Little Brother already upset about the AFA scheduling

Ramnation fuming already. Of course they disguise it as joking but they are upset we upgraded our 2022 year by adding AFA and not playing them.

We really need to beat them every time for the remainder of this contract so they can't claim jack.

Agreed.....although even if we beat them the next 5 years they will find some moral victory factor and try to justify how they are big time and we should be a Division 2 team.

To get it out of the way, I am not mad at this. I think it's pretty obvious that the RMS is being phased out regardless of my personal feelings about it (I would prefer it to continue, as I've stated on here) and CSU needs to step up and not rely on solely on the CU game each year. That said - c'mon guys. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Sure, some CSU fans are butt hurt. The rest view this as CU just not wanting to play CSU anymore, which some at least partially view as running away (rightly, wrongly, or somewhere in between). Even if you disagree you have to be able to understand it.

When it was first announced that the series was in doubt much of this board seemed happy - now CU could schedule more beneficial games (more money, against better/more visible/meaningful teams, whatever) - and if a team like CSU wanted to schedule a team like CU it was going to take a 2 for 1. Then CU goes out and schedules a home and home with Air Force, when it was recently said that teams like CU don't schedule home and homes with teams like CSU or Air Force and that CSU should be happy with/grateful for a 2 for 1 since they would have huge troubles getting home and homes with other P5 schools. You can't have it both ways.

CU is allowed to decide they don't want to play CSU, but you can't do things like this and at the same time claim CSU is harmful to CU or CU is above a home and home.

I dont consider CSU and AF to be equals. AF is a national program.

Well AFA wants to play these games on campus and they have a 50,000 seat stadium that can support that which CSU does not.

Second, this is a service academy which is a little different of a situation than a regular mountain west team. A lot of power five programs schedule one and ones with service academy's.

AFA and CSU are two different animals entirely.

AFA is a service academy, it gets national attention and prestige. CSU, well CSU does well enough in the MWC to go to lower end bowl games when they are doing well.

In terms of scheduling AFA has a lot more options, to restart a series with them a 2 and 2 is acceptable. To maintain a series with CSU which doesn't do much for CU it is not.

Apples and oranges.

A google search reveals Falcon Stadium has a capacity of 46,692. CSU's new stadium, opening for the 2017 season, will have a capacity of 41K. That's not a big difference and I would assume CSU would prefer to move the game to campuses at that point. I will concede that service academies are a little different from a general perspective but there is no difference in beating one or the other when it comes to possible playoff ranking. It may not appear this way but I'm not trying to badger CU (and it's fans) from being happy with this - hell, just some additional variety in your schedule is probably welcomed - but it's the CSU hate/negative talk that chaps me a bit (CU is too good for CSU but not for Air Force).

CU's out of state fans will travel for AFA, both home and away.

There is a huge pent up demand and curiosity about CU -v- AFA. It's as rare as a comet.

The novelty has completely worn off of the CU-CSU at sports authority tilt.

The CU/CSU series needs to go dormant a few decades and then get played home and home on campus to get CU's fan base excited about playing the Rams again. The first time CU played at Mile High was fun. It's not so special any more.

There is absolutely nothing to dislike about CU and AFA finding each other for this limited engagement.

The CUAD is delivering what the CU fans want. It's that simple.

Well if you are going by seating capacity, CSU is only 36,000. Air Force fit over 56,000 against Notre Dame in 2002 so it can hold a lot actually (more than CU).

All of that makes sense and is cool.

AF being a service academy has more national TV appeal and that in turn can = quite a few more bucks than seating capacity in a stadium. This is part of our excitement and being fine with a 1 and 1. I don't hate CSU, I just didn't care for the RMS at SAFAMHS. There is also how our season tickets get handled for that game (better this year, thanks RG), but I can choose to go down to the springs that year and pick my seats as well.

AFA has scheduled home and homes with ND and other national teams. Sorry, CSU just isn't on par. CSU had a nice little run under Sonny, and while CU has been playing some of the most dog**** FB in their history, CSU has managed to keep the series more or less even while DII Danny was making sure his son played QB, and Embree, God bless him, was getting lapped in the first quarter by, well, everybody. Historically, CSU isn't even on the map, and I expect things will return to normal in the near future. Do I need to define normal?

Very well said

As I posted in the other thread, I don't believe there is an objection by CU to scheduling a home-and-home with CSU in 2 future years similar to the AFA deal. (Normal payouts and normal ticket allotments.) A neutral site game every year does not make sense for CU scheduling and neither does playing CSU every single season.

CU playing games at the AFA is a different deal than playing in Ft. Collins. P5 teams other than CU have shown a willingness to go to the Springs.

CSU has had Minnesota and Cal visit Ft. Collins in recent memory. Both of those schools have also played at the AFA. In addition other schools that have come into Falcon Stadium, some for multiple appearances include Northwestern, Washington, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. These schools have their choice about where to play. Certainly playing the AFA has some benefits that don't come from playing in Ft. Collins.

FWIW - I'm looking forward to CU playing at CSU's new stadium at some point in the future. I'd love it if the RMS was moved to FoCo in 2017 or 2018, whichever year is CSU's designated home game.

if csu fans are unhappy, then i have to believe it is a good move for CU, whatever the move is.

i will travel to the AFA game from out of state by the way. i wouldn't travel to a game in ftco whether to watch the sheep play CU in a new stadium or in the old concrete thing either.

One thing to keep in mind here is that CU did not replace CSU with AFA in their schedule. They added AFA in a year they also play CSU and they have to make the other game happen at AFA. This was not a replacement. They have been trying to schedule them for years.

both AFA games are on my radar to fly out for. i haven't come out for a CSU game since the mid 2000's

AFA was invited to join the BigXII. CSU was not. This alone should tell you about outside perception of the two programs.

Texas A&M and TCU are the games replacing the CSU series, not AFA. The schedule upgrade happened in the spring when we scheduled those games. The AFA is separate. That is why anyone saying that we took our ball and ran home is an 1d1ot.
