Looking Ahead To csu.... Will Higgins Play ?

Not only did he not play today due to a sprained ankle but his backup Jordon Vaden got hurt today.
Also looks like they may have a QB controversy brewing.

Would be helpful if he didn't. Ankle sprains are hard to predict and can be tough to manage. Cu will likely practice as if Higgins will be full go. Personally, I bet we see him saturday.

He'll start. Now if it's an issue he'll be out by the 3rd series. He's too important to not start.

The matchup is our offense vs their defense. I think our defense will be able to handle them, especially if they don't have anyone to stretch the field like Higgins.

We went up against a very good qb/wr combo today and did well. CSU front 7 worries me.

If history is any indication, we have to be prepared to get their absolute best. Even if they've had lackluster performances in other games, I expect them to get up for this game as they always do. We'll need to match their intensity/desire to have success.

Bingo. CU can not afford to be out motivated for any game this season. If they want to accomplish their goal of a bowl game, every Saturday should be their super bowl.

wonder if csu comes out next Saturday a bit lackluster ? their loss today was gut wrenching ...
the type of loss that can end up beating you twice if you aren't mentally prepared-

Cu cb's still concern me. Higgins isn't the only offensive player they have that can make plays.

Two observations about little brother just based on what I've read. First, its clear they don't have a quarterback-Stevens was bad (even Gary Miller said so). Key played well (apparently).....but what does that constitute? not throwing the ball to the guys in the wrong uniforms? Whether or not Higgins plays isn't a huge deal-either way, he most likely won't be 100%. If I'm JL, I don't worry as much about my secondary (Frohnapfel is one of the better quarterbacks we'll see all year, and he will get drafted) and stack the box and focus on their run game. The more glaring thing with them is the mistakes-They've averaged about 70 yards in penalties in two games.....thats high. Moreover, look at the turnovers-9 in two games. Five fumbles (they lost four) against Savannah State. Two more lost fumbles today. Stevens threw two picks today on top of that. This comes down to winning the battle up front and taking advantage of their penalties.

If motivation for the game next week is an issue I will be absolutely shocked
I have a feeling we see a very motivated CU team next week. Something I haven't been able to say in a while. You can tell Mac is still pissed about last year.

Thanks for the observations

You said the exact same thing in the CSU pregame thread last year.

Well, it wasn't like they lost due to lack of motivation last year. They lost because they couldn't capitalize on opportunities... or tackle.

Can we cover Hansley, Higgins, Cartwright, Walker etc? Our secondary was weak and we've had a rotating door at safety trying to find the right guy opposite Tedric.

If we find ourselves down late will we be able to throw the ball down field to win the game? What if csu has success stopping the run?

Could not disagree more. They got physically dominated and showed no fight in the second half. Looked like lack of fire (motivation) to me.

In Tini's favor, yesterday was arguably the best exhibit of a motivated team we've seen for many years.

I don't know how you can say that a team wasn't motivated when it came out of the gates fast and dominated the game for the first quarter and a half. That's not a motivation problem. That's a knowing how to deal with success issue. It's a knowing how to finish issue (plays, drives, halves, games) in order to win.

About the same concerns I have.

Hope lindgren doesn't give up on running the ball if they struggle early. Rams got beat up a little bit yesterday.
