Matt Hayes predicts CU as one of 2009's most improved teams even without Smith

We'll see.. I still think they are a 6-6, 7-5 type team unless a whole bunch of players really progressed in the offseason (which is possible).

i'm in the 6-8 win camp but every year under Hawk someone picks us to "break out". if we are improved more than 6-7 wins then J-Fly or no J-Fly isn't the difference. it means the team as a whole has "improved" with depth, experience, a legit run game to keep D's honest on 3rd down and (knock on wood) big uglies returning from injury.

I am thinking 8 or 9 wins. No one in the big 12 north is pulling away. KU is probably a preseason favorite but not a power house.

****ing Notre Lame fans.

ND would destroy any of these weak *** teams by at least 40 points.

ND 56
Losers mentioned 10

9 wins would be fantastic. I'm lowballing my expectations at 7 after being disappointed the past few years.

Okie Light losing 1 game is also a surprise. It sorta predicts a victory over UT.

****ing Notre Lame fans.

Notre Lame - snark, giggle, guffaw... :rofl2:

Over/under on when the excuses start pouring out of South Bend? Week two? Three?

Feel free to choose from the following:

The Refs had it in for us
There's a conspiracy against Catholics
Admission standards are too high
The other teams cheated
Charlie Weiss ate the playbook.

i like the bolded one.

you know who's not on either of those lists?

Texas A$M. at 4-8, even with a cushy, typical OOC slate a 7 win predict makes them +3 like most of the list(s). i thought there was a time in about 00-02 that ATM could take "the next step" and be on equal footing with OU and UT when Mack "couldn't win the Big Game". at least be the "cool team" in Texas like they were in the latter years of the SWC when RC had some top 10 teams. but, now, they are on the losing end of OU, UT, Tech, and OSU in the South--and that's a long climb up. and people like Baylor to win 5-6.

A&M has severe problems right now, we should not have lost to that team last year. Baylor is ready to make the bowl jump IMO.

All the signs are there, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the Buffs should be vastly improved....now they've just got to do it...excuses aren't going to fly this year

I think Tech is headed for a downturn, as is A&M (kinda already there). I think you're going to see OU, UT, and OSU separate themselves into a consistent top three with Baylor actually contending for bowl berths going forward. It must make the folks in College Station pretty sad to realize Baylor has the coach they should have hired.

the Sherman hire is a baffler. a career 8 win NFL coach from off the radar who was at ATM for a year or two with RC or Sherrill.

I don't know about Tech. as long as Leach is there, they have developed a "brand" that will attract skill players. and with Crabtree, get some Texas bluechip WR's who want to put up stats and play right away and "get paid"...and not sit on the bench for a year or two at UT or OU.

i like the Bill Young hire at OSU. if i was a poke fan, i'd be pumped for that.

i hate notre lame as much as the next guy, but look at their schedule this year. they could easily win 10-11 games, and that's ****ing disgusting.

Look at their schedule any year. This is ND we're talking about here. They ALWAYS crater. It's in their DNA.

Notre Dame's schedule is about as easy as last years'. Why will they be better? They could easily lose 5-7 games. They just aren't that good.

my ND buddy says 9 wins. he's usually about 2 wins optimistic.

if at any time they are 4-0 or 6-1 expect the ESPN fellatio to be unreal.

I took a gander at Phil Steele's book last night.

He has the Buffs as one of his 10 most improved teams of 2009. He has the Buffs finishing 2nd in the Big 12 North to Nebraska.

Baylor will have the opportunity to remake their program into a respectable one over the course of the next three years (two if they are unlucky). They will be able to be competitive with everyone in conference outside of OU and UT (I think OSU loses a lot after this year) and could get some momentum going.

Wouldn't mind having a Griffin-type player here at CU but I don't see it happening any time in the foreseeable future, this staff just hasn't been able to get it done recruiting QB's. I wonder if the constant revolving door of offensive schemes scares guys away?

did you buy it off newstand? or did you have one mailed to you? The website says it will be out on June 9th.

I didn't buy it. I saw it on the shelf at my local Hastings store, along with Sporting News, Athlon, etc. Since Phil Steele is pretty respected I looked at what he had to say.

I can swing by tonight probably and pick it up, if you're wanting some info out of it.

I have read Steele's book many times but it seems like he crams so much information in there that the thing is almost impossible to read now.

thanks, Loveland Barnes and Noble failed me tonight, I might have to venture to another one.

Another place you might want to check that is in the north metro area is Newsland in Westminster, they typically have the best selection and get stuff sooner than most stores.
