CU-Ute "Rivalry" -- What should be the "Rumble in the Rockies" trophy?

Have enjoyed the insightful commentary. You all have Texas pegged, it's fun living in Big 12 err 10 err whatever country. I love you're perfect attitude to the forced rivalry with Utah. I feel nothing but respect for the Buffs, you all should have a chance to play Nebraska more often. Beating a hated rival can be very cleansing. I will never hate CU and respect the academic thing ... how can someone cheer against a fine institution? Well except for U of TX :)

Thanks for stopping in.

Regarding the manufactured "rivalry" between CU and Utah, I think they should at least do something to make it seem like more of a tradition. Not like incoming freshmen would know the difference and maybe it would catch on. Play for a boot or something with all the game scores engraved on it. Anyone over 20 years old would know it was B.S., but it might add some fun if we did some small stuff like that to try to embrace it. Not like we have much choice. We're the Thanksgiving matchup for each other for the foreseeable future.

Whats interesting to me is that it was a big rivalry once upon a time. The Rumble in the Rockies has been played 57 times up until 1962. Then no games were played due to conference changes until 2011. Hard to perpetuate something with that long of a gap.

We need a trophy.

Maybe we play for which airport gets to have Bluecifer at its entrance.

Was it really called the Rumble in the Rockies? That's great, we should bring that back.

A trophy for the UU CU football victor should be thought upon. Something that thinking people will understand references that it's a non rivalry but that conference master Scott might not get the true meaning of. Not sure what that might be? Maybe Ralphie nation has some thoughts?

Pffft, trophies. Loser should have to sing "I'm a Little Teapot" (with all the motions) at midfield the following year.

I like it. How about a two-sided trophy with an oversized Buffalo nickel at the top. Probably wouldn't work because I'm sure the native American isn't a Ute, but still like the idea of a trophy.

I think Sarah Kuta is already writing an article in protest to your idea of personifying a Native American for a football trophy.

In my book, it's you and us versus the rest of them. with the exception of one game a year, I find myself rooting for you guys every weekend. Here's to two great seasons.

Utah's DL will be sick again this year, but WTH is up with recruiting? You guys worried about that on your boards?

Something with mountains. Keep the trophy on theme with the name

Winner gets bragging rights to having the best snow on earth

I think it's actually an Italian dude. Same as the tear drop "Indian". Since I'm Italian I will allow it.

A rivalry can't be forced. That being said I am slowly beginning to see Utah becoming a rival. It is always a close hard fought games despite the separation of wins or rankings. I think both sides can say that (I hear it from many Utah fans at CU games). It does not help that I wasn't alive yet for the rivalry. Maybe PAC 12 should make a video talking to players and fans that have memories of the games and any video highlights. That might help bring a little more interest. But only time and crazy intense games can really help.

There wasn't a trophy for the CU Neb game was there? Who gives 2 craps about a trophy? No one sticks around or cares about the Rocky Mountain Showdown trophy.

How about a dinosaur bone of significant size, since we were maybe rivals back in the Jurassic period. Play some old diggin up bones song ... people could pretend to care for awhile. nahhh won't work ... no bad blood and maybe there never will be?

A spot in the Pac-12 championship game should be the trophy for winning our last game of the year. Once that game has title implications for CU we'll have few enough worries that we can start getting creative with a trophy.

I think that makes the most sense. Cultural fits, a little silly, and adds a lot of fun/color to the game.

you know, a bronzed ski boot could have some legs, so to speak. utah and colorado tourism folks could sponsor. it would be fun.
