Mike Bohn at the OC Alumni event - long

I went to the OC alumni event yesterday in Dana Point overlooking the harbor. It was my first event since moving to California and a lot of fun. There were a fair number of alums there and even a few former football players who now live in the area. They started it off with free mai tai's before lunch and during that time my wife and I talked to Mike Bohn for quite a while. He was very cool, and it seemed he actually listened to all we said. He seemed to be very impressed with my wife's knowledge of the schedule for CU and UGA (of which she is a grad) when we weere discussing how we picked what games to go to. Anyway we were trying to remember one of the games in 2008, just talking about how glad we are to play games worth traveling to and that are actually televised. When i thought of the game that was n. carolina, Bohn said we were not going to do that series, we are now going to play WVU. Lots of other good stuff, and he got us pumped up when he was speaking to everyone else about what all they are doing and working on.
Last thing to mention is Kent Zimmerman of the CU alumni association. This guy is a workhorse and a ball of fire. He does a great job and in my many times of meeting him, makes me proud to be a CU alum. Also, He threw out an interesting couple of tidbits. Next years minimum GPA to get in 3.6, out of state students, over 40%. Both of those, i found to be pretty nuts.

Did Bohn mention why the UNC series has been canceled? I was looking forward to visiting Chapel Hill.

Did he mention when the AD would make this public?

I think it has something to do with the ACC expansion that took place last year or whenever. Some of thier schedules are out of wack.

That being said, I ****ing love the scheduling that CU does. UNC will be pretty good in a few years, but they drop us so we pick up one of the best teams in that conference year after year. Someone in the scheduling office has big brass ones, and I like it.

FINALLY!!!

I have been waiting for a CU/WVU series since I moved here. I am a WVU fan and graduate, but I also have a degree from CU. Mountaineer fans travel well so expect a good crowd of Blue and Gold for this game n Boulder.

Can't wait!

Cheers!

Well, as a parent of a kid who wants to go there and will be applying this year for the fall of '08 and has a 3.5 GPA, I think that is a bunch of bull ****. University of "Colorado" my ass. They had just as soon screw the in state kids because the out of state kids pay a **** load of money. Also, the implications to athletics, if the academic standard keep going up like this, is doom. We will be the Stanford of the Big XII. :sad2: My kid may end up having to got to csu.

You can thank the state legislature and governor Ownens for CU needing to have as many out-of-staters as they do.

A 3.5 should be good enough for your kid to get into something other than that junior college.

There are other things augment a 3.5 GPA, that has been the requirment for a while especially for out of state. They do not make it easy to get in for us out of staters. Then again they let some really dumb people in. I wouldnt worry about your student, instaters have a better chance of getting in, especially now adays when the university has realized how many out of staters there actually are. And a 3.5 GPA is on teh edge anyways more cances than not they will get in.

He just needs to get his ACT score up. He was 26/27 on everything except the grammar part! He got an 18 on that which knocked him down to a 23. And he has excellent grammar! Go figure.

well good luck to him, from what you said which isnt a lot he seems like a smart young boy. Best of luck, hopefully we'll see him on campus sometime.

In all honesty, a 3.5 today is a lot different than it was when most of us were in school. Back then, the highest you could get is a 4.0. Now you see kids with AP credits with 4.6 GPAs. :wow: Some increases in admission standards are probably appropriate.

I had a 3.3 with a 28 on the ACT and got in a little too easily I thought. Those are numbers that should be for about the 25th percentile, but I was much higher.

I have no idea how to translate SAT to ACT to new SAT, my problem always was that I never gave a **** about homework or showing up to class.

Yeah, I stopped doing homework after my sophomore year of high school. That first semester of college was a little bit of a shock-took a couple of D's on tests to realize that I had to get my ass in gear.

I lived in Kittredge and had an econ class in Hale at 8 am my first semester. My roommate was also in the class. You would think this would help in getting to that class, but inevitably one of us would shut off the alarm and we would just go back to sleep. I think we made it to the class about 7 times all semester. I didn't have another 8 am class until my senior year.

Yeah I was in will-vill so I feel your pain. I had one other 8 am class, but that was history of the US until 1865 and honestly if you cant pass that without ever doing the reading maybe you should go back to highschool.

I had a 1.7 with no ACT.

But I also had to transfer in from a CC with a 3.95 after 2.5 years.
