Montez vs Apsay vs Liufau

Honest discussion here.

Liufau will be a senior and isn't all that bad.
Sure he took a step back this year due to some bad play calling and a hurt shoulder, but he's big
guy who has proven he can run and has a different dimension to his game.

Apsay has shown little in the few minutes he's received. I like hte way hte ball comes out of his hand when
he throws it, but I honestly don't know if he's ready to start next season.

Montez....the redshirt....he's a mystery.

Who should take over the reigns next year and why?

Impossible to answer 9 months prior to next season. I just hope there is a true 3-way QB competition, and whichever one shows the consistent throwing accuracy, mental grasp of the playbook and ability to improvise with his legs gets the job.

Open it up and truly pick the guy that gives you the chance to win. No favoritism / loyalty... I am not a two QB system guy, but if you have to script some plays like that, then do it.

Unless the D, ST and OL make big strides, we will need a difference maker at QB...and as usual the Buffs are looking at an unproven guy (Montez) to be that player.

Bring in some new blood too, if possible. Grad transfer or JUCO (assuming there are any with real talent out there). We can sell them on an experienced O line, capable receivers, TEs and RBs, and a fair shot to win the starting job. It should be pretty clear there is no guaranteed starter next year.

Sefo will likely leave as the leading passer of all time....yet he has NEVER been a clutch performer. We keep harping on the OL, DL, etal....but the reality is that Sefo has NEVER been instrumental in a win....yet has committed horrendous turnovers that have either destroyed momentum or an opportunithy to win. Bottom line is that he has won exactly two Pac 12 games....many games we were either ahead or close and he was not able to close the deal. He is what he is....the pick right before the half pretty much sums up his career at CU...instead of scoring and closing the gap giving the team momentum, he makes an unforced awful throw for a pick...right after the defense came off the field after a long drive..... He may be the best option....but we know he has not nor probably never will be able to close the deal. He was not even very good against Nicholls.... Oklahoma State pulled teh redshirt of thier frosh QB at the end of the year last year....and now OK state is undefeated with that QB....gotta know what we have...this season is done....if we would have redshirted Sefo that would have meant exactly what? That we have a turnover machine for another year? if the FROSH is as good as they say....pull the shirt and FIND OUT NOW..... MM may not survive to see if in fact he is...and you can ONLY make that call with REAL games.

I thought Weifles was supposed to be an immediate impact player. Juncos can be a dicey proposition I suppose. I would assume that there is an underlying problem if they are Jucos in the first place. CU got lucky with Carrol and the other d-lineman.

Good ones are hard to find for sure. I doubt there's anyone out there. I just hope we're looking/recruiting those that are worthy. MikeMac did find Fales at his last stop...

The radio broadcast gave end of game love to Montez. Paraphrasing: Apsay has eligibility left as well, but there's real excitement around Montez. "That kid has a cannon." It came across as, "yeah, Apsay's not exactly lighting it up out there right now, he'll be around for a few more, but wait until all of you get to see what we've seen."

its the same everytime " the guy we havent seen is somehow head and shoulders above what we have seen"

If he is head and shoulders above everybody else, why in the world would you not play him? Sefo played as a frosh....

I know, Zimmer and Johnson have seen so little football. They're just talking out their as$e$ again. Disgusting, really.

Who pays them again?

How is it a paycheck conspiracy when they insinuate that Montez is going to jump Apsay on the depth chart? Their broadcasts are surprising critical of the quality of football being played. Further more, how has passing on this tidbit bee'd up your life hacky bonnet?

Who knows really...but from what I've seen on youtube videos, Montez is physically more imposing than Apsay, and Liufau is actually a big guy.
But Montez' arm is above what Liufau's is. We just haven't seen him make game throws, etc. He can also run, theoretically.

I like Apsay's release, but he's physically smaller. I don't know if he can be durable enough with our crappy O line....that was rude, our emerging O line. :)

lol, touchy, touchy. Just pointing out that being under the employ of CU, directly or indirectly depending on how you look at it, might, just might, cause them to have an always rosy outlook for the future. Ticket sales and all that, if I am wrong, fine, but get me some tape where those two say anything negative about the future....

I was thinking the same....
Good man, I'll give you a mulli:

It certainly seems like it's pretty unanimous in that everyone who saw some fall practices is a big fan of Montez. I hope he's ready and the real deal.

Well if Montez is running scout team against our #1 defense he probably is lighting it up.

I have no idea how good Montez is or will be. I know that when he was recruited it was as a guy to develop, not as a guy who was ready to go. If he has progressed sufficiently to compete next year for the starting job great, if not I don't want to see him thrown in for the "see what he's got" fantasy.

Sefo was supposed to be a developmental guy as well. When Wood failed so bad and Sefo was thrown in before he was ready he formed some bad habits that we are still paying for. I don't want to see another QB screwed up because the fans aren't willing to wait until he is ready to play.

I do think that that development should include some planned playing time which is something we haven't seen with this years back-ups. The only way to adjust to the speed of real game action is to see it in person.

Apsay to me will max out as a quality depth guy, I haven't seen anything from him in his limited time that says future starter to me. That is fine though because teams need a back up who can give you a chance to not lose games.

I know that nobody wants to hear the patience word but that again is what we are facing.

Where do some people get the idea that Sefo has been anything other than a bad QB?
