Is this guy a jackass or what? He has to play at Florida in September, and starts off his career at Tennessee by making a fool out of himself. Hey dumb $hit this is the freakin SEC, save that kind of crap for the minor leagues.

He is getting off on the wrong foot, for sure.

Any background on what you're talking about would be helpful for an ignorant pos like myself :smile2:

I am stealing this take on it from someone else, but I love the stunt. Its exactly what Jim Harbaugh did at Stanford, walk in, make some noise, grab a recruit or two and pick a fight with the biggest kid in the yard.

Actually its basically the same stunt Mac pulled trying to pick a fight with nebraska right after the Fairbanks era.

UT made a poor hire IMO. Fulmer was stumbling, but to can him and lock UT into the position of having to hire a HC right at the end of the season was a poor decision. They would have been far better off waiting until the end of the season, and gauging interest from more sources than were available when Lane was hired. They would have been far better off with Brian Kelly, Chucky Gruden, Gary Patterson or even a Bud Foster type coach. Kiffin is a disaster waiting to happen IMO. Maybe none of those guys wanted the UT job, but I find that hard to believe, UT is a pretty plum gig....

Actually, he reminds me a whole lot more of Skippy Neuweasel at this point in time. Cocky, unprepared to be a head coach and ignorant/apathetic regarding the rules. I hope Tennessee has somebody watching him closely so that they don't end up in the NCAA's crosshairs the way CU and UW did...

Something about during his signing day press conference he claimed Urban Meyer called one of his recruits on a visit non-stop and claimed it was a recruiting violation, which it's not. He also took the kids phone and started txting his high school coach and said he was committed. THe kid said it was a joke. ALso, something about saying he was gonna kick Florida's a** next year and any kid who leaves Tennessee it won't matter cuz they'll kick their a** anyway. I think he has officially pissed off the entire SEC

What are you talking about? Skippy was a QB coach with no major co-ordinator experience.

Kiffin ran the offense at USC, and was the actual head coach of the radiers for a year and a half. Not only that but he has one of the best d-coordinators in the game on his sideline.

Skippy had some good assistants too. I'm talking about the two of them - Neuweasel and Kiffin. Kiffin has been a head coach, but not a terribly successful one. And sharing the OC gig with Sarkisian at USC - was that really all that much more than a QB coach role?? What we're seeing now leads me to believe he still isn't ready for a head coaching gig. We'll see about that. But the arrogance based on nothing and the cavalier attitude toward rules seems awfully familiar to me....

It is not just calling out Urban Meyer. He also called out Mark Richt a couple months ago for struggling to lure top in-state recruits to UGA. He also bashed the coach at Pahokee High School (big time high school talent in Florida) yesterday as well. There's nothing wrong with confidence, but don't go overboard.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't ever remember Mac shooting of his mouth like this goof. I can never remember him talking about things when he absolutely doesn't know what in the hell he is talking about. As a big Mac fan I think it's an insult to compare an immature person like Lane Kiffin to Mac. I'm sure the powers at Tennessee have pulled him aside and warned him to never do something like this again.

I apologize to Commissioner Mike Slive and the SEC, including Florida AD Jeremy Foley and coach Urban Meyer. My comments were not intended to offend anyone at the University of Florida.

What kind of a half ass apology is that? You called Meyer a cheat - but that's not intended to offend anyone?

You are correct in your characterizations of the way the two men acted/are acting but I still think the spirit of picking a fight with the big dog in your league when you have no business doing so is very similar.

One thing is for sure - the media hype for the Florida game will be sky high, but the game is in The Swamp - he's not helping his players out.
This whole show looks like a me, me, me - grow up.

I think Kelly would have been a saavy choice, but I see upside to the Kiffin hire. Whether or not his Dad is a great coach, he gets hyped every Sunday when the "Tampa 2" gets mentioned in an nfl broadcast. That has to have recruiting value with kids.

The other move Kiffen made was hiring Orgeron. He is a maniacal recruiter, that put Tenn in a good place. If they can generate any sort of offense, I think Tenn will be pretty decent in the next few years.

I think Urban Meyer just circled the date when they play Tennessee. They better get a lot of police ready because it's going to be a homicide in the swamp!

I forgot about The Orgeron, in 3 years if Kiffin can coach offense 1 lick they are going to be a force.

Kiffin is a moron and dead wrong for what he did but, please forgive me if I don't feel all sad for urban meyer. The guy is a liar and and everyone in the SEC knows it.He does have a hot wife...
