Man, I know we are limited, but we have got to try opening things up a bit. I can't remember us throwing on 1st down in the second half. Especially the last two or three posessions. Our passing game is almost non-existent. No team we play will give our passing game any respect. What really sucks is on a sure passing down, we have to have two backs in the backfield and just three receivers. How the hell are we ever going to throw it with that kind of set and with that kind of play calling mentality?
 
I was frustrated when they would get some good play out of Hansen, then run the same play three times to no hole and then punt, then bring in Cody the next series. Like it was Hansens fault. I also did not understand Hansen not throwing more. he has the arm.

At the end, when Cody had to convert that third down, I could not watch (almost) since I thought it would get batted down or be a miss (like the throw behind a uncovered JFly earlier). But he came through.
 
Did anyone else notice the difference in the throws between Cody and Hansen?

Hansen's ball looks to be on a rope compared to Cody's that are like an artillery shot. That third down that Cody converted looked like a hail mary toss. He converted it and it was an awesome crucial play but the difference in armstrength was sooo noticeable tonight.
 
People around me were annoyed that Hansen was only running like 2 plays. You have to remember he only got some of the snaps this week and they probably only had a package or two for him.

On the flipside, our tight ends have disappeared. And since we don't throw over the middle, we don't know how to defend it.

As for Hansen's arm, it does look better but he needs a lot of work on his reads. KSU was just sitting in a zone, he threw one pick and two almost picks and balls were tipped. At this point, we have to pick our poison. He is going to make freshman mistakes.

The TEs have disappeared because we have to keep them in for max protection 95 percent of the time.
 
just a friendly reminder. Hansen is a true freshman. Not going to have the full playbook, not going to make all the right reads, not going to look completely dominant out there. I thought just putting him in there was a great "play call" to actually run the spread partially the way it is supposed to be run. Next week, throw in some more offense but for round one, he was pretty successful.

Well said. Its a win and something to build off of.
 
The playcalling has pretty much been bad.

With Cody under center, you just have to stack the box on D. He's not mobile, can't throw over the lineman, and if D.Scott is in the backfield he will get the ball to run between the tackles. If it's a passing play there is so much pressure on Cody that he throws it early, before the WRs make a break on their routes. His lack of mobility hurts when our O-line is not dominant. That's frustrating.

Hansen really could help this offense. His mobility allows him an extra 2 or 3 seconds which allows the receivers to potentially get open. If the play breaks down he can run it himself. That is much harder to defend against.

But back to the playcalling, it's been way too predictable. Something I didn't expect with Hawkins at the helm. Perhaps we just need a new offensive coordinator?

The only chance we have with Mizzou is to play Hansen all game. There is simply not enough game film on him to prepare adequately. Until Scott is healthy he should take more snaps as a receiver or should be used at least somewhat as a decoy in the backfield, where he can drop into the flat should the play break down. We're not built for a power running game at this point, and it's crazy to think that doing the same thing over and over will somehow lead to a different result.

On the other hand, giving the ball to Speedy for a cutback on a misdirection play has been working very, very well.
