105th? Wow

CU will not finish 105th come the end of the year. After CU rolls out of Nebraska with a victory these 'insiders' will be stumbling all over themselves to jump on the bandwagon.

Understand that the slapdicks at the Orlando Slantinel are paid to felaciate the SEC and ACC Teams (Florida and FSU first) then UCF and the Big Ten teams and pretty much crap on anything west of the Mississippi.

They must have a different thing in mind for “sticky posts” at the Orlando Sentinel?

6 wins after this many years of MikeMac is failure. I know I am likely to be disappointed but I expect 8.

Of course you’re free to your opinion, but I disagree. Building a program takes a lot of time. I’ve seen progress. Sometimes it’s two steps forward, one step back, but the trajectory is positive, IMO.
That said, we will learn a lot about MM this year. I would be concerned if we don’t win at least 6 games. Figure we pissed away three games last year that were there for the taking. That can’t happen this year. There’s less margin for error.

When he first got hired I recall some comments that Mac could rebuild a program from shambles but questioned if he could make it thrive to be great.

If we get six/seven or less this season I think those sentiments will be pretty valid and I’d be more than ready for a new coach who can take the program to the next tier up.

After ten years of pure garbage, I’m willing to accept five or more years of pure mediocrity. I don’t think we will ever be in a position to challenge for a National championship on a consistent basis. The blueprint for doing so requires changes to our culture that I’m not willing to accept. I understand that I’m in the minority on this issue.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to value patience a lot more than many of the folks here. So long as I see competence from MM and his staff, I’m OK with staying the course.

I haven't seen anyone say we should be as good as Alabama or USC or we have failed.

I believe there is zero reason for us not to win 8-9 games most years, which means bowling most years. That level of success means you have a fighting chance at a conference championship here and there. With a conference championship comes the opportunity to be in the playoff on occasion. When that happens, anything is possible.

I don’t disagree with anything you say here. I’m just willing to wait a little longer to get to that point. I really believe we were in a giant hole and that it’s unreasonable to expect a program to go from dead worst in D-1 to a consistent 8-win team in five or six years. We are six years removed from being the absolute worst team in college football. You dont just say “I think it’s reasonable to expect 8 wins” after being that bad.

Anyway, like I said, I realize that’s not a common opinion areound here. I sense a lot of “he’s been given five whole years to turn this around!!! How much more time does he need??!?” I don’t think that approach works when you’re trying to rebuild from the dumpster fire that was CU football from 2006-2012.

I also remember how eager we were to fire GB, who had us consistently at that 8-9 win level. Bill Mallory just died and he was fired two years removed from a Big Eight championship. Fan expectations are always to be a little better than you are now. I don’t think that’s wise. Fire the guy you have, and you could end up with the next Chuck Fairbanks or Dan Hawkins. Every coaching hire is a crap shoot.

Six years in, it is all on the coach in charge. What he inherited is largely in the rear-view mirror and you judge that coach on his results and his results alone.

I have accepted that the program DNA is to be around the 25th best football program in the nation.

Things aren't constant from season to season, so that means years in the Top 10 and that also means years where we hope to see the Buffs in the AP "others receiving votes" list at some point during the season.

And recruiting will have some years in the Top 15 and some years that are around #35.

I'm happy as a fan if CU can run a quality program that stabilizes within those ranges. Those ranges generally deliver a couple awesome runs every decade. I don't think CU can or should be expected to sustain the highlight year levels. McCartney didn't. He had a 3 year run of winning the Big 12. The 6 seasons that bracketed that were 6 to 9 win seasons before riding off into the sunset with 1994's 11-1 season. That's probably as good as it gets here.

Neuheisel's 4 seasons were 10, 10, 5 and 8 wins. Somehow he's hated by most fans as if that's not good enough.

Barnett's 7 seasons were 7, 3, 10, 9 ,5, 8 and 7 wins. That got him fired.

So, yeah, if MacIntyre can keep us to where it's an absolute rarity that we don't qualify for a bowl and we get to double digit wins every 4 or 5 years -- we should be damn happy as fans. But we won't be.

Getting back to mediocrity from the dumpster fire takes a lot of effort. Getting to a championship (7-2 / 8-1) level takes a whole different gear. I’m not sure MM has what it takes to achieve then sustain it on a consistent level. Some may be happy with it happening every 6-7 years. I don’t think that’s what RG has in mind.

I have stated before that the 2013, and 2014 seasons should basically be tossed aside when evaluating MM, as 2 full years were needed to be dedicated to a complete rebuild of the foundation of the program. The 2015, 2016, and 2017 seasons are what should be looked at right now, and during that time frame the program is 19-20 (11-16 in Pac 12) with 1 bowl appearance and 1 CCG appearance. Not horrible when looked at in the aggregate, but it needs to be taken with a grain of salt considering 8 of the 11 Pac 12 wins came in one season.

That is why 2018 is a pivotal season for MM and this staff. Was 2016 a complete fluke and outlier, or was last season the outlier for the "new norm" under Mac, where 7+ wins is the standard every year?

I just want to know from, @Not Sure , what his expectations are going forward. At what point will you be willing to say, "Mac has had enough time to rebuild from the dumpster fire this program was, and it's time to consistently produce"?

On the flip side of my previous post, what do you believe to be reasonable and sustainable standards for this program (what RG has in mind)?

MM has a lot of benefits that were never given to his predecessors.
Absolutely.

I'm surprised that anyone would think that CU football isn't now in a position where it should be performing to its historical norms if the coach is doing a competent job. There's no excuse for performing below that.

Answering that question is like trying to define obscene. I’ll know it when I see it. For now, I am satisfied with the trajectory of the program. If that changes, you’ll be the first to know.

What's the trajectory of the program? 10-4 in 2016 to 5-7 in 2017.... 8 Pac 12 wins in 2016 to 2 pac 12 wins in 2017... Do you have tangible standards for the program?
