Cali WR up to four offers

One of the receivers in the West next year will be La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.) standout Kenny Stills. Still had a big junior season and is hearing from schools from all over the country.

Stills caught 62 balls for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns a year ago to earn all-section and 1st team all-state underclass honors from CalHiSports.com. He plays basketball and also runs track with personal bests of 10.5 in the 100m and 22.0 in the 200m.

"La Costa Canyon (Encinitas, Calif.) wide receiver Kenny Stills received recent offers from Penn State and San Diego State, but Stanford appears to be his clear leader. He doesn't plan on committing to the Cardinal until he clears admissions."

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

It sucks to lose him, but I'd rather see the kids commit early. No matter where they go. That way CU can sort through this a little easier.

Stills' top school has been USC for some time and whether or not the Trojans offer could determine whether he stays close to home or not.

"I'm really looking forward to their [USC] Rising Stars Camp," Stills said. "They told me if I do well there, that's when I could get offered. That's my dream school but at the same time, I can't wait around forever. If I can't get there, I think it would be fun to go away to college and experience something new.

"Penn State is really my only offer outside the West so like I said, everyone has a chance. I might visit Cal and Stanford though and if I'm comfortable there, I could end up at one of those two schools but as of now, I'm thinking USC or I'll be leaving the region.

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

The stakes are very high this year. A bad year for CU will kill any of Hawks chances for a good class imo. We need W's this season.

Yeah, I know. Capt. Obvious right? :smile2:

Definitely seems like it will be boom or bust this year. If we can put together a nice season, I think our class is going to be really good. If not, not so good.

USC just offered," an excited Stills said. "I talked to coach [Pete] Carroll and he gave me the good news. I can't believe it because they always told me I had to come to the Rising Stars Camp before they would offer, but I guess they changed their mind and I'm glad they did.

"I'm still going to the camp but it's great to have this offer and USC is definitely my leader. It's where I've always wanted to go but I'm not ready to make a commitment anywhere yet. My parents want me to wait things out and be sure of my decision and I agree with that as well."

I wonder how much they paid him

** PLEASE NOTE THE SARCASM

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

I thought we had a decent shot with him. He talked about visiting and we certainly can be appealing for playing time. The USC offer basically ends that hope.

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

He could still spurn USC. It's interesting how Carroll and Co. basically pressure guys into committing...

“I somewhat have a top 10,” Still said. “It’s Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, USC, UCLA, Cal, Washington, Penn State, Colorado and Nebraska.”
Stills said in addition to Penn State, he plans to schedule official visits to Oklahoma, Tennessee and Florida.

“I’ll save one other spot and see what happens,” he said. “I’m definitely going to take all of my official visits and go from there.”
Hope we can convince him to come on an official since we were in on him pretty early.

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

Don't think we have much of a shot with him anymore. It sounds like he really liked his Cal visit. He's also hoping for a Texas and a Notre Dame offer.

Just don't see it happening unless we come out 4-0 and play a respectable game in Austin.

I don't think our chances are great either, but a good start would change a lot of things. The kid has gone from a USC lock to looking around, who knows what can happen if we get on a roll to start the season.

I don't know what our chances are but Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, Penn St, USC, Texas, Notre Dame...it would be a MAJOR coup if we could steal this guy.

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

FWIW, we're so far down his list that Scout doesn't even list him among our offered WRs any more.

Edit: Of course I post this and then Scout runs an interview update this morning with Stills saying he's got family & friends at CU, likes to snowboard and has been out to Colorado, loves the creativity/personal touch of the mail he gets from Coach Hawkins, says CU is the most aggressive recruiter of him, is looking for a program with a solid tradition, chance for early PT, and a great college town, and that he has no issue with going to school away from home. Sounds like we're solidly in the running for him. He will wait until January or NSD to pick a school.

We still have a very good shot at landing Mr. Stills.

FWIW, Penn State looked to be the leading choice but they already have 2 solid verbals at WR. We've got a good chance with Stills.

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

The longer he waits the better our chances (as our competition is picking up commits left and right). We need a solid season to get this guy as we are up against the BIG boys. Kiesau love can level the playing field a bit, but I don't see elite WR's lining up here if our passing game doesn't improve dramatically this year.

Re: '10 CA WR Kenny Stills

Oklahoma looks like they're making a big push for Kenny.

Should be interesting. They're in decent shape for Kyle Prater out of Illinois and Justin McCay out of Kansas (may not be a WR at the next level though).

Really hope we can get Stills on an official visit to Boulder. If our offense can show we are actually a viable threat in the passing game, the WR depth chart has to be very appealing to elite WRs. He would also dramatically upgrade our speed on offense all by himself.
