Good stuff, but don't be like this idiot:

The random stranger walked up to Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Sefo Liufauduring a pleasant night out in Boulder. He didn't want an autograph. He didn't want to offer up a cold beverage. He did, however, have a message.

“The person said I was the reason we lost all those games and why we’re such terrible team," Liufau said. "I think [he and his friends] had a couple of drinks that night so they were a little outgoing.”

I like Sefo but his limitations at QB have been obvious. He has to make his reads quicker and has to improve throwing to his left (as mentioned). Not accomplishing that will lead to his making errors.

Hmmm and have a real oline. And a real running back. And a real qb coach. And most important a real play designer, game planner and in game management guy.

Other than that I blame it all on Sefo

I was not proud of CU fans after reading that ESPN article yesterday, and especially after reading the comments following the article. Every Colorado fan was disparaging Sefo against Washington and Utah fans that were rolling out well thought arguments to defend OUR, NOT THERE, QB. I wanted so badly to write a comment supporting Sefo, but, alas I do not have and will not have a facebook account.

Sefo is no world beater, and he doesn't need to be constantly reminded of that, but he is as fine a quarterback as we have had in the past decade. If we really aren't behind him then raise hell to put in Gehrke. If not, lets get behind our QB...at least in public forums like ESPN.

Yep. Fans of other teams don't look at CU after we have played them and say, "If not for that Sefo Liufau guy, the Buffs would be better than our guys." They see Sefo as a good D1 quarterback who doesn't get good protection, doesn't have much run game support, and doesn't have explosive playmakers to throw the ball to... but still performs at a pretty high level.

You got to be a real D**K to call out a 21 year old kid/student in public like that. Imagine the pressure that person feels day in and day out and he handles it with nothing but class. He has the best attitude and is the true definition of what a Buff is and should be! Imagine where we would be if Gehrke or Jordan Webb had been the starters over the last couple years.

Also, it drives me insane when Buff "fans" comment crap on social media, people that are wearing Buff gear in their profile pic but then comment something negative is a slap in the face to the college and football team. Imagine what that does if a recruit sees that "one of our own" is talking bad about the team, you think he is going to want to go there?

Ugh, sorry guys, just really pisses me off! Happy Friday!

Yes, a total scum move to get in a person's face like that whether in public or private.

Liafua is not a kid. At 21 he is not just a fully gown man, but given his leadership and experiences over the past three years he is clearly a mature adult compared to most at his age. The "kid" label is bull**** as it is just a weak excuse to justify poor performance. There are 21 year olds being drafted and leading NFL teams, not something a "kid" can do.

Jordan Webb? WTF? That is as credible of an arguement as telling us to imagine if Lyndon Johnson was the president.

Gehrke could not have done any worse. Do you realize that CU has won 3 conference games in 3 years with Liufau as the QB? Clearly you don't, or worse your using the moral victory arguement to claim losing by 14 is better than losing by more.

Happy Friday!

I understand where you are coming from saying he is not a kid, I guess I meant it more of a "in the real world" sense than the football sense, probably could have used different terminology, and I'm not trying to use it as an excuse for his football shortcomings , I don't think anyone is.

I do realize we have only won 3 conference games in 3 years. Do you see us winning more than 3 conference games over the last 3 years with Gehrke? I have to believe that coaches are going to put the players that give us the best opportunity to win on the field.

Not trying to start an argument.

One of the ironies to me is that I thought Sefo was playing maybe the best game of his career against USC when the injury happened.

I realize you were pretty heated when you wrote the post. It happens to fans, it is what makes us fans.

Gehrke is not the better QB, Liufau is the best QB on the roster and has been the whole time he has been at CU. The point is that it can barely get any worse, Gehrke or Apsay or Liufau or any walk-on QB that has rolled through Boulder the past 3 years would all put up the same results. None of them are good enough to get CU any more wins. Hopefully CU lands the current commit and he is groomed and developed properly and is the P5 quality QB that CU has lacked since Moschetti.

Gimme a break. Sefo 2x > than Moschetti

An argument could easily be made the Sefo at QB could have meant Ws against USC and Utah last year, which would have meant a bowl game. Yes, Sefo has been the QB of some "close losses" in the last couple years, but our QB play was noticeably worse with him out of the lineup.

I would argue we had quality P5 QBs in Tyler Hansen and Craig Ochs, but we mismanaged both situations badly.

Yeah. It's like rain on your wedding day.
Being a CU fan has been like rain on your wedding day, rain during your best golf round ever, rain at your picnic, rain after you wash your car. But after the rain, the flowers bloom!

As for Liufau skeptics, MacIntyre claims he isn't one. He said he wouldn't have recruited Webb without the go-ahead from Liufau, He compares Liufau to a first-round NFL draft pick who gets stuck as a young starter with a team that lacks talent around him.

100 times this. Think about all the obstacles. I see people saying that it's Sefo's fault we've won 3 conference games since we've gotten here. We could have had a Young John Elway under center and it wouldn't have mad much of a difference.

2013 he keeps his commitment through the coaching change. He's expected to Redshirt a year behind Connor Wood who was a former 4 star who transferred from Texas. We were all hyped for him. Wood falls on his face so spectacularly that Sefo has to take off his redshirt in week 6 to try and salvage the season. He has an excellent Sophomore season and gets injured as a Junior. He's expected to finally take his redshirt with Webb coming in and winning the job. Webb doesn't want to compete. He doesn't want to try and win behind this offensive line with these weapons at his disposal so he goes to Cal.

Now Sefo's timetable for return is accelerated. He's our only hope at QB and he's scrapping and crawling and fighting and bleeding for CU. I've never, in any sport, seen a player so dedicated and devoted to the success of the organization despite ALL the bad luck and poor supporting cast and STILL have the fans crap all over him. He's got heart and drive and talent and apart from PRich and Spruce he's never really had any supporting cast.

Now he's got a bunch of junior wideouts, some JUCO transfers, a possible TE threat for the first time since he's gotten here and he's healthy.

If I hire a 21 year old, I expect that he's going to not be fully developed on maturity and leadership. Kid? Probably not the right word. But just on the other side of being a kid.

Also, still an amateur athlete. Wouldn't say to treat with the kid gloves like we'd do for a high school athlete. But also not like how we'd criticize the QB of the Broncos. Somewhere in between that.

It's not necessarily an age thing, but rather an amateur vs. professional thing, IMO. The moment they go from amateur athlete in college to a professional athlete getting paid in the pros is when people should stop referring to these players as "kids", and when they rightfully open themselves up to some seriously harsh criticism if they are unable to produce. Collegiate athletes have a ton on their plates and 100% of their time is not devoted to athletics. This is not to say Sefo doesn't deserve criticism for his play, but Big Jim's attempt to downplay the douchebaggery of some drunk asshole talking **** to a college "kid" is off base. Hell, the drunk asshole was probably Big Jim.

I was thinking about Ochs, but he wasn't mismanaged by Barnett as much as he was misguided by his daddy. If we want to discuss the difference between being a kid and a man, then Ochs was always a kid at CU. He never developed the tough skin of a leader.

Hansen? Maybe, maybe not. I never saw him as a P5 guy, but certainly was better than the coaches son and was mismanaged horribly at CU. Just another reason I don't see Helfrich being a successful coach at Oregon over the long term because he doesn't have the internal strength to pull if off.
