KEARNEY — Nebraska-Kearney football coach Darrell Morris announced Monday that Andy Avalos has been hired as defensive line coach for the Lopers.

A California native and a Boise State graduate, Avalos replaces Jesse Williams, who left UNK in late December to become an assistant coach at Division I New Mexico State.

Avalos has spent the last three years as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Colorado. He worked with all aspects of the defense but specifically coached the Buffaloes’ outside linebackers.

At Colorado, Avalos worked under head coach Dan Hawkins, who also was his college head coach.

This development for the Lopers could be interesting. Coach Morris is a "nose to the grindstone" kind of guy. The Loper coach has a good eye for coaching talent.

I will have to walk over to the Stadium and watch a game or two next season and see how the Defense developes.

Good Luck to the "new" UNK Assistant Coach Avalos!

No doubt fulfilling his lifelong dream to live in the forbidden paradise that is Kearney, Nebraska.

Good point! He may even learn something about coaching football while at UNK, living closer to God's Country and being around just plain good hard working people.

Hell, he may even grow into coaching so much he becomes a Husker Assistant Coach someday, if he is lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

FIFY, and as to the second part--- that may not sound like hell to me, but certainly sounds worse than purgatory.....
