Then he better damn well prove he is one of the great defenders of all time in his pro career. There are no excuses now (got a feeling he will find some). Second, he isn't a leader. We needed leadership last year, echoed by what Tad said all season, and Ski didn't step up to a leadership role. So it makes sense that he makes excuses for his shortcomings rather that own them.
Right now, Ski is in his perfect environment, It's all about him and him alone. Good luck to him.

Ski's a different dude. Sometimes it's a good different. Sometimes it's not. I don't pretend to understand him. I always respected his work ethic, how he played from the heart & balls, and some of the great moments he delivered for the program and its fans. I choose to focus on that.

Hierarchy of leadership on the BBall court IMO:

Head Coach
Assistant Coaches
Point Guard
Big man
Shooting guard

Maybe Ski's issue what that he wanted to play the point last year but he is a true #2 guard. Not a position I believe you should expect much leadership from.

This. I don't think he'll make it at the NBA level, but if he does it is because he is a "different dude" with "heart & balls." He needs that chip on his shoulder, imaginary or not.

I think someone's going to give JJ Avila a long look. I really like his game (even for a Ram) and he's a really good kid. Transferred from the Naval Academy.

He's a 'tweener who can't jump, though. Nice high release on the shot, though. Maybe have a sort career like Eduardo Najera. Same size and games.

ETA: Wow, he actually played for 12 years in the league. Never knew that.

Ski didn't get in tonight, didn't realize he's also behind Scotty Wilbekin from Florida to add to McConnell and Pierre Jackson.

I don't see him playing for the Nuggets any time soon as they have a good backcourt already with Jameer and a few other guys manning the point position. Although there might be a slim chance since the Nuggets traded away Ty which I think is ridiculous because he's a very good PG. Askia has the talent to a contributor in the NBA though, just have to keep working hard and maybe get into the D-league to improve some more before being taken as an undrafted player.

Excellent post. See 3 prior to yours.

The Jazz view Alec Burks as the "unquestioned starter" at shooting guard, according to the Salt Lake Tribune's Tony Jones.
