CU Regent election can change the future of CU athletics

This is somewhat off the “All Buffs” topic, but nonetheless I hope you’ll agree that it’s important. I am running for CU Regent against someone who thinks that bashing CU sports will earn him votes (see below). I won the most votes at this weekend’s Assembly, but my opponent got enough votes to force a primary.

I was in the band at the 1990 Orange Bowl, and there in the stands for the Miracle in Michigan. I’m a Buff through and through. But that’s not the point. I am not running for Regent as pro-athletics or anti-athletics. I believe that CU has to be world class at EVERYTHING it does. The problems of affordability and accessibility of college, which I am running to fix, have very little to do with CU athletics. Football is not the reason that tuition at CU has tripled and levels of financial aid have nothing to do with Folsom Field renovation.

So, if you get a Democratic Party primary ballot in CD-1 in June, I’d love to earn your vote. If you know people who have a vote, spread the word. If you are able to contribute a few bucks our way, whatever it is ($50, $100 or max $400), we need the resources to put up a good fight in the primary. I very much appreciate the help. Go BUFFS!

This should be in "CU news and Olympic Sports" forum.

Not that I don't fully support the OP, just that this particular forum should be kept to news and discussion of CU football. Well, at least until Orr comes along and ruins it.

Is that some sort of esoteric "Earth Girls are Easy" reference? UBL?

This is very much about football, since the OP's opponent is using the long-overdue football facilities overhaul & expansion in his campaign for regent. And having candidates for the Board of Regents who don't understand how the football program funds itself is scary.

Unluckily for Lucky I'm not a Democrat nor do I reside in District 1. But good luck. I'm happy he supports CU athletics.

Leave home, kid.

Were you a Democrat when you were a student? Funny how some of us shift from campus democrats to staunch Republicans over time.

Kroll is either alarmingly misinformed or easily lies to voters to heighten a misguided sentiment. Either way, **** that piece of ****.

Who is fhe republican candidate for regent in your district and are you 100% sure that the GOP candidates fully back CU athletics?

Party affiliation doesn't mean much when it comes to local or state elections, imho. National party platform is a different animal. I don't care at all if a Regent has a (D) or (R) after his or her name. I care about that candidate's vision for CU and whether it aligns with my own.

@DBT - do YOU put party ahead of a pro CUAD litmus test? If so, why?

I believe DBT was referring to the OP running against the other guy in the dem primary. Reps can't vote in a dem primary.

1st district is so overwhelmingly Democrat that in races like this the primary is normally the deciding election.

Most voters don't bother to research the candidates for the "minor" offices and just vote along party lines.

Not necessarily. But, like I said, he's in District 1, Denver. I'm not. So I don't really have an option. I doubt many of us on this board are in District 1. But to answer your question, I'd probably have to go with education over athletics if push came to shove. That said, if a guy had an education program I believe in but wanted to stick it to the AD, I'd have to think pretty hard about supporting him/her. In the case of Vidmar's opponent, I question how smart the guy is if he thinks there is any direct correlation between school funding and AD funding. I mean, generally speaking. Obviously, he must think there are a lot of voters out there who think spending money on athletics is a waste. That is probably a bigger concern.

As a reformed Democrat, I can assure you that bashing the football program is like throwing red meat to the "jocks suck" liberal crowd.

I don't live in the district, else I would consider registering just to vote against this Kroll ****er.

As a proud Democrat, I agree, this guy is a dipf***
