Insight into MM's perspective of success.....

OsideBuff

Dimwitted ****
Yesterday during his press conference he lauded Tad Boyle with two wins over what is a pretty mediocre and probably not in the NCAA tournament UCLA Bruins...that he should get a "Lifetime contract" at CU because of the great things he has done with the BBALL program. Earth to MM...Tad is loitering around .500 this year...with awful losses to a horrid Wazzu and CSU...both putrid programs this year.

I think Tad has been an above average coach...but to say he should get a lifetime contract with an overall losing record in the Pac 12...one tournament appearance in 4 years...one tournament win in 7 years...deserves a lifetime contract? Is he even anywhere CLOSE to the success of Coach Mac1, who had a lifetime contract? Hardly.

Is Tads record the definition of success according to MM's criteria ? I can guarantee you that if you were to ask Tad is he has been successful the past 4 years...he would say he has not met expectations....

I never actually called you a name. I'm just glad you started a thread to complain about CU football coach's public support comments about CU's basketball coach.

I'm glad you took Mac's public comments literally with zero grains of salt.
He was quite serious in my opinion...and even if it was tongue and cheek..it sheds light into what Mac considers success. And stop with the "this is a young team" nonsense...he had the oldest, most experienced team in the P12 last year and they were bad. His recruiting classes that should be prominent in this years lineup are....gone, transferred...whiffs.

You made reference to my tagline...rather than debate his comments and Tad's record of success!!!! Are you saying UCLA is a juggernaut program this year and sweeping them is some kind of magical milestone?? My tagline..by the way was assigned by a TBD administrator, Would love to buy that dude a beer...maybe he will surface someday. .

Argue Tad's success please...maybe I am missing something in his record.

7 seasons
4 NCAA tourneys
1 Pac-12 championship
Post-season every year
Zero scandal or APR/academic issues

MM doesn't pretend to be an expert in MBB. SDB, go thru stones somewhere else.

Fire Tad Now! FTN
Then he needs to focus on getting to a frigging Bowl game...you know, winning record....and moving a bit closer to your rival Utah in terms of consistency and success.

I feel bad for literally everyone that has to interact with you day-to-day.

Actually...seven seasons...ONE tourney in the last 4 years..(he did well with predecessors players in that ONE P12 championship...that also gave him that ONE tourney win)...42-46 Pac 12 record.... Its all about what have you done for me lately...and his last four years are the definition of mediocrity. I guess we can agree to disagree on what is success.

Have a great day!!!!

TSchekler didn't make any reference to your sig line. That was another user.

However I will point out that it is interesting that in order to avoid being absolutely roasted (as usual) by smarter basketball fan's than you, you resort to posting what amounts to a basketball thread in the football forum.

The level of sustained success (.632 winning percentage over 7 years), has only been seen once in the history of Colorado basketball. That was back in the 30's / 40's under Coach Cox. No coach at Colorado since the NCAA decree in 1970, forcing teams to accept the NCAA bid if they were invited which effectively killed off the NIT as the preeminent tournament, has done what Tad has done here.

Last year was bad. It should have been much better, given the age and experience of the team and the star player at PG in Derrick White. Tad said as much. That is the reason he made some adjustments to his coaching staff to improve the offense and recruiting. Also the reason he refocused himself on the hands on coaching aspect of the job.

This year, while being a "down" year, it is ahead of most reasonable fan's expectations. Colorado is counting on 7(!) freshman. They are going to be inconsistent. They are going to be irritating. They are going to be frustrating. That is just the nature of youth, it is a common issue at all levels of all sports. Unless you are able to recruit and sign a class full of McDonald's All Americans, this is going to happen. It happens everywhere.

Also, why do some fans on here insist on comparing the football program and the basketball program as equals? They aren't. They never have been. They likely never will be.

Considering the uneven landscape of college basketball recruiting and the nut job coaches out there (ie.Eustachy) Boyle is great for our program.

Losing Miller and Battey at the beginning of the season was a brutal blow to our team, and despite all of that Boyle has been better than expected this year.

MM supporting Boyle is beneficial for CU in general.

Also, I made a mistake. Should have been 4 tourney appearances in 7 seasons, not 6. CU got boned by the selection committee his first year when we had Burks. So it's likely 4/8 seasons in the Dance after this year with 8 straight post-seasons.

This season's not over yet. But, yeah, it's unlikely that they'll repeat that Pac-12 tourney run they had in his 2nd year.

Last season was the one that bothers me. When they missed it in 2014-15, that was the year J40 had the back problems and it caused the team to run through Ski instead of him. I'm not sure if that's a tourney team with J40 healthy, but I don't think I'm blowing sunshine to say that it would have been a winning record with NIT instead of CBI if he'd been right.

And, yes, the past 4 seasons have been the definition of mediocrity. Do I need to point out that "mediocre" is a higher bar for CU basketball? Trajectory with the team he has is good for future years. You and others seem to penalize Tad for prior success and seem to try to give credit for that to Bzdelik. Bzdelik had recruited to a talented team for Tad's first year, but had almost nothing to do with any of the season after that.

Huh? Never compared the sports...just the definition of success that is held by MM....nothing more.

You’re the kind of guy I enjoy watching get kicked in the nuts on YouTube. What’s he supposed to say, “the basketball team is underwhelming and I think the school should fire him.”

You’re a special kind of stupid.

Good points...I think his team next year could be very good....having a point guard that is very good and some upcoming stars should make it a much better season.

Never said he should be fired...just saying he has been mediocre and for MM to call for a lifetime contract..even marginally in jest, is preposterous. And yes, I love your tolerance for other opinions and personal attacks. I hope for your kids sake that you are not advocating watching YouTube as a means of educating one self and for violent entertainment....and hopefully are teaching them something about tolerance about other peoples opinions that you may not subscribe to!!!! Personal attacks are very becoming...
