'19 GA S Jamal Hill (Signed to Oregon)

It's just a numbers game. Population density.

Lot more than that, it is a cultural question.

In some parts of the country HS football is a big part of the local community. Kids are raised with the expectation that they will play for the local HS team.

In many communities as well football and sports in general is seen and promoted as a means of improving someone's standing in life. Being a HS star means you get recruited and go to college. From college you either go pro or get a chance to go live and work someplace other than the dead end town or city you grew up in.

As you can see from the link not all states produce prospects proportionate to their population. You can also see that there are strong regional trends. The states in these regions tend to share a lot of cultural characteristics including the emphasis on high school football

Big take away with this information is that while we have traditionally been reliant on California and Texas for the bulk of our players if coach MT can keep us strong in the southeast there is talent there to help us win.

Many of those kids are set on staying in the region but enough of them want to leave, want something new, that if we can get our share we can be successful.

Players like Hill can bring us a level of play to be successful in the PAC.

Ooooh!! NLI Day suspense! Love it!

Remember last few it was humdrum as we knew we wouldn’t get surprises for the most part and most players didn’t have better offers so everyone would sign. This is great. I needed this as a fan.

FWIW, I believe he is signing in February.

"It is set in stone now," said Hill. "I have official visits set to each school, I have four weekends to take visits, and I will sign with one of those schools."
Hill will be at Colorado January 11, Oregon January 18, Tennessee January 25 and USC February 1.

Awesome!!

Pretty telling that the school that concerns me the most is Oregon...

We need Oregon to finish crazy strong by getting a couple commits at the AA game this week on some DBs we haven't offered. Same with USC. Keep them away from Luckett and Hill.

247 has a free update up. Some interesting comments, odd ones too. I know I always get killed for my opinion but that’s okay, I was right about Ford too.

Sounds like a courtesy visit since he knows Tucker quite well. He seems to know absolutely nothing about Colorado so hopefully his visit will be eye opening and convince him this is where he wants to be. As his comments go it seems like he will come but doesn’t intend to seriously consider Colorado. But, that could change. As for the odd comments that led me to say that, he refers to Colorado as “far from home,” but is interested in Oregon and USC is intriguing just because LA. I’m not great at geography but I think they’re further from Georgia. Likes Tennessee too because it’s in the SEC, fair enough.

Landing him would truly show how good MT is at recruiting.

lol Hartsfeld to PDX is like a 5.5 hour flight. Then there's the 1.5 hour drive (minimum) to Eugene.

Hartsfeld to DEN is ~3.5 hour flight, and there's a 45 minute drive to Boulder (maximum).

I read a lot of his comments as he has no idea where he wants to go.
Colorado seems like it's a completely blank slate for Hill. Relationship with our coaches but his knowledge of the state at this point, like many high school kids, seems to be summed up as "far away and weather like I saw during those few minutes of Winter X Games I watched one time". Great opportunity to open his eyes and make a big impression.

There is a reason why coaches treat official visits so importantly.
