Official Buffs vs. Air Force Game Thread

I said they should have gone for two well before they lost. It’s just my opinion, of course, but how could they have been confident in their defense to get a stop in OT?
They only had 3 second half points prior to OT. I’m okay with playing the percentages and trusting your defense in that scenario. Hindsight is 20/20 but I still personally think it was the right call.

Montez was very bad today outside of 3-4 throws .... but why the **** against Air Force is he running for his life on damn near every play. The OL was dog**** today, just as bad as our DL.

That said, we're 2-1, which is where most everyone had us to this point.

they don't have quit in them, but they also don't have crush the opponent in them either

Yeah, the team doesn’t have enough talent and speed to crush opponents like this. Doesn’t bode well for the pac-12 where speed matters.

Actually, I’m not as upset as I thought I would be.

Last week was such a high that I thought today’s game was going to be a bitch, especially against an option offense.

I’m not happy, but I do see progress from last years team and I’m happy with the improvement. Tucker is going to have his ups and downs, but I thought he managed time better than MM ever did. Some of the play calls in OT were suspect.

This was a game that the Buffs could have won. That long pass, the long run in OT and the blocked field goals. I think these things are addressable.

Maybe Lytle or Stenstrom don't get it done, but Montez has looked lost as 5th year senior. He still doesn't know his reads, he still doesn't understand D formations. He has no touch and his accuracy is questionable at best. I think Mel wanted the sure thing to start the season but he has to see that they should be getting more out of the O with the players they have.
This first one is opinion based on what you choose to believe. I'm not saying he's a genius back there, but as fans, we don't actually know what his reads are or what his pre snap responsibilities are. He actually checked us into several fortuitous plays today. He needs to be better and more consistent though.

The second part, we don't have the world beaters I think you think we have, outside of Shenault.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH **** COLORADO. YOU JUST LOST TO AIRFORCE ON YOUR OWN FIELD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Scoreboard - 0 and 2, bitch!

We are just beginning.

Everyone accepts blame for this game. While the win would have been extremely helpful for bowl qualification, maybe now they understand that they can’t sleepwalk through the first half. ****ing pathetic.

Not sure about that. I think most people had us 3-0 at this point. Definitely wins against CSU and AF and only a handful of people here actually predicted a loss to Nebraska.

At this point, you hope the great outweighs the inconsistency. Because that is not going to change.

I think Montez was suspect, not the playcalling. The only sequence I questioned was the 2 straight runs with Fontenot. But after thinking about it, I think Johnson just didn't have confidence in putting the ball in Montez hands after seeing how many wide open receivers he missed (I didn't have confidence in him either)

Well, it is a team sport. The defense, offense and ST all had their disappointing, unacceptable portions of the game.
Exactly. Easy to focus on Montez and yes he didn't have a good game but he was far from the only one. The OL had a poor game, the DL had a poor game, the DBs repeatedly got sucked up and lost men deep. STs got an XP blocked that would have been the difference in the game, KD made a bad choice returning the ball.

Overall this was a team loss. AF is a team we should beat but that took advantage of the situation.

Not panicking in any way about the loss but I'm sure HCMT will use it as a "teaching tool."

Montez frustrating but game was lost in the first half when our defense didn't have the discipline to stop AF from dominating possession and scoring.

Wanted to win this game and we should have won this game but AF did what they do. They played both an offense and a defense that is very hard to prepare for.

Hard for CU to stay focused enough to compete with the AF system after two huge emotional weeks.
The D caused a turnover on AF first possession, if CU can score another TD instead stalling like they did, it changes everything AF has to do being down 14. Then the O goes Punt, Punt, INT to finish the half.

The flexbone is really hard to stop when you don't have guys that will win the trench battle. Same goes for their DL against our OL. At some point our lines need to take some pride in being men.

Which four teams are they beating the rest of the season?
UA, ASU, UCLA all very beatable. Also, we're not playing another option team the rest of the year, obviously, and that makes this game one you can't really judge the D against. Both of our previous opponents had far better talent on offense.

We'll have a better idea of win expectations after next week.

I figured if this game was close it’d be 45-42 type of game because our offense would have their way. The fact that our offense could barely move the ball outside of Viska is extremely concerning. OL looked as bad as they did at any point last year.

How many teams have running QBs? I’m not too confident in our speed at LB.

Question

If you are going to truly run a power Wildcat play with a stud like Viska, why waste 3-4 players on motion, out wide, or a lazy QB?

Put in 7 linemen, 2 TE’s, and a Fullback, then blow those Mfers back!!!

I felt the play calling was oddly inconsistent today. There didn't seem to be any semblance of Johnson trying to establish the run early. The 5 false starts kind of messed up our ability to stay on schedule and keep running the football though.

You still have to spread the defense out, try to make it just about your 7 against their 7.
