Not permanently, but that's the one should CU wear vintage uni's.

Wherever there is injustice, you will find us.

Wherever there is suffering, we'll be there.

Wherever liberty is threatened, you will find...

The Three Amigos!

Next time CU plays Clemson would be a great time to roll those helmets back out.

They look hokey. If they ever go to a vintage helmet for a game, I'd like to see the gold ones with the black "CU" on the side.

I'm in the minority, but I thought the black helmets with the silver logo that Nike made them wear for one game, back in 96, I think, against Baylor, were just awesome!

We have one of the most recognizable logos in all of collegiate sports. Why mess with it?

Totally agree ... "awesome" is the right word. Once a year maybe, or once every other year at least.

But then again, I think the Broncos should not only wear their orange jerseys once a year, I think they should get orange pants and come busting out in ALL ORANGE! They could do it, the blue swoosh up the side would match up on orange jerseys and pants. Once a year, anyway ... bring back Orange Sunday.

Those black helmets were awesome. But the helmets in the picture look like devil horns and i've seen a different variation of those that are much better. Stick with the current classic one we have now.

i dont like the idea of a permanant change to a retro look. i like what CU has now. however, i would not mind once a year, for one game, going retro. it should only be done against the old Big 8 teams and at home. it can be an extended theme over many years.

start when CU joined the Big 8 (or was it 7 then?) and go from there. for each game, have the alumni who wore those unis honored at half. they could be honored at the parade on pearl street as well the friday before the game. its another way to keep the alum involved.

just an idea.

actually it was the Big 6 if memory serves me correct. CU made it the Big 7. and not totally screwed in my history ISU made it the Big 8. I may have to go back and re-read the history of the Big 8 as I really could have flunked out here....

oh I agree... getting the alums involved is the key to keep the history and tradition going.... and it does provide positive rep for recruiting too imho....

now that you mention it, i know CU was part of the Big 7. i have no idea who made it the Big 8. you are probably right though.

Big 6 from 1928 to when CU joined in 1948 making it the Big 7. It wasnt ISU (they were an original Big 6 member), but okie lite joined in 1958 maiking it the Big 8 (unofficially), until 1964 when the name was approved.

I don't mind a "throwback" type thing at most once a year, but they really need to leave the logo alone and establish some tradition. Stick with the current logo, or better yet go back a few years and drop that italics crap Nike created.

Maybe Michigan should drop their yellow stripes and put a big M on the side of their helmets, perhaps its time Penn St puts a lion on theirs, maybe Notre Dame should draw a guy wearing a dress on theirs.

LOL. Those teams ought to go back to leather helmets.
In football, tradition is overrated. Ask Army. Then ask South Florida.

if we ever do a throwback game...i like these:

I metioned this before, and bears repeating: the horns on the silver helment point down, like a Ram. The horns of a Buffalo point up. Ergo, I have no desire to ever see the Colorado Buffaloes wear a Ram helmet. :sad2:

Agreed.

Hey Ruff, what does the horns up version look like? I'd like to see that one in color.

the helmet project doesn't have a picture of the one in the orginal photo on this thread...but..it does have a side note about it...

Cool link.

This is a pesky photoshop question, Ruff. I know you have mad skills in that department. If you have any hours to kill, might you be so kind to improvise a couple of those Orange Bowl versions?

One gold w/ black horns,
One black w/ gold horns.

I think I'd want a facemask still.

worried about your purty face, wyo? why? i mean their noses and teeth look to be mostly intact.

:smile2:

actually, i still have a hard time conceptualizing what it must have been like to play without a facemask. i guess the good news is that they were probably deterred from leading with their heads while tackling.
