2022 Myrtle Beach Invitational Tourney thread- (RV) MEN'S basketball (Conway, SC; 3rd CU game vs. Boise State, Sunday, 11/20,5:00 PM MT, ESPNNEWS)

Tad's going to have more fodder to shake things up. They played with extreme effort though. The loss that this team can't excuse is ****ing Grambling.
They played with a lot of effort . . . For thr first 4 minutes and the last 6 or 7.

The rest of the time, I don't think nique and tds knew they were at a basketball Game, let alone playing in one.

Wright put in a lot of effort, but was something like -17 while on the court. Gabadon was a brick machine.

LOB was a non-factor.

This one pisses me off. Team is schizophrenic and lacks leaders. Plus, we still only have 3 starters - KJ, TDS and LL. No one except Hadley filling the banger role (he's undersized for it) and no one stepping enough at the 2 & 3 to push TDS to the 4. Hammond is doing good things as our PG2, but I think we're too undersized to roll for most of the game with him and KJ on the court together.
Tad's got be be a combination of pissed off and disappointed by the play of O'Brien and Clifford. Both need to be dropped down in the rotation. Go small and give Hammond, Gabbidon and Ruffin more play. A small lineup can't be worse than what we're getting.

And Where the Fvck is Allen? Is he just a practice player at this point?

Umm, I guess I'm glad I missed this one. Did UMass disguise Camby and Dingle out there or what? Do this **** in November and figure things out.

I'm not particularly psyched about Gabbidon either, fwiw.

There was a post earlier about Allen. Something to do with him dealing with personal issues? There's no way on Earth he isn't a better basketball player than almost everyone on this roster.

He thinks he's still that free flowing, perimeter shooting "Splash Brother" from high school. That needs to stop. That's on Tad.
To me, he should be a slasher. Shoot your open three's, but don't have that be your whole game. His stroke is too good to keep missing all of them.

Frankly, we have no one I trust from deep right now. That's all Wright should be doing. The style he played at Princeton ain't gonna work against a big boy schedule. Play defense and spot up on the perimeter now, Ethan. Our best 3 point shooter right now is...gulp...Simpson. That ain't good.

as much of a legend for the program as Tad is, I’d love to see more consistency between classes

feels like the standard pattern is NIT/NAIA (or whatever the third tier tourney is) > NIT > NCAA (with maybe 1 win), then rinse and repeat

want to disclaim that I’m spoiled saying that a year in which we beat #11 Tennessee on the road is an off year, but we’re constantly making November excuses for the team. we shouldn’t have lost today, full stop

Dammit... Wasted the best game LL has played. Lots of observations but a couple are:
- We took too many 3s.
- Missed a lot of bunnies.
- FT shooting sucked.
- Didn't stop penetration very well.
- Couldn't get any momentum going due to our shooting, gaurding, and interesting calls. I thought the refs really changed the game by giving that guy 3 free throws for kicking his leg out. But we have to be smarter, we should have never been behind in the contest.

I can't really call them cadets when half of them in the program aren't on an ROTC path to a military commission at aTm. A lot of them are just playing soldier like Trump did in high school.
I haven't looked in a while, but last I checked, only something like 1/3 at aTm are actually real military. The rest are cosplayers.

We definitely didn't shoot too many threes. That's how you win in basketball in 2022. If you have an open look from 3, you take it every single time. Our guys just need to hit them.

Like I've said a million times, fake army, male cheerleaders, nough said. A&M folk I knew at the time resented the living **** out of me for saying that. That just made it worse for them voicing their displeasure.:D I promise, I didn't add on to that, scout's honor.

This is the number one reason we lost!
That stretch of misses was just too much.
For a couple years, I had always asked about who is in charge of training the guys on finishing around the basket.
We need to try and dunk more, we need more savviness with both hands, we need better pump fakes and we need to draw fouls.
If we make those shots or get fouled, we run away with the game. Instead, we miss the shots, we get blocked, and then they have extra possessions.
This one sucked (n)

I agree, they need to hit them, but sometimes when the 3s aren't going down you have to figure out something else. I don't like the idea of settling for 3s if your not hitting them. Maybe we have to be dependent on the 3 ball due to our lack of size, but in this game I think Hadley and TDS should've got more post up opportunities. Or drive and put pressure on the defense, draw some fouls.

And we got beat in 2022 by a team that shot just 11 3's.

Concerning the loss to UMass, it really came down to missing too many shots both inside and beyond the arc. At one point in the second half the Buffs missed 10 consecutive shots. It wasn't all due to great defense on the part of UMass or poor shot selection, shots were just not going down. I spent a lot of energy yelling "just make an effing shot!" at thee TV.

In the second half the Buffs shot about 30% from the floor including 25% for beyond the arc and only made 4 of 9 free throws.

Despite this Buffs still had a shot to get to overtime and again, just couldn't make a bucket.

Hadley out with ACL sprain - MJ

Somebody said Allen was dealing with personal issues. This makes sense. Any physical issues, Tad would have said. Any attitude issues, he wouldn't be the good teammate on the bench. Wishing him well.
