Can we get back our Mojo?

I don't know, but watching these bowl games scares the hell out of me. So many programs seem to be way ahead of us. Can we catch up, and surpass these D-bags? I am having my doubts.....

It's highly unlikely but never say never. They have to ease their admission standards and start accepting phys ed credits from jucos. There are a lot of other things that can be done but they take money and that is something CU doesn't have.

no. but what is you're point? You are scared of teams we beat this year?
WVU..yes...look pretty good...ok, QB and RB gone, but good base. What can you say about the lammies? A lot of character....we will still kick their ass.

Back to the primary point....we are trying to rerun back to 1990...it will be an uphill battle.....

My Felicity Shagwell-esque answer is that CU players never lost their mojo. These guys played a competitive game against Okie Lite and the nubs. They beat WVU and CSU. The kids have been baptized by bowl teams and know what it takes to earn a bowl birth. It's not like CU is Northern Colorado.

Back to the primary point. I'm not scared of any of the teams mentioned by you.
Are you playing for the Buffs? If you were, you would know that several of those teams would do some damage....

You're killing yourself if that's where you're hoping this team will end up. Just as Nebraska will never again be as dominant as they were in the 90's, CU will never again be as dominant as it was from 89 to 96. In the modern college football landscape precious few programs have the capacity to be that good for any sustained period of time.

Unless you're USC, the best you can hope for in this day and age is a consistent output of 8-10 wins with an occasional (say once every 4 or 5 years, on average) run at the mNC game. That's well within our grasp, I'm contented enough.

God bless you! My exact point!

I'm just pointing out that you listed a bunch of teams to be scared of. We played 3 of those teams and we beat 2 of them in what pretty much anyone would call a down year.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you suggesting that WVU is returning a lot of players? Dude, they lose their entire O-line this year. That NG is good though.

I'm not worried about any of the teams on your list. We're bringing back our entire offense next year. And guess what? We bring back nearly our entire offense again the following year.

CU will be an excellent team very soon.

Man, nothing like quitting without putting up an effort. You and Dallas roll over easier than Ned Beatty. How did NU get into this discussion, again?

You need to join Optimists International...one of their sayings is..give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

Would you feel beeter if the coaches just came out and said "we will never have a dominant run again so no athletes need commit"?

You need 2 outstanding recruiting classes to have a chance...by outstanding, I mean proven, not potential.

I said 8-10 wins a season is within our reach, how is that rolling over?

What, should I just spout off a bunch of nonsense about playing in 6 BCS National Championship Games every decade because it's a more hardcore thing to say?

CU has a lot of talent on offense. My concern is at QB. Will Hansen grasp the playbook and perform next year? If he doesn't we are in trouble.

On defense, we need better play from the DL. It's a must. I'm very concerned about this next year. We had two Senior DT's this year and they were regularly giving up 4-5 yards per carry. That will get you killed in most games.

Special teams can't be any worse, so I'm counting on improvement there.

As to the original post, if we are able to start off the year 4-0, our mojo will be back. That mojo can be lost with a dumbass game plan against missouri or a bunch of missed FG's against Texas, though. Win 9 games next year and the mojo will be back. It's not out of the question.

Good points. I think the offense will ultimately determine how well we perform as a team next year. You need to score points to win in college football these days, and we obviously struggled in that department this year.

How much improvement we get out of the QB position will go a long way in determining our fate. I really hope Hansen is ready to step up. I worry some about the defense, but maybe we'll be better there simply by keeping them off the field more.

As you say, special teams cannot get any worse (or at least I would hope not). Would be nice to have a FG kicker that could regularly make them for sure.

We will need threats at the WR positions, which was sorely lacking this year. We return McKnight and J-Fly. I would expect Blackmon and Simas to contribute, especially Simas. We need at least 2 true-freshmen to provide serious threats THIS year.

And we need Hansen to learn to stay calm and find the receivers. I believe he has the athleticism and arm to get it done, but the mental part is the big question.

If these things happen above, our Offense should be MUCH better. Our D-line remains a concern, but I'm less concerned here than most. I think Hypolite didn't stay as focused on football in the off-season and I don't think the LB's were tough on run-support. We return all of the LB's next year and add 3 redshirting freshmen, so I'm holding out that we'll be surprisingly ok next year on D - just like this year after I spent all last year worried about DB's and they were probably the strength of the team.....

The mojo I'd like to see comes in the form of team leadership and team chemistry. Rabid Goldfish was a darling in the media, but he didn't have the same kind of presence on the field that Dizon and T-Wheat had the year before. I'd like to see strong on-field leadership from Mohler or Chap'pel or one of the other LBs.

On offense, it's so clear that Cody is the heart and soul of the unit. The team could use one of the playmakers like Speedy or Scott and J-Fly to mature a bunch in the offseason, absorb the playbook, and provide an anchor on the offense while Hawkins and Hansen duel it out.

CU needs a better/more dynamic player at QB, period, and the team will be a lot better. Or they need to understand that the passing game is a limitation rather than a strength and run the ball more than a lot. We've all discussed CH's positives and limitations ad nauseum here so there's no need to go there again but our football team can't afford to have another year with limitations at QB in a pass-heavy scheme... it just won't work.

Defense I think will be fine with some solid secondary play in that soft coverage and an LB corps that will have some high expectations placed on its shoulders. Front 4... who knows? As long as its not horrible it shouldn't be losing us games.

I could see this year be a year where things either really "click" on offense and everything comes together in a big way OR another year of treading water - neither scenario would surprise me. If/when the offense gels, though, I think they will be a very productive unit.

Holy ****! 04 reached a nearly positive conclusion regarding our Buffs. He gets a rep.

Go to a power running game you guys used to run and start recruiting Samoans again. You'll be back. We NEED you guys back in the north. Better you guys than Mizzou, KU or K-Stank.

I personally don't want them to lower the admission standards and accept credits that are out of alignment with the schools academic policies. All that does is make for good football and 'potentially' bad students and degraded degrees from CU; I understand there could be some great people taking phys-ed and we're missing out on those gems, but I'm OK with that risk.

We can recruit kids that fall within our stated admission standards that can play football. It's not easy, but its possible.

Let the others go to some **** hole in Central Florida and get a degree from that school that will land them a good job at McDonalds supervising the Husker burger flippers. :smile2:

This is Boulder Colorado dammit! Home of the ****ing Buffs!

I think as CU fans, we tend to overstate the admissions standards for our student-athletes. It's the same across the board in the Big XII, as I understand it, though we're stricter than most when it comes to JUCO credits (grades).
