Dana Holgorsen - HC West Virginia

well, that's the beauty of the tortured fan:

if wvu wins, and advances, then everyone will whine about the delay and the cost of getting him away from wvu.

if wvu loses, then everyone will whine that it shows he isn't the elite winner we deserve!

i think we can get him if we want him. but, i know nothing.
All I know is that if you can't beat Oklahoma with the talent you can recruit at West Virginia then you must suck as a coach.

Looks like Holgorsen has some family in Estes Park. Sister? I'm not great at the interwebz

I generally ignore Big12 football. I know I’ve missed some good Big12 football games over the years but I’m more of a B1G/SEC guy except for the Buffs and the occasionally relevant (non-Buffs) Pac12 game. I haven’t watched a ton of West Virginia over the years as a result, but one thing that gave me pause was that they rarely utilize receiving TEs in their system and I’m kind of done with us ignoring that part of the game.

Then I read that this year, Holgorsen identified that as an area he wanted to improve in their offense in the off-season, and he worked tirelessly to include the position in his schemes. Their 4th leading receiver is a TE who had 2 combined receptions the previous 2 years, but has 20 receptions for 303 yards this year (2nd highest YPC on the team). Their #2 TE has 14 receptions after having 0 last year. And their TE coach talked about how they will have to lineup at FB and out wide some in the scheme, but that they mostly expect their TEs to put their hand in the ground on the OL and block if/when necessary.

Love that Holgorsen is willing to adapt and mix and match. Get him, flip Rae, get Kyle Ford, and let’s see this OL become monstrous.

That's a Wickline influence. His impact and synergy with Holgerson has been pretty magical. The both make the other better. He is really been a driving force in adding a tough physicality to Holgerson's evolution of the Air Raid. I love Mike Leach and I know Holgerson is as pure a descendant but I actually like Holgerson's evolved physical Air Raid better for CU!

I think he’s become number one. Are there any reasons to think he is interested or talking to RG? (SIAP)

Another piece of his current contract (paragraph 7. University Approval Prior to Discussions Regarding Other Coaching Posititions.) says that "Notification is to be given to Athletic Director before Coach, agents, or representatives begin any discussions about other coaching positions."

So if he does interview, we would possibly hear leaks from WVU sources.

If there is a leak, and he's looking, the fans of WVU will crucify him, and practically demand he be gone.

That will not sit well in this area. They already have a love/hate/hate relationship with Holgs...

I don't see how the school can be interested in leaking that the HC is shopping around.

yup like any other fan base that just lost a close one about half of their fans seem to want to give him the broom

Unless that school was pushing public sentiment to either step up with more money to keep him or to turn against him and make it easy to go in a new direction.

I was working under the assumption WVU may want to keep a coach who has them in a position to possibly win a conference title in late November :)

I would assume any leak would come from someone not necessarily interested in keeping him, looking to perhaps takeover or put their own person in that job.

Which I think would make it easier for Holgs to leave WVU. The work RichRod did in Tucson couldn't have gone unnoticed.

really hope we are not wasting hope and time on Dana. I would love to see this Dude in Boulder. He is my #1 choice as of right now with the names being thrown around. He checks every box for me. If he were to bring his OC and DC ? Sold.

I just hope we are not pissing in the wind here. I want to know who are true possible candidates.

I don't really want either of his coordinators. I've kind of soured on Spavital as OC after reading some comments. On offense, I want Dana calling plays so I wouldn't mind keeping Chev in that scenario. Or, he's friends with Stitt and they're connected on the coaching tree. Could bring him up from Okie Lite. With DC, Tony Gibson is a West Virginia hometown boy and lifer who only left for a bit to follow RichRod before returning. I think we'd need a guy like Gibbs or Grinch who knows how to coordinate and deal with the challenges of that job when you run this style of offense.
