Kingery's role reduced as Rox announcer
By Troy E. Renck and Patrick Saunders

KOA's Jeff Kingery, the radio voice of the Colorado Rockies for 17 seasons, will see his role significantly reduced in the second half of the season.

According to multiple industry sources, Kingery and the Rockies had a major disagreement over a verbal outburst by Kingery on the team bus following a road game last month at Dodger Stadium. That disagreement precipitated the change in Kingery's role. The decision had nothing to do with Kingery's calls of Rockies games.

Kingery confirmed today that he will call primarily home games for the remainder of the season.

....
On road games that Kingery doesn't broadcast, Mark Johnson, director of sports for KOA and the play-by-play man for University of Colorado football games, will team with Jack Corrigan on the radio. There are no plans for Johnson to miss any CU games.

If they eventually offer him the job, it'd be a tough gig to turn down imo.

Johnson is much better at football, IMO. But he isn't bad at baseball, by any means.

Still, I think pushing Kingery aside would be a big mistake.

Johnson voice will carry from boulder to L.A.

He's great, loud, lots of passion but man, guy has some loud pipes.

So what the hell did Kingery do on the bus that was so bad, has anyone heard?

I wasn't sure about Johnson at first, but he has really grown on me. I love his enthusiasm and voice.

Plus he was the play-by-play guy for Syracuse during their 2003 national championship season. An omen of things to come? :gobuffs:

I like Johnson for the nuts & bolts- down, distance, players coming in, etc, but to me his voice has a bit too much of that canned, game show host in it. Corrigan comes across this way too.

Kingery's voice, oth, seems conversational, which is appealing to me. His HR call is also one of my favs.

I know for a fact that Wayne Hagin and Jeff Kingery did NOT get along. Hagin thought Kingery was a world class idot. Perhaps that idocy finally caught up with him.

Being a play-by-play guy for a major league club is a sweet deal. I don't know how much money somebody would make in a gig like that, but the job itself has to be pretty sweet.

If they do replace Mark Johnson for CU games, I'll reiterate my support for Mike Haynes. I know he was having some health issues, but hopefully those have cleared up. The guy would be an AWESOME football announcer.

Am I the only one that WANTS TO KNOW WHAT THE **** KINGRY SAID!

No you're not the only one who wants to know, read my post above! :smile2:

We don't want an nd fan announcing CU games.

We already have one. Mark Johnson is from North Dakota. That's what you mean by nd, right? I can't think of any other significant school with those initials.

i like Johnson OK. but, the guy could mix in a pause from time to time or let the game come to him and Zim a little more.

i'd be interested in what set off Kingery. i think he's pretty good, but sounds like his time is numbered.

I like Mark Johnson quite a bit. He gets so excited for every play.

"ANNNNDDDDD DEMETRIOUS SUMLER PLLLOOOOWWWWWSSSS AHEAD FOR 2 YARDS"

I'll admit that Mark Johnson has done a very nice job. It's hard whenever there's a change, and I didn't know the guy from adam when he first came here. He knows the game, he knows the players, and he calls a very good game.

I do know that Alan Roach was getting $1.25 million per year as the Rockies PA guy. :wow:

That automatically boosts Kingery up a notch in my book. Ever since Hagin's "scoop" on Helton doing roids, I've thought Hagin is the king of egotistical dilweeds.
