Why did Embree's team fail vs Hawaii in 2011

1st game for new staff, with no coordinator experience, but had at least some talent on a senior heavy roster. Was it all poor coaching the players couldn't overcome?

Forgot to tell the defense to prevent the QB from running straight up the middle.

HONOLULU -- Bryant Moniz ran for a career-best 121 yards and three touchdowns and Hawaii beat Colorado 34-17 in the season opener for both teams Saturday night, extending the Buffaloes' road woes and spoiling the coaching debut of Jon Embree.
//
Moniz scrambled for a 22-yard gain in the first quarter and two plays later broke a 34-yard run, leading to a field goal. He then broke a career-long 57-yard TD run in the second quarter to put Hawaii up 10-0. Moniz faked a handoff, sidestepped a defender and sprinted untouched the rest of the way. With 24 seconds left in the half, Moniz kept it on an option and scored on the 14-yarder.
// (Oh yeah, I forgot about our ****ty Oline play.)
Hansen was 16 of 30 for 223 yards and two touchdowns. But he was sacked seven times and threw a late interception, ending any chance of a comeback.

Well, that wasn't Embree's team. That was my team, the University of Colorado Golden Buffaloes. Was is your team? I know a lot of fans like to use words like "we" and "us" when they talk about the CU football team, but when it comes to the 2011 and 2012 teams they call them "Embree's" team. For better or for worse, fans of a school are fans of a school regardless of the coach involved.

CU has been horrible for over 10 years, every year, including last year. I've noticed a lot of positive energy towards the CU football team on this site since the end of last season. Why throw out such negative vibes 25 hours before the season kickoff?

Seeing a loser coach in McMackin go bat**** crazy ranting and raving to his squad after we cut their lead to 7 really drove home what everyone else thought/thinks of CU football.

Criticizing whose team he called it and whether he used what you find acceptable might be the most ridiculous nitpicking to find an argument I've seen in some time, you'd have a real future as a feminist. He can call it whatever the **** he wants and he's no less of a CU fan than you.

Why?

Embree was a terrible coach who over his tenure showed time and time again that he was unable to make in game adjustments.

But you knew that already.

Or pre-game adjustments, or even post game adjustments. But you do have to give credit where it is due, the guy could cuss with the best of them.

Lack of focus, discipline and most importantly good technical coaching. The players didn't know what they were supposed to do.

He spent an entire offseason implementing a super secret offense to scrap it after 2 drives against CSU. That kind of coach was coaching the team at Hawaii. That is really all there is to it.

That warriors team also went 10-4 the year before. This CU team is better and Hawaii is worse than that team.

Agreed, they were a veteran team with a good leader at QB, at home in the middle of a nice run for them.

This is not the same Hawaii team, but we still suck on the road until proven otherwise.

Sensitive much?

We had a long talk in another thread about "Hawkins'" team, and what that meant who those issues were, the talent he had. Rightly or wrongly coaches define era's for teams and fans will often refer to their team by who coached it in that era. We talk about Skippy, Barney, and Mac's teams as well.

we can't forget about the lack of drinking water...and those damn desks/chairs
