****ING INCREDIBLE

PUNTZZZZZ

Edit: I'm still a little fuzzy on details on the extra COVID year, but I think Tory Taylor is done after this year. He's going to finish in the top 10 all time in career punting yardage, likely the top 5, with an outside chance of finishing in the top 4. He's going to finish in the top 20 of career punts*, likely the top 15, with an outside shot of getting in the top 10.

The funniest ****ing thing about all of that is that the rest of the guys in the top 10 played for two 9+ win seasons, COMBINED (both by a guy who played 6 seasons at Northwestern). The Hawkeyes have averaged almost nine wins per year over Taylor's career, and that includes the COVID year when they only played 8 games.

The second funniest thing is that the top three guys in all time punting yardage were playing in the B1G in 2021- a true punting renaissance.

* Taylor is currently tied in all-time career punts with our very own Darragh O'Neil. It's not a really fair comparison, though. Taylor has been to 2 bowl games and a B1G championship game to pad his stats.

UT's Ewers looks like he's coming back to Austin next season. Wonder what that could mean for Archie Manning or the UT backup QB who played in Ewers' absence. Texas also has a manageable SEC schedule next season so with Ewers back, Texas could easily be one of the favorites for the SEC crown next season.

I'd think Maalik Murphy is all but gone with Ewers and then Manning lined up. Seems like the odd man out. Kudos for him for sticking this year out. But given the $$$ in the portal for QBs and I'm assuming his desire to actually play, I'd think he jumps in the portal after today's game.

Can't see Manning leaving and I guess he'll just be a backup next year too. He looked rough in the game last week but that was just a small sample size.

This belongs in the WTF is wrong with people thread. Holy crap.
Alabama fans and Nebraska fans have a lot in common. Their self-identity, self-image is tied to a bunch of 18-23 year old kids, mostly from other places who will be gone never to return once their football careers are over.

They would be exactly the same other than you know that winning thing.

tOSU absolutely imploding. Lost their 5* starting QB, lost to their main rival, the highes number of portal players of a ranked team… what is the plan????
Why hasn’t Texas A&M announced their coaching staff?? Don’t they know they’re losing players to the portal, 5* recruits are flipping to conference rivals, and the portal just opened today?!?!?

I think the plan is to pay Cam Ward and Jordan Seaton $1 million each and win the Big Ten next year.

Do we now have precedent for the CFP to rule out a team because "even though the starting QB hasn't announced yet, we think it's likely he'll skip the game and go pro so, his school is getting ranked lower"?
No, because I don't think a MAJOR player has ever announced that they weren't going to compete in a CFP game.

However, it's an interesting hypothetical. To be clear, I do not think this will happen, but what if the Bears went to Penix before the semis or championship and said, "look, we're mathematically assured to have the 1st overall pick, and we will give you a guarantee to take you there right now. however, if you get injured (and you do have a history of serious injuries) we can't justify that level of risk. Who knows how far you might slide?"

We saw last year that you don't even have to win your conference (Ohio State) to make the CFP.

These aren't really "takes" or opinions, hokie. They're facts based on 9 years of evidence that 1 loss is perfectly fine. Sometimes a team with 1 loss needs help due to who their 1 loss was to, but it in no way prohibits a team from making the CFP, which is what you are trying to argue.
my mind keeps coming back to this over concern I may be using the word wrong.

My understanding of 'take' in this context is something along the lines of "thoughts or opinions leading directly from an external source". They could be interpretations of the original source material, could be tangential thoughts or could be opinions of how to interpret the source.

What's your take on my understanding of the term and how does it differ from yours? I clicked through the first four pages of Urban Dictionary definitions and didn't find it

And the Title IX lawyers are about to make bank. The minute a school offers any sort of enhanced compensation and NIL to the football team without offering the women's rowing team equal deals, is the minute the lawsuits are filed. Already an ongoing suit against Oregon that could have an effect.
