CSU on the Quad #73

We match up better then them at every position, except for POSSIBLY their OLine v our DLine.

New QB
Lost some wideouts
Lost RB's
Lost best LB
Weak secondary

They aren't good

Their wideouts are actually pretty good. I would say they have the advantage at that position. But they are also going up against our strength on defense, the secondary. Should be fun to watch.

It will be interesting to see their passing game without Sperry, and they also need to find someone to throw them the ball. Our LB's and DB's should have no problem with their wideouts.

This game should not be close.... but of course the Buffs will figure out a way to make it close

don't forget they lost an NFL RB and their other guy that has done good work against us the last few years. Hard for a team like CSU to replace that kind of production and talent.

I think we'll by about 14, but we're in trouble if we think our LBs can cover their WRs.:smile2:

Seriously, Morton and Greer both are very good. Have to prevent the big play.

I'm not that impressed by them. They had opportunities because of a strong running game last season, as well as a huge TE target. That gives those guys an opportunity to shine.

Their losses of key players at RB and TE should hopefully allow our safeties to hang back, and maybe even allow our LB's to drop into coverage a bit. Couple that with a newbie QB, and I think we should have no problem stopping their offense.

If the Rams are able to get Mosure going, and they may (he's looked good at times), and if their line really is the best in MWC... then the game might get interesting.

Our running game should be rock solid in this one and a good opportunity for a confidence boost in the paasing game. a win by 14 at least.

They are very talented WRs. The thing about receivers, though, is that they tend to be as good as their QBs. That's a HUGE question mark for the Lambs. Although we've had a nauseating tendency to make whoever they throw out there look like Joe Montana.... :sad1:

Ferris looked terrible last year. I was loling at him. Johnson was the one we made look pretty good.

We didn't make Gartrell Johnson look good. He is just simply a very good player.

Yeah, not Ferris so much. But we made Hanie look much better than he was for a couple years, and before that the unibrow absolutely killed us. Whoever they put out there this year, we need to make them look like the scrub they will be....

So long as our OL avoids injury through fall practice, CU will own the clock and the scoreboard.

How many days, hours, minutes until kickoff?

yup. he and Sperry were good players. i'm not in the "we'll smashmoush everyone, hurray" camp until i see it on the field....but, we ought to beat those guys by 2 scores.

it's one thing to say "we're gonna line up and run it" and another to do it. last year we experimented with the no-huddle....there's no real precedent for this road grater O we're telling ourselves about. when we are calling TB sweeps or off-tackle handoff on 3rd and 4 with success instead of the WR reverse play or some meager play action out pattern (while the D doesn't respect the middle of the field)....then i'll believe.

That's the CU-centric view of the world. A balanced analysis should take into account CSU's strengths and weaknesses. Smashmouth against an unproven CSU unit is a very different thing than against conference play.

But I have a CU-Centric view of the world! I fully expect the Buffs to win the National Championship every year. I also think the Rams and Fuskers suck, and I refuse to say nice things about them. In my mind, the Buffs are better in every phase of the game.... always. :smile2:

Come on Dio. There are nice things to be said about both schools.

The Ram fans are very smart when it comes to football. By and large they only will watch when there is a quality product on the field. All but 19k of them avoid watching bad football every time CSewe plays in Ft. Collins.

Nebraska fans don't smell as bad in cold weather.
Red is a great color (for medical waste/hazmat bags and kNU fan gear...appologies for being redundant)

 I concede the point

As a CSU guy I agree with most of the analysis so far. In my view, CSU's O-line is clearly the strength of this years team and likely has an advantage over the CU's D-line. If the the O-line can get in synch and get one of the running backs going (i.e. Mosure, Gaye, or Mason), shorten the game, and connect on a few play action shots it could be close.

That said....In reality, the program still seems a season or two away from any real continuity in the lineup. Breaking in a new QB, a new RB, and a defense without Brewer on the road looks to be trouble. Combine that with what I believe to be the biggest advantage by either team (CU's O-line vs. CSU's D-line) and I think CU wins by 17.

wow. I didn't know rational CSU fans existed. :wink2:

I think the Rams ended the season as a better team than the Buffs, but injuries had a lot to do with that. A little insider tells me that the redshirt receivers are off-the-map good and will be a huge surprise. They will only be great if the QB can get the job done. I think RB will be adequate, but unless the JC kid is as good as Gartrell, this will be a step back. BTW, vs. CU last year they kept trying Bell for awhile. It became increasingly clear as the game went on that Gartrell was much better at that point.

I think their offense will be very good as long as the QB is decent, which I expect will be true once he gets past first game jitters.

Defense looks very questionable.

This is a tough game to pick as always. If CU can get a quick start like last year, I think CSU will have a tough time playing catchup with a young QB. Especially if CU can effectively control the game with the ground game pumping.

Both teams should have solid O-Lines and more questionable D-Lines.

Can't wait.

by the way, FSRM replayed the CSU-CU game from Folsom on Saturday that had Markeesha being stopped at the 1 and then with total panic, we stopped the toss sweep on the last play, when CSU could have kicked a FG to tie. I think it was '04.

But the point I wanted to make was DAVE ANDERSON. I hope one of our new receivers or redshirts can play like that guy. He was killing us. KILLING US.

Yea that was frustrating as hell because it seems like he caught everything thrown within about 5 feet of him. :bang: Then a couple years later they had Johnny Walker and he killed us nearly as bad. :sad2:

Not sure that the receivers are "off the map" good, but it is certainly a team strength this season and looks to be for the foreseeable future given that a lot of the talent red shirted last season. In addition to Greer and Morton, Fairchild has definitely been recruiting with an eye towards "NFL Type" receivers. 6'0 or above and good speed.

TJ Borky - 6'4 202 (SO)
Marquis Law - 6'4 191 (FR)
Byron Steele - 6'3 202 (FR)
Alex Johnson - 6'2 192 (FR)
Blake Swain 6'1 181 (FR)

These look to be the guys that will be carrying the program forward. My hope is two or three will break out at some point in their careers. With Borky, Law, and Steele being the most likely of the candidates.

I think the running game will surprise some folks this season. If Fairchild can find the right grind it out mix with Mason and Mosure then he can use Gaye as the change of pace back we desperately lacked last season. Gaye supposedly had legitimate 4.3 speed coming out of high school. We shall see finally if it translates on to the field.

You are far too generous with your assumptions about the QBs. Both Stucker and Eastman struggled in spring ball and I don't think Kubiak ever looked the part last year. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the red shirt was pulled from the true freshman Raineiri out of Florida at some point during the year. With the line to protect him why not give him a shot to develop with the wide outs?

At the end of the day, I just think there are far too many question marks going in to the game with CU to really feel comfortable predicting the product on the field. I read that there has been some discussion that this game be moved to later in the season going forward to put it in line with other "rivalry" games. A move that would have likely benefited both programs at different points over the last 10 years.

God I love Johnny Walker....I mean I loved when Johnny Walker played.

Seriously, that has to be on the all-time greatest State of Colorado football names of all time.
