Wow.... Signs are all over the wall about this staffs recruiting abilities . He [Reinkensmeyer] may not be a game changer but keeping CO kids home needs to start happening. The staff has improved but still to many misses , IMO.

How has the staff "improved" keeping local kids at home? This year may be the worst in decades at keeping local kids at home. I see 1 maybe 2 Colorado kids (Roberts & Pannunzio) staying home for college this year and none of them are in the top 5.

Are you judging the staff on the number of CO kids they've gotten or the quality of their recruits? (I'm not saying there isn't reasonable criticism for the quality) Because to me, this is a kid on the level we should be able to recruit anywhere, so it really only matters if we end up with quality OT commit(s) at the end of the day, not whether he's from this state. For all you know we could end up with 2 better OL commits and you're bashing the staff about missing on a 2* in-state recruit who they offered late and may very well not be high on our board. UVa has been on him for a long while, can't complain about the coaching staff being patient in this class.

Why are you ignoring last years class?

2012 Class was the worst. Loaded with 4 stars and didn't sign any of the top 6.

Broke this off from Reinkensmeyer's profile thread. Some comments were inappropriate there. There's a chance that this whole thing ends up on the Island, but I'm hoping for a decent discussion and to avoid that.

Embree completely neglected the CO kids and high school coaches around the area hated him. It's everything MM and staff can do just to rebuild those relationships.
He didn't ignore them, he just pissed them off with his "strategy"

You mean the 4 CO recruits we got last year, of which, only 1 could have gone to another P5 school? Yeah, I didn't forget about last year. It's just this year is much worse than last year. Hence, why I was wondering why someone thought we are improving on in state recruiting.

And I mean quality and quantity. The last several years, most CO kids that could go elsewhere in a P5 school, have done so.

I have been a critic of in-state recruiting. The 2012 class made me downright angry and as I mentioned in barzil losing guys like Jones and Risner doesn't make me happy.

With that in mind I am also not a fan of recruiting Colorado kids just because they are Colorado kids. In most years Colorado has maybe 4-6 kids who would be in the top 150-200 in a state like California, Texas, or Florida. it's not unusual that the 10th kid in Colorado is an FBS level player.

We have to get our share of the top Colorado talent but are never going to be able to get all of the top kids just like some of the top kids from a lot of states go elsewhere. We can't be taking MWC level kids just to have CO kids on the roster.

Looking at the top 5...

-Lee was ALWAYS NU bound. We never had a shot
-We never offered Avery Anderson
-Lynott doesn't need much explanation
-Middlemiss committed in April, hated the recruiting process, and is a big CU fan
-Umu had academic concerns and didn't take off until after his senior season

I'm not sure what to tell you. Colorado isn't a deep state for talent, and the 2016 is weak to.

Went back to the Prospect Profile Index for last year

http://www.allbuffs.com/showthread.php/73242-2015-Recruit-Profile-Index

Lee and Anderson are the only CO kids I found that went to significant other programs instead of CO. Lee's dad is Red to the core, he was never a question, Anderson and Lee were buddies from way back and Anderson had been ingrained as well.

Umu was committed to CSU and when he developed in his senior year our staff flipped him.

This year doesn't look great with probably losing Stoll, Domman, and Kemp. Lynch to UCLA I don't get am not worried about. Kemp wants out of Boulder but may still stay. Domman is another kid who had a lot of contact with Lee's father and heard nothing but negative about CU. Stoll I wanted badly and the coaches gave a full effort. How he ends up in Nebraska I can't figure even if he wanted out of Colorado.

Trying to make sense out of decisions made by 17-18 year old kids will drive you crazy.

In general our recruiting needs to be better but taking a bunch of Colorado kids who aren't PAC12 level prospects won't help.

Look, I can't speak for every prospect or every high school program across the state, but I coach at a pretty successful 5a program on the front range and I saw Mike MacIntyre at more of our games this year (whether he was there to scout one of our players or one from our opponent) than Embree or anyone from CU ever came to during their tenure.

It's not just coming to games and representing the local college programs when there are legit recruits; it's making CU visible to the players and engaging the HS coaching staffs. Developing relationships with the head coaches, so when they inevitably talk to players about college, they have some good things to say about CU, instead of being apathetic.

So recruiting the top 5 in Colorado only counts part of the time, but no question we'd still bitch about it regardless. Solid.

Good stuff there MtnBuff, but you're overestimating Lee Sr.'s impact on Domann's decision IMO

Might be but he can't have helped but to at least hear it. Lee Sr. was around that program a lot early in Domann's career wearing his red and talking the fuskers line.

You and others have documented other factors in Domman's decision including having family ties to other schools and other regions and his interest in going out of state but I still believe that minus the impact of Lee Sr. I think he would at least be more willing to listen to what M2 has to sell.

That is one of the issues faced in recruiting Colorado dealing with the fact that most people here have ties to someplace else.

Hopefully we can reverse that and get Ancrum who in my mind would make up for any of the guys we might lose in state this year.

Negative freaking b!tche$. This staff is trying to get every one of the top guys and pushing on all of them. Is it their fault they can't sell every kid that wants to go to another school that has been more successful the past decade or offers them a chance to get away from home and grow up on their own. Staying in-state isn't for everyone but we hear this **** yearly. This staff has been the best at getting around the state and showing they care to get the best players they can from here.

The best since when? Ever?

I never thought I'd long for the days when Hawk was pulling in the top CO recruits.

1984, arguably the keystone year for Mac's turn it around with Colorado kids, Colorado's #1 recruit (also the #1 in the country) did not commit to CU. Mac still did ok.

Hey ratatouille, don't you realize that last year MacIntyre got 4 of the Top 10? That is like it was for Hawkins. And how many local Colorado Hawkins commits AAs?
