Colin Cowherd unloads on Jayhawks

I was listening to Colin Cowherd this morning on ESPN radio. He was ranting that what KU did last night was "bad" for CFB, the "big picture". Because they had a weak schedule and got the Orange. Mizzou should have been in the Orange Bowl instead of the Jayhawks. He went on to say that teams need to take chances and play OOC teams like Notre Dame etc. (like they were a worthy foe this year). He even said if we didn't take chances in health care and medicine our kids would die of colds (WTF???) :wow:.

I thought this was cheap shotting KU for a well played game. Its not the athletes or coaches fault they came from nowhere this season and handled VT on national television. Its not KU's fault they were named to the Orange instead of Mizzou - its has been agreed Mizzou got jobbed.

I normally enjoy Colin Cowturd but I though he was waaaay off this morning and demaning a team that did was KU did this year - played their schedule won their bowl in a well played game - was off the mark.

For this mornings show I give him a:finger2:

That is pretty messed up. Had KU blown it badly he would've had an argument. However, even with them playing a weak non-conf they still did what they had to do to get to the OB. You could also argue that a lot of teams blew their big chances when they came around and therefore if he wants to complain, he should complain about those teams.

I kind of agree with hiim. Woody said the same thing on ATH. It is the 'braska model. Play schmucks, build up a good record, get your name in the rankings, then try to get through the Big XII. KU was very lucky in doing that this year. It won't happen again for them. Now, with the 12 game schedule, you can really get on a roll playing slugs. CU should have beaten ku.

I also love listening to the Herd... However, I often disagree with him. He also claims that schools with an abundance of hippies will never be good at football. About 2 weeks ago, he said, "You will never win championships when your campus is overrun with hippies, I'm talking to you Boulder, Colorado." He's a SoCal guy, actually I think he's a UCLA guy... He doesn't look past the Pac10. I actually find him comical when he rips on the SEC.

Yep. No hippies in SoCal.

I can see his point - aka Hawaii this year. But OU wet the bed and they are big time. The best Bowl games so far were way before Christmas with the "lesser teams"

I think he is wacked out because the PAC10 didn't go far - and maybe because USC lost to the tree.

Actually he's an Eastern Washington guy. He was a radio host here in Portland for several years before getting his shot at ESPN. He is a Pac10 wonk through and through. I remember when USC and Texas were playing in the Rose Bowl, he kept saying that Texas was like a dog that was very excited about being in the car going someplace but didn't realize it was on the way to the vet to get neutered :haha:

better than rome in my opinion, mostly becuase he rips the **** out fo the SEC

I agree with him on the scheduling part, but I have to admit that KU did end up proving themselves against a good opponent. Although the schedule actually did still end up hurting KU in a way because they weren't even an afterthought for the MNC game, yet if OU, Georgia, or USC only had 1 loss nobody would have even thought twice about one of those teams being in there.

Hmm... if that's the case I might need to give him a listen. Still, I earnestly doubt his "soccer sucks" rants are anywhere near as good as Rome's, assuming that they exist at all.

Sounds like a Jim Rome wannabe to me.

He wishes (and I'm not particularly a Rome guy, either). Cowherd is the most uninformed, lazy, sh!thead talk radio host on the planet. Yes, worse than Sandy Clough. The guy brags about not watching games, and about covering "stories", which don't necessarily include the actual games. (Yep, an ESPiN guy through and through). His idea of "humor" is doing stupid voices, and rather than prepare a full show he prepares about 10 minutes of material and repeats it 6 times an hour.

His KU take this morning was all about the idea that KU played a sh!tty OOC schedule (they did) and that Mizzou was penalized and missed out on a BCS bowl as a result. Bullcrap. Mizzou also went undefeated in the OOC part of their schedule, and their one quality opponent was Illinois, who only won 2 games last year. Mizzou lost out because they had a tougher conference schedule than KU, something neither school could control. He also kept talking about how Mizzou had to play in a ridiculous minor bowl that nobody had heard of. They played in the Cotton Bowl, which has been around for 60 years or more and has a deal to take the #2 team from the Big XII - a New Years Day bowl game, for Chrissake. To hear his ignorant ranting, you would have thought they were playing a MAC team in Toronto this weekend...

His other point this morning was that Roger Clemens claimed that the trainer who sold him out to Mitchell (McNamee??) had injected him with Lydocaine and B-12, and Lydocaine is a drug used by dentists. So Clemens must be claiming that McNamee did his dental work too, and this made Clemens an obvious liar. Many things make Clemens an obvious liar, but that is definitely not one of them. This morning's show just convinced me more than ever that Cowturd is an idot.

And that is exactly how Kansas was penalized. I see no issues with Kansas being in a BCS bowl. Plus, they won. It is nice to have a Big 12 representative win a BCS bowl. Whether Mizzou got the shaft is irrelevant to me at this point. They had their chance to win the Big 12 and they didn't. If that is such a big deal maybe we should get rid of the Big 12 CG.

I think the aforementioned qualities describe the base qualities of all sports radio pundits, not quite sure why you guys listen to 'em. Post game shows are dece though considering they are just reportering.

On how much of an affront to college football KU is by winning, I'm slowly coming to realize what makes college football great is how everyone and everything screws with it. I'm not saying I like it or what it explicitly creates, but implicitly it's just another hilarious chapter in a pretty cool sport.

Well, the bowls are a ****ty system that have that one famous mantra as their cornerstone; "life is not fair". It's a good lesson for Collin and for the young men who play the game.

And now for round two of the playoffs;

USC v WVa
KU v Georgia
Missou v tOSU/LSU

And who else? Michigan beat a BCS team, Fla. ASU? BC?

Kind of interesting in my opinion if we had this going on for a couple more weekends. Or filling up the five weeks since the regular season ended. The BCS is still gay.
