Steven Montez returning?

If Montez leaves, then I would take Hurts, otherwise, if he hopefully stays then we want to get a 4* or 5* stud for the 2020 class to compete with our already good QB's for the future.

I would rather have Cameron Rising if we are just picking transfer QBs from the portal.
Why would you rather have Rising just curious? If it’s because of years to play, I’d rather take Hurts who has shown marked improvement as a passer and then aim for a 2020 recruit with the opportunity to play right away while getting one of Noyer/Lytle/Stenstrom actual in game reps

Montez' value is all about potential.
Nothing has changed on that since I saw him at the CU camp as a High School Senior to be.

So far, we've seen only glimpses of what might be.....
At what point does potential turn to never going to be elite? He will be here for his 5th year if he stays

Just my preference. Hurts can do a lot for you out on the field, but I believe Rising would be a more accurate drop back QB than Jalen. Plus, yes, it would be nice to have him for a couple years.

He is who he is. Nothing more, nothing less. For those hoping (again) that this is his breakout year, well... what you see is what you get at this point. Having said that, I see nothing behind him even close to ready.

I dont know about you guys but i am getting tired of 5-7 seasons. I want what is best for the team and who the coaches actually think they can win with. If they think they can win with Montez fine. If not we need to get someone who can.

Agreed, I didn't make it clear in my post my intent was to put up the point that his potential won't come torfruition if it hasn't already.

Need to make a bowl game in 2019.

This,

Need to be able to sell recruits on Colorado going the right direction.

Until proven otherwise Montez is our best QB to lead us there. Hopefully with a new staff we will see a better level of OL play to give him a chance.

New HCMT though doesn't have to have any allegiance to Montez or any other returning starter. If someone is better than the upperclassman ahead of him then he should play and that includes at QB. I just don't think it will happen this year.

Ask Medford M. As soon as he has an elite OL and NFL caliber WRs, RBs and TEs, Montez will emerge to be a stud. You just watch.

I continue to be amazed that people didn't learn the lesson that you can't judge a QB completely that has a terrible line with Sefo. Sefo was never going to be a world beater but when he had a good line all of a sudden he made a huge leap. I really hope Montez stays. If he doesn't I'd gladly take Hurts but Montez is option 1 for me.

No, but you can certainly judge him by mechanics, reads, accuracy, leadership, field/pocket awareness, etc. SM maybe a good size athlete with a strong arm, but he is a mediocre QB.

Most of my criticism of Montez relates to his abdication of leadership the last two seasons.

Probably not a very good comparison, but Sefo was hot garbage until 2016. Point being a guy can have a pretty significant leap in performance from one year to the next. I’m not necessarily predicting that for Montez, but I’m not discounting the possibility, either.

But can Sefo eat 5 pizzas in a day??

I can't believe anyone doubts that Montez is a quality QB in a vacuum.

He was lights out before Pac-12 defenses figured out that if you took away the quick passes, the OL couldn't protect him long enough to do anything else.

You can wish for All-American quality QB transfers or recruits all you want, they're going to look like **** until the OL gets fixed.

Montez doesn’t suck in a vacuum, but Chev did protect him as best as he could. Montez was awful at throwing when his receivers were running diagnonally. I don’t know if it is a depth perception issue or what, but Montez consistently threw behind receivers or overthrew them in this scenario.
