Only $20?? Should have gone big like that Auburn fan did a few years back!

How is South Point by the way. One of the better off strip casinos I think.

Really good restaurant there. My favorite places off strip are Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock. Near South Point (and nicer) is the M. I'd put South Point at #4 for off strip.

I either stay at south point or sun coast when I'm here on business. Both are cheap and convenient to my job sites depending on which side of town I'm working. Nik has good suggestions too, I stay at green valley ranch when I'm here for fun. I hate the strip

Strip is the only place to be during the Pac-12 Tourney though. So many fans and so much energy. I could see it sucking other times of the year though.

Interesting he made it in January, a long way off from the start of the season. Before he had to drink so much Kool-aid from all the pre-season talk. Be tough to have bet on the Buff's success back in Jan.

Red Rock was the best hands down, gem of the Station Casinos brand. Its like a huge bar with some gambling. A west facing suite in the hotel would be awesome.

The M down Henderson was legit too, like the Cosmo for locals.

The rest of the Station and off strip casinos were full of Cousin Eddies.

Interested in why? I've stayed at GVR and SP. Didn't find a good restaurant at SP (well a sushi place that was ok and had a super hot waitress)..
GVR was pretty dead, but seemed like maybe some locals bars in the area. I have to go to LV a lot, can't deal with the strip.

there is a place in SP called Michael's (i think) that is supposed to be one of the best in town. it is also very expensive and you need advance reservations....needless to say i haven't eaten there. it is kind of hidden away on the way to the elevators, across from the gift shop. that is probably what Nik is talking about

Yep. Went there with wife a couple times on special occasions when I lived there.

Seems like Vegas is missing the boat a bit by focusing on young and single adults. When I'm there, I wouldn't mind catching live music and having some reasonably priced drinks. Just a normal place that might have people in it between 5pm-midnight, because I got to work the next day.

I don't want to buy a bottle and go to some club that opens at midnight with 20 year olds. (I'm aslseep by then)
I don't want to go eat a $60 steak and smoke cigars either.
Is there anything in between those two?

There's a place called Steiners that's about halfway between the south point and the south end of the strip. It has one of the best happy hours I've been to in Vegas, and they have a good food menu as well. It's pretty much a locals hang out which says a lot about its appeal. Check it out next time you're in town.

That's a good tip. The strip is just not appealing.

Yep. When I lived there, one of my biggest frustration was trying to find a smaller club to catch a live band or singer/songwriter type and have a few drinks. Vegas doesn't do "chill" very well. Everything is about going big.

That's the nail on the head for me. Don't need to go big to prove that I can. I will take good singer/ songwriter from Dylan to 2016. Guess I will give up the quest in Vegas.

We did catch Mac Cohn at Green Valley Ranch one time. They've got a smaller venue that's not a full arena. Decent. It was much better when we saw him at Chataqua in Boulder, though.

I saw Cohn at Chautauqua as well. Took a couple of my kids. Good times.
