I know many fans realize this but we did not show anybody anything all that usable on film. We beat them on talent, strength and speed.

The offense used on misdirection play, for the most part put a hat on a hat and went right at CSU, nothing fancy.

On D, we blitzed maybe 5 times...maybe. The DL played straight up, there were few stunts or twists on the DL and still got 5 sacks. There were no disguised coverages either. They showed man, they played man. They showed zone, they played a zone.

Even with playing it simple, we won convincingly against a team who gives us their best shot every time we play them.

It'll probably be more of the same this weekend, with a bit more of the playbook opened up but still not giving WVU much to look at on film.

Given that the game will not be televised, how much game film will WVU get?

How do teams get game film? Will EWU give it to them? Are we required to? How does that work?

End questions.

We are not required to give them anything. But there is somewhat of an unspoken rule within the coaching ranks....that you share tapes with another staff as long as you are not going to play them later in the year.

They WILL get full recordings (Sideline, endzone,) from CSU and EWU.

And Mike Leach's staff has a care package headed for Boulder.

Wait so is my sarcasm meter off here or are you being serious? Would Tech actually do that?? I mean I guess I can understand it if the Big 12 is supposed to stick together... but you're being sarcastic here, right?

I am sure that they have sent them already. We don't play them this year. Likewise, we will get a call from them for UT, and other's game tapes after we have played them. It goes both ways

And it doesn't look good for anyone in a conference like the Big 12 to hang a duck on "Sub-Division" teams

A supporting quote from Dan Hawkins' press conference today:

We felt based on being the first game and having a little bit of an idea, but not totally exactly an idea, don’t want to get too creative in terms of what you’re doing, by and large some of stuff was working, so RON didn’t get too creative w/ the blitz packages, but mainly it was just a four-man rush.

THAT makes me feel good! I can't wait to see what happens when they pull out all the stops... both on D and O. Hopefully we won't have to get too creative during the EWU game... but I expect to see some interesting play calling against WVU. That's gonna be such a fun game.

...oh and Hawkins 2 for 2 on 4th down conversions... I like it. Keep it up and keep going for it! I'm a fan of that kinda play calling...

Chances are DH won't show a lot either this weekend either, so it'll be another weekend of anticipation. But yeah, they'll open up against WV.

On one of those he chose to hand the ball off to a true freshman and he made 8 yards on the play. The wisdom to go for it and the confidence to put it in the hands of a true freshman.

And if he hadn't made it...
The ignorance to go for it, and the ****ing stupidity to give it to a true freshmen. :smile2:

Its amazing how my view of play calling changes based solely on result.

I thought the same thing but results are what matter. Just like a long 3 in BB, if it goes in its a great shot. :smile2:

I don't think the team 2 years ago believed in themselves enough to consistently convert fourth down. I think the personality that Hawkins is stamping on this team is where they walk up to the line and know they will make it. Going for it on fourth is not just about X's and O's, it's about attitude.

Exactamundo. When we went for it against ISU and didn't make it, the look on Hawk's face was pure contempt. While it was a stupid move on his part, I think he does stuff like that to instill a certain attitude in the players.

I agree. At the very least, he did it to see if they had an attitude to begin with. If not, he would know whether he'd have to kick 'em in the butt in those situations. Pretty slick gauge of toughness.

Some of us can't be on chat 24/7, so it's nice to see it in a thread.

it was said about ten minutes after the game. perhaps fifteen. how super sweet it did not require a 24/7 approach.

point being, "yeah we thought so, too".

clear nuff?

As was going for third base in high school. All about attitude.

It will be so awesome to watch the playbook open up and watch this very young team grow and WIN. GO BUFFS!!

I was still drinking with the alumni club at the time then. :drink:

Hey Austin - apparently the Houston CU alumni club may not be organizing a big A&M Texas alumni pre-party in college station. (Can Spiff or any other H-town alum confirm this?)

Anyways, did your Austin chapter discuss this? Maybe DFW and Austin and any other Texas chapters need to step up and coordinate the CU welcome wagon for Aggie weekend.
