"Just look at recent history, blah, blah, blah..."

Thats all the sports talk geeks want to talk about. I listened to Clough and Evans this morning. Evans, trying to be the contrarian, picks the rams based on "recent history." While Sandy picks CU, he says it'll be close because of "recent history." They had B.G. Brooks on. He said his brain tells him it'll be a blow out but thinks it'll be close because of "recent history."

Well, they are correct that since '99 things have not gone well for CU. We have lost 4 of 9 and the rest have been close. But why did that come to pass. First, we lost in three of GB's first four years in taking over after Neuheisel had uncerimoniously stabbed the program in the back, leaving it devistated. This at a time when Lubick had his program rolling.

Then "The Scandal." The Scandal set this program back for several of the next years. Yet even through that, we only lost once, though all the games have been close. But if you look at the 10 years prior to '99, we went 7-0 and won by an average of 39 - 20. That domination is getting ready to return!

I've heard Clough espouse in the past that if a few plays had gone "the other way" CSU would be leading the series 78-1-1. The local media shills have absolutely no credibility.

Wow that's the dumbest comment i've ever heard....considering I looked up a few scores over the past 80 years that this guys is talking about...ahem:

2008 - 45-10 thumping (woops...hasn't happened yet)
1998 & 1995 - 42-14 clubbing
1992 - 37-17 whipping
1989 - 45-26 spanking
1983 - 31-3 shelacking
(a long period of time where we don't play each other)
1957 - 20-0 shutout
1956 - 42-7 murdering
1954 - 46-0 anihilation
1952 - 61-0 ass kicking
1950 - 31-6 whomping

Must I go on....But i'm sure those games were just a few plays away from going to CSU's favor :wow:

I hate Evans a Clough... Moser and Clough was a better combo. I'm done with The Fan until they get some new 'personalities' on that show.

I wouldn't read too much into what they're saying. The Fan has an investment in this game, and as such, it's on-air personalities have to do everything they can to hype it up. The only thing they have to justify why it *might* be a close game is "recent history". Well, that and $.25 will get you a call to somebody who gives a sh!t.

Simple fact of the matter is that all indicators point to a sound thumping by CU in this game. It's college football, and anything can happen, so we don't count our chickens before they hatch. If CU and CSU were to play 20 times with the teams & staff in place right now, CSU might win one of those games. If all the stars align just perfectly, they will win this Sunday. A lot has to happen right for them, though.

No, you need not go on but we do love your adjectives

It isn't just Clough and Evans, its all of them, including B.G. Brooks. Maybe its that "root for the underdog" mantality.

Sacky is right. The guys who sign the checks for Clough, Evans and the old guys have an interest in selling tickets. Therefore, the on-air "talent" must give CSU a perpetual rimjob to drum up interest....

Ram fans are also spouting off about recent history. They are now talking about moral victories saying CU will win this game, but it will be close based off recent history.

I'm so sick of this "recent history" B.S....we need to start some new recent history this year and beat the living sh** out of them!

I really have the feeling that if CU wins a close game, CSU fans will treat it as a victory.

You are dead on there....i actually had a nightmare last night about the game...CU definately won in the dream, but it was close and I didn't hear the end of it from CSU fans...how lame would that be..."you couldn't even whomp us....you guys suck." :wow:

Remember that CSU used to be an A&M, so it's natural that they act just like aggy.

The media is like the civil war ferryman who earns cash no matter if the uniform is blue or gray.

The media and the Invesco organizers have it in their vested interest to put out as much propaganda as possible in an effort to sell tickets. A large part of that marketing campaign is based on playing the "rivalry" card. The media will do anything to paint the picture of two evenly matched heavy weight fighters slugging it out in the biggest venue possible. Their favorite story line is some deep rooted brother versus brother grudge match. The schtick is old and tired. I think both fan bases have been taken for ride. All this hype provides an excuse for both fan bases to act like jerks in what is essentially a low rent bowl game played at the beginning of the season. I'd venture that there'd be a lot less fictitious bad blood if the game was played on campus. The Invesco organizers are merely white collar carnies who bank on the principal of a sucker being born every minute.

This focus on recent history is just putting purfume on the pig. By halftime the only people watching this game on TV will be out of state Buff fans and CSU masochists. The rest of the country will be flicking channels once this myth of a close rivalry game disappears in the reality of a rout.

History does not turn Farris into an experienced QB. History does not give CSU a pair of lock down corners or a SS who can cover CU's WRs. History does not rush CU's offensive line or stop CU's rush. History doesn't expand Fairchild's playbook nor solidify the chemistry of his fledgeling team of Sperry, Bell and twenty other questionmarks. And apparently, history doesn't sell out CSU's allotment of tickets.

No matter what the media says about the past, this is one of those fights where CSU will take its lumps, collect its paycheck and rely upon Sonny's glory days to salvage any pride. The expectation that history dictates a close game is a setup for another CSU disappointment.

The guy down the street is a CSU fan. I've never met him. He seems like a nice enough guy. During the '05 game, I could hear him, literally, during the game. When CSU went up on that late TD, I hear him shouting "Yeah, Yeah take that" at the top of his lungs through his open windows. A few minutes later when HC scampered in from about 40 yards out I hear "Awwwwww...not again". Man, it was beautiful.

I think he'll be much quieter this year. I just hope you don't hear a gunshot.

Just to play devil's advocate, you guys have to admit we were pretty fortunate to win last year.. And the game has been relatively close since the 01 game, although we are 4-2 against them in that span..

CSU will play us tough, but I do think this is the year we break the recent trend and win comfortably.(more than 10 points).

And then he was done watching or caring about lammie football for another year!

And that is it right there...lots of bluster, then rams lose, it's off with the green and gold and on with the orange and blue and a hearty go broncos...

To be fair, they aren't the only fans who quit watching when their season ends.

They are the only fans whose season can end prior to the end of August, however...

whatever. cu has shut out csu more times than they have beat us.

hasn't recent history (you know, this century) shown that we are have won 2 times for every 1 of theirs? I know I know this is a pathetic ratio, but god, it is not something to be proud of if you are a rammy either!

A win is a win, but, another close win would be a bit of a disappointment, I must say. However, it is college football and anything can happen. The close games have been too prevalent of late and it is time for a convincing vicotory.

I simply can hardly listen to the Fan anymore. There is so little about college football and so much about the pro teams that I just don't often find anything interesting to listen to. I'll listen in some this week since they will talk about CU and CSU, even though the discussion hardly has any merit at all. I will also listen next week to see how they spin the butt kicking.

GO BUFFS!!!

Ooohhh! Clough just took a shot at us CU fans. He said, "If you go on talent, CU will win, but if you go on best fans, CSU wins by 5 TD's." I guess we are supposed to show CS ewe more respect.

CSU has better fans?!?? How the **** did he dream that one up?

Hah! What do they average in that high school stadium by season's end, 15,000? Clough is a gutless blowhard who has always tried to be "controversial", he's a Howard Cosell wannabe without the brains to pull it off.

Hell, I've seen him. Howard has him beat on looks too. I saw him and Mike at a Conoco by Pepsi Center when the Avs were in the playoffs on the last Stanley Cup they won and he was in a kids net with people shooting those foam pucks to try to win stuff if the pucks went by him. Seriously, people were trying to take off his head with those pucks. He was ducking and weaving and just trying to get out of the way of the pucks. People were doing a slap shot extravaganza at him. It was great. Real rubber pucks and he might have been knocked the **** out. People could not give a **** if they won anything, they just wanted to hammer him.
