Love a Challenge?

Matty wasn't afraid of the competition here in Boulder, the problem was he didn't think he was getting a fair shot at beating them out.

Honestly I don't see the connection to Ballenger. I think I'm having a bad day with recognizing things.

Is it regarding his exit because he wasn't feeling like he got a fair shake?

I wish I had more hands so I could give this post FOUR THUMBS DOWN.

"[Trajuan Briggs] told ESPN's Greg Biggins, "It came down to two things for me. One was location, I wanted to stay close to home and USC is in my backyard. The other is the competition at SC. USC has so much talent and that's something I thrive on." COUGH(ballenger)

boooo...
Ballenger made his decision and left in a classy way. Never badmouthed CU, just left the program.

Really unfair to say it was about an unwillingness to compete.

boo again.

I know the bunch of you think it's okay for guys to take up a spot on the team, take the coaches' time, consume space on campus, and then leave the program because he's not getting playing time. I don't.

You call it classy, but I don't think there is a classy way to do that, unless there is some sort of family emergency or other plausible, non-football reason. Boo me all you want, I reserve the right to disagree.

Go you. Nothing like ripping on college kids who simply do not find the right fit in Boulder.

Will you say that if Toney Clemmons becomes a buff?
Under this logic, he should have stayed in Michigan and rotted for four years. At least.

That's the horse****tiest thing I've read on this site in a while. And, BCS has posted about 40 times a day for the last month and a half.

I think 18 year olds are capable of making decisions and sticking with it. Those who choose the military don't get an out. Of course he (they) can do whatever he want, but that doesn't mean they didn't let down their coaches, their teammates, and ultimately, themselves. Your expectations are so low...

Not true.

Good thing you have such a solid perspective here. Comparing the military to college football. BTW, valdez is right on the whole not getting an 'out'.

Aside from that, I'm not sure why you have such a problem with Ballenger. He will be leaving on good terms (his dad posts on rivals). It did not work out, better for him to move on if his heart is not in Boulder anymore. Plus I'm sure you had everything all figured out at age 20.

I suspect this conversation will go nowhere, but I'll give it one more try.
If Matt Ballenger thought he wasn't contributing to the Buffs in the way he wanted to, and expected to, when he signed on, couldn't it be admirable that he chose a harder path, which is starting over somewhere else, whether in football, basketball or ???

It sounds as though you are saying he let you down, or the team, or the school, by stepping away from his scholarship. I know so little of what happened, but I wish he hadn't. I was rooting for his success at CU bigtime, but I'm not going to second-guess now that he was right or wrong. It was not an easy decision for an 18 or 19 year old to make, and I think it was a more MATURE decision than staying somewhere you don't feel you will contribute.

There are plenty of players in programs across the country who are riding out their scholarships -- it's a choice they make, and I'm fine with that, too. But it doesn't make them better or worse than a player who decides a school isn't a match for his aspirations.

I hope to heck you think this through before you post something else disparaging Matt B. or another player for living their lives as they see fit.

18 year olds are absolutely capable of making a decision and sticking with it. They are also absolutely capable of admitting they may have made a wrong decision and making it right.

Just because they are football players doesn't mean they are not human and cannot make a bad decision.

I don't know one person in my life who hasn't made a bad decision and then attempted to correct it. That is called life experience.

Humans learn from wrong decisions. That is what makes us human.

I applaud the person who decides to make a wrong decision right. I don't see it as letting others down. Individuality means something in our society. If someone is unhappy in a situation, it is only up to them to make it right. If someone is let down from that, then that is his problem.

So I assume you still have the first job you ever had, the first home you ever bought and the first car you ever drove?

Sometimes life involves change. Sometimes that change even means not being a Buff anymore. Hard to believe, but true all the same...

There are plenty of sh!tbirds who get shown the door. At least when I was in.

Nice try at deflection, but I'm comparing 18 year olds and commitment. Yeah, you can get out of the military dishonorably, which is what I think MB is doing here. Thanks for making my point.

I agree that your argument goes nowhere. Why contrive a circumstance when we know enough facts? Tell me I'm wrong, BB, did his dad post any kind of emergency or special considerations, or is this a football decision? BTW, feel free to keep to yourself unsolicited advice on my future posts.

I include myself in the group that's made a bad decision, and I have no worse critic than myself. I don't let myself off the hook, which is part of my point about other posters here. And I'll take that individuality comment and go my own way, speaking my mind.

So I assume you still have the first job you ever had, the first home you ever bought and the first car you ever drove?

Great argument. Thanks for the input.

With that - take your best shot, you can have the last word. I'm through defending my opinion on this one.

Wow. You posted your original comment on the board in hopes of what?
Getting no response or getting all responses that agreed with you?

I feel very strongly about this. I am disappointed in your pig-headed approach to categorizing a player's decision. I cannot imagine what you expected, but I hope Ballenger and his family never stumble across this thread or anyone else who feels entitled to dismiss his decision as simply unwilling to compete.

Feel bad for you and your near-sighted view of the world. But I'll stay off your future posts. Done.

Worst thread ever! :sucks:

Here's the main problem, zbuff. You are acting as if this wasn't best for all parties. It appears that the coaches had decided MB wasn't going to play. MB decided he wasn't going to play. Now he gets to go to a better situation for himself and the team gets a scholarship they can use for a player that they do think will play.

Bagging on the kid here is absolutely bush league.

What about the kids who leave after 3 years to go play in the league? Are they in the wrong and leaving their team?

Thousands of kids transfer between universities every year and the only ones we hear about are the athletes, are you telling me that when those other kids signed their intent to enroll at whichever University they picked, they are now bad people for doing whats going to be best for them in the long run?

Your argument is not logical or credible.

Lets start a list of kids that zbuff doesnt like:
1. MB 2. T. Clemons (if he leaves Michigan for sure) 3. Katoa 4. C. Blackmon

That is at least 4 of hundreds of kids in all 119 D1 schools that ZB now has a beef with.
