Butkus Award Ceremony Tomorrow

Just a reminder that the Butkus Award is being handed out tomorrow, not tonight. I'm not sure if it's going to be televised, but we should make sure we send out good thoughts in Dizon's direction. The guy deserves it.

Jordon Dizon

Big 12 Defensive Player of the year

2nd in Total Tackles this year (149)
1st in Solo Tackles (107)
11 Solo Tackles for a loss
2 INT's, one for a TD
4 sacks
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/playerDetail.jsp?yr=2007&org=157&player=44

He has played in every game since his freshman year. I find that amazing (not suprised, however).

Other Butkus Finalists:

Dan Connor (Penn State)
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/playerDetail.jsp?yr=2007&org=539&player=40

70 Total Tackles
66 (11 for loss) Solo Tackles
7 Sacks
1 INT

James Laurinaitis (Ohio State)
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/playerDetail.jsp?yr=2007&org=518&player=33

Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year

64 Total Tackles
39 Solo Tackles (6 for a loss)
5 Sacks
2 INT's

Even if a judge didn't watch any of these guys on film, just looking at the stats makes it clearly obvious that Dizon should win this award hands down. IMO Laurinitis is soooooooo soooooo soooo overrated as is the whole Big(11)Ten.

The only things that will hurt him will be the 55 we gave up to Mizzou and the 51 we gave up to NU. Also having Blowhio St in the mnc game will help Laurinitis.

Is the Butkus award the only award not being given out tonight? (Other than the Heisman)

The guys on first take didn't even mention Dizon... they just said it will be a close call between the two Big 10 LB's... Joke.

It's not good that connor and Laurenitis are both up for the bednarik award for outstanding defensive player of the year, along with glenn dorsey

Plus the fact that most journos understand there´s life between the East and the West coast.

AS much as I'd like to see Jordan win this, he has NO SHOT. Not because of his on the field play, but because most "voters" for the Butkus pretty much have no idea who he is.

The Mizzou game will hurt but everyone considers the NU second half to be entirely JUNK points. I wish we would have kept them contained for the whole game, but hey the boys deserve to celebrate it!
Dizzon is my boy!

this is not true. per plati, there are actually only a few dozen voters for the award and they ALL receive regular updates on dizon and his performance this year. the award will not be decided by the eastern-biased media but by the voters. and, the voters know who dizon is and what he has done. that doesn't guarantee he will win, but there is a reason he is finalist.

One other thing. Dizon and CU did it against one of the 3 toughest schedules in NCAA football.

That makes sense, Matt Russell wasn't the media front runner when he won if I remember correctly.

Not sure how many of you guys watched the NU CU game on tv, but the announcers had about a 10 minute conversation about how Dizon would not win it, but it is an honor to be named with the other guys, blah blah blah. I thought it was kinda tacky.

Well that's just Butkus!

I really hope this is the case. Plati is one of the best SIDs around and maybe Connor and Lauranitis can split a bunch of midwest and est coast votes and Dizon will come out on top. I'm not holding my breath however. I want nothing more than Jordon to win it, but I know the reality of the situation. I will totally floored if he wins it. Ecstatic, but floored.

Dizon was named as a Walter Camp All-American. Of course, the other two Butkus finalists are on the first team with him as well.
