We got 3 coaches from a top 5 team in the nation. How is that a bad thing? Who did we think we were going to get? They come from winning stock and we act like this is a huge fail! WTF?

These guys came from georgia yes, was summers a position coach there? Johnson?

Nobody on this board had either in mind, now they are great fits. Pure comedy.

Ok Sonny was good. But a used up DC at CSU coming to be a DC here is embarrassing. Wear those rose colored glasses if you like but that’s the kind of guy that should be a LB coach
Tuck will be our DC, he brought in a guy that knows what Tuck wants and do as he is told. Agreed he is not a flashy hire, but Tuck got a guy who doesnt need to be coached. He will be in step with MT the whole way. And if we emulate Georgia Im good

If what Summers has managed in over a decade is comparable to what Lanning managed in two seasons at Memphis just starting his career while having to omit Lanning's best work, then they aren't actually comparable. Kirby hired Lanning over him in the first place and Lanning was Tucker's first choice so I don't know how it's even an argument.
Would you be disappointed if you found out Tucker was RGs second choice?
I have no idea how much more Tucker wanted Lanning than Summers or if he did at all other than an anonymous footballscoop saying so.
I was hoping for Lanning too, but there is no point in assuming Summers is a huge drop off and a desperation hire if we don’t know. They both have their strengths. If Tucker lands some recruiters with the last few spots it will be good.

So I'm a Georgia Southern fan. Today's news was a bit of a surprise to us. We were still on the hook for one more year of Summers' contract so thanks for taking care of that for us.

That said......he was ass my dude. He took the same roster that we transitioned to FBS with and went 18-7 the two years before he was hired and drove it right into the ground. We had the all time leader in YPC at RB (Matt Breida) and he managed ~3 YPC his last year and likely got costed a draft pick.

Our offense AND defense got worse, even more so in 2017. He was very much an old school, "gotta play tough" and knock heads in practice type guy. He came in and immediately said our team wasn't tough enough and didn't know how to practice, and basically destroyed everything we had that worked.

It was a mess.

Now, all that said, he's not the guy in charge now. He does seem to do well when someone else is in charge. Good luck to you guys. Tucker is a good defensive guy so if it's his scheme (Summers is a 4-3 or die guy) you'll know pretty soon who's doing the heavy lifting on that side of the ball.

Huh. I feel a tad ashamed to have any coach that has anything to do with CSU but I digress. Can we just get to November 2019 already? I want to skip this **** and see what the results are.

Great fits with our new head coach? Yes! Just because you dont get it doesnt mean ****.
What does saban do? Does he hire great fits? Kiffin? Butch jones? No! He hires ****ing talented coaches. Not his buddies. Coach Mac hired his buddies and that worked out

You are being dishonest in your portrayal here in order to fit your negative Nancy train onto the tracks.

Was Johnson or summers position coaches at georgia? You're being dishonest. Just admit these two were not what you expected. No, in typical buff fan fashion it's the GREAT HIRES! bs.

Like I said earlier, I'll get over it and get on board, but I need to vent and be honest about my perception of these hires.

If that doesn't toe the line here , too bad.

Now still 4 hires left so

Didn’t say he was a great hire. Another poster outlined his career, correcting your assessment.
No you’re right, you didn’t say anything. you said four ignorant words. Bring facts, not just smug words that mean nothing. Clown

Summers should be a position coach. But whatever, we'll know soon enough.
I think that is reasonable. I will say, though, that I value time spent as n Analyst at Georgia or Alabama more highly than if a guy had gone back to a G5 coordinator job. I think that could be hard for some of us to wrap their heads around since our QC guys have basically been GA types who have finished their master’s and graduate to a bigger non-assistant position.

I know we have been bad for years, but some of you need to get out of your funk. Who knew Coach Mac before he was hired? Barnett? Dinardo? Simmons? And all the coaches we had back in the day. Mac knew how to put a staff together, thats why they all went on the be HC. I believe MT will do the same. This is new blood, winning blood. It cant be taught, only earned and these guys know what that means at a very high level. Levels we pray to reach some day. So if MT says they are good enough Im in.

Don't be the rubber and glue guy. I look forward to you getting over your childish tantrum

I’m getting lots of entertainment from this thread. HCMT is getting paid millions to put together a team. So far, he has retained and hired people he thinks he can win with. He knows what he wants to do, he’s executing his plan. He’s watched people build and retain coaching staffs. WTF is all the hand-wringing about?! I’m pretty sure no one on AB is getting paid millions to put this all together.

Fair stance, here. Wow hires/flashy hires? No. Guys on my wishlist or radar? No. But are these guys who help you land talented players and win ball games? I’m hopeful, but only time will tell.

Listen I’ll support him no matter what. Just don’t act like this was his grand plan. It’s already been reported on guys we’ve missed on. Hell we couldn’t get an Alaskan away from Tennessee with more money. These guys might turn out fine but let’s not act like everything is Rosey and going according to plan

I can't really explain keeping 4 prior coaches, but honestly I think we're being a bit dramatic here on the coordinators. Johnson seems like a legit good choice, way more experience than any OC for us in a long time. Summers is less exciting, but has coordinated good defenses before, that's a plus. Perhaps Tucker leaned on him quite a bit at Georgia. Both are question marks on the recruiting front, but given how much Tucker has emphasized recruiting so far in what he has said, it'd be odd if his first moves included hauling in a couple of Bernardis. I'm not blown away so far, known names would've been a lot more exciting, but that doesn't mean these guys are awful hires per se. Hopefully Tucker has a big name lined up that's a recruiting monster he can throw a co-DC title at while Summers is the playcaller guy, that should get us properly excited.

How does one become a Georgia southern fan? That can't be easy
