i like us on defense this weekend. a lot.

even with derek out, with the strength of our interior line, we're going to see our defense tee off. oregon will counter with uptempo and spread it out. we're ready for that. the edge game worked for michigan in large part because of (a) the athleticism of their line (damn those guys were big and fast) and (b) they run a power offense and (c) great skill guys.

i feel really really good with this matchup. offense and special teams? maybe not so much...

Hope your right Liver, just can not get my hopes up anymore. The team is going to have to come out and prove it. I understand they looked good against csu and istu but we are back to square one, conference foe with lots of skill players and have recruited well, in an angry environment (you know those road games), and we are banged up.
I really hope we come out ready to play and not flat. If our run game suks it up again and put it on Montez to win by throwing? could be a long afternoon.

hope I am wrong

o is going to stack the box and blitz the hell out of Montez. o on O is going to run the option trying to get the edge. So? by the way they have a really good tight end so the LB's better be ready for him.
They learned a lot on the last 3 qtrs from um. as far as our punt team? They better prepare this week, the ducks have speed and will be coming after every punt.

Our run game sucked because that is one of the biggest and most athletic D-Lines we will see all year.

Also no way back to square one. This team went toe to with #4 until our starting QB went down, even with the ST failures. It is fine to be upset and disappointed in the performance because we should have won that game, but we aren't back at square one. Not even close.

yeah, when we are on offense, they are going to come hard and they have some guys with wheels. i feel like our o-line is improving week to week (ugly setback when sefo went down noted) and it will be on montez to make fast decisions. if he can get the ball out quickly, we might be ok. the run game still doesn't scare anyone. but, maybe we can catch them a few times with the misdirection stuff especially if they are trying to tee off.

despite feeling so miserable after the michigan game, i feel like we can win this. certainly, we deserve to be road dogs, especially if sefo can't go, but hope isn't lost.

I am just referring to square 1 with a new QB taking the helm, on the road, in Autzen.

Don't be so sure about a new QB taking the reins next week.
They probably sent one of our trainers up to the Pacific Northwest already to take notes on Russell Wilson's recovery. I know we have to win now, but I'm not so sure starting Sefo at 50% with a high probability of further injury is a better option than starting Montez and letting Sefo fully heal. Que the DodgeBall references ...

A grade 1 sprain, Sefo will play. Grade 2, Sefo will probably play. Grade 3 Sefo won't play.

Your post seems to imply that they looked good against CSU and ISU but didnt look good against Michigan? We led the #4 team in the nation for 90% of the 1st half. But that was an entirely different team to prep for.

With Oregon they one of the worst defenses in all the NCAA while we have one of the best.

Total Defense
RANK TEAM G PLAYS YDS YDS/PLAY OFF TDS OPP TDS YPG
#4 Colorado 3games 190plays 718yards 3.78yards/play 6off TDs 8opp TDs 239.3ypg
#82 Oregon 3games 242plays 1208yards allowed 4.99yards/play 13off TDs 13opp TDs 402.7ypg

Total Offense
RANK TEAM G PLAYS YDS YDS/PLAY OFF TDS TDS YPG
#10 Oregon 3games 213plays 1636yards 7.68yds/play 18off TDs 13TDs 545.3ypg (482 yards against NU)
#26 Colorado 3games 244plays 1500yards 6.15yds/play 16off TDs 8TDs 500.0ypg

Given the above the trick will be to use our defense to contain Oregon and then use our offense to keep Oregon's offense off the field.

Oregon's Rushing Defense
#90 Oregon 3games 120-OPP RUSH 510-OPP RUSH YDS 4.25-YDS/RUSH 8-OPP RUSH TDS 170.0-YPG (228 yards allowed against NU)

Oregon's Passing Defense
#72 Oregon 3games 65-OPP CPL 122-OPP PASS 698-OPP PASS YDS 5-OPP PASS TDS 5.72-YDS/ATT 10.74-YDS/COMP 232.7-YPG (200 yards allowed against NU)

Nebraska is ranked #55 in total defense thru 3 games.

Montez should be better with a full week with the ones. Much different situation this week. CU should be able to move the ball and score points, ducks still have plenty of playmakers and speed despite injuries.

Question is, will the other 10 guys on offense show more confidence in their qb and that goes for the coaching staff too.

I think you have to get Montez moving and running early to get him comfortable. Seems like he gets a little nervous to begin, sort of like the Spring game. He also seems more comfortable outside of the pocket and on the run. So get him running and rolling out on passes early and then try to put him back in the pocket on passing plays after he has some confidence.

In light of this year's performance, not sure your continued denigration of BL in all things is warranted. That dude carved up Michigan.

Agree. Plus his offense covered for a horrible defense in 2014. In 2015, I'd hazard to guess that it becomes difficult to effectively call plays when your QB is hobbled and your offensive line can't block anyone.

P.S. I am starting to get annoyed with the way a number of CU fans evaluate the coaches. Things going well: credit to Leavitt and Chiaverini (and RG). Things don't go well: MacIntyre's fault. Offense humming: Chev really did a great job with the O. Offense struggling: Lindgren's play calling sucks. Defense humming: Leavitt is awesome, should probably be the HC. Defense struggling: MacIntyre's recruiting put Leavitt in an impossible spot.

I was critical of Lindgren's play calling in past years, but through 3 games this season, I have zero problems with it. In fact, I think it's been very good for the most part.
