Future schedules

Apparently there is some discussion about this on some of the premium boards (have not checked), but are we about to add SJSU to our future schedules? If so, I'm extremely disappointed. We're basically all about the WAC and MWC in the future with at least two teams each year from those conferences. Nice.

Just hope we end up playing the games against these teams because we wouldn't want to be dragged around by them like we let the MAC do to us this past offseason.

I don't think Colorado has anything to worry about re: scheduling.

First, we play in the Big 12.

Second, go to www.cubuffs.com and look at some of the schedules.
2010 includes @ CSU, @ Cal, Hawaii, and Georgia.
2011 includes @ Hawaii, Cal & Fresno State + 1 open date
2012 includes @ Minnesota, @ Fresno State, Utah + 1 open date
2013 includes Minnesota, Fresno State, @ Utah + 1 open date
2014 includes CSU, @ Oregon, Hawaii + 1 open date

I think those schedules are all plenty good now. Filling the open dates with a cupcake is a good thing, unless you are excited by the prospect of seeing CU going 6-6 for the next 5 years.

I have no problem with cupcakes. I can live with cupcakes, would prefer another BCS team, but I can live with cupcakes. I do have a major issue with signing home and homes with teams like SJSU. Absolutely no reason we should be traveling to SJSU, just like we should not be going to Toledo this year unless it like the Fresno series, a two for one.

At least I can take the train to the game.

SJSU sucks an elderly whore's ass.

At this stage in the development of our program, it's probably wise to schedule WAC and MAC teams. Stay away from the big dogs for now.
Why start out in the hole?

Not to defend the AD, but we don't know what is feasible to schedule. We can say, only schedule a 2 for 1 with SJSU, but that doesn't mean we can wave a magic wand and make other teams do what we want. We are cash-strapped and we don't travel extremely well, and big time teams are increasingly scheduling the creamiest cupcakes they can find.

That's not to say I like this move if it happens, and for all I know we could have gotten a better deal, I'm just saying there is a limit to what is possible in the marketplace and that might mean we had to do this.

I like the deal.. At this point we aren't big enough of a program to start demanding 2 for ones from teams like San Jose State. Heck, even Texas is going to Wyoming this year..

Nice to see the AD get away from the unrealistic Coach Mac schedules (where many here still cling to for some reason).

We ain't playing CSU in 2011, 2012, and 2013?

Hawk better make his move this year, I think the schedule is much tougher in the nonconference in the few years.

i have no problem with playing sjsu at their place. we have enough alumini within 50 miles to fill that entire stadium. i got a lot of love for the norcal fanbase after they drank their watchsite outta booze.

Ther is the added bonus of playing in Cali too. Cu likes to play there and give local fans a chance to see games, plus more exposure in Cali.

I seem to remember a team getting to play an extra game if you travel to Hawaii [2011]. If my memory is correct, is that still the case?

If we recruit out of Cali, then what's wrong with going there? That is part of the reason we are playing a game in Ohio, we are starting to bring kids from there.

If we dont fill out the 2011-2013 holes with CSewe, this "Mac-days" Buff doesnt have a problem with filling it with other cupcakes. The rest of the Big XII, and other CFB powers are certainly doing it. Conf play is tough enough. Beating up on small Cal schools worked for the Nubs to get recruits out of Cali in their hey-day. Why not use that tactic ourselves since it makes much more sense for us since we have a much larger fanbase/alumni in the state?

sounds good to me. Our schedule's currently strong enough.

That's the trend I see in some of this scheduling. I know people don't like road games in Toledo (or Miami) OH or in San Jose, but Ohio and Cali are areas we've been trying to recruit. I really think Bohn is looking for exposure in those areas and chances for recruits to come see the team play closer to home, without sending the Buffs in to play USC or OSU non-conference. Not to mention they're probably not going to get home and home series from those programs...

I'm with BB on this one, we shouldn't be scheduling home-and-home series with teams like Maimi(OH) and SJSU, those should only be 2-for-1 deals or just 1 home game at our place. Series like the UGA or WV ones make for great intersectional match-ups. Having 1 or 2 non-conference games against a MAC or WAC team is fine, but CU shouldn't be traveling to their places.

We are recruiting primarily out of southern California, but we do have recruit Nick Hirschman out of Las Gatos (very near San Jose.)

25 of our current roster are from California. (Plus recruit Nick H = 26)
36 of our current roster are from Colorado. (Plus 3 CO recruits = 39.)

But only 3 of those 26 Cali players are from north of LA: Bakhiatai, DeVenny and recruit Hirschman. Interesting.

Yeah, let's play SJSC and get a little something going up north.

You answered my question and did the research.
I suspect that there is a long history of CU recuiting where SoCal players outnumber the north country.

If recuiting is the goal, seems like we'd get more bang for the buck w/ San Diego State.

Again, I would not be totally opposed to playing at SJSU. I think it is fine, just as I think playing at Toledo is fine. But I really think we should be pushing 2-for-1s in those situations. We should be trying to get as many home games as possible, every single year. You don't build a solid fanbase at Folsom by playing less games there, maybe I'm wrong though.

Would it not be exciting to actually have (gasp) seven homes some years? I know it is a radical concept and all, but I would love it.

That makes sense, actually.

The only downside I can see is that these teams aren't going to generate huge interest at Folsom in the first place. If you get Toledo or SJSU or a team like that coming in twice in 3-4 years, are they going to be even less of a draw the second time? There may be other ways to get more home games without bringing these teams in twice...

Don't have anything against this...I'd love to say we should be pushing 2 for 1 and all these other great situations, but the damn truth is we haven't been an elite team with an elite fan base either...we're not selling out our own house, we're not traveling very well, and we're not a team that would bring all the fans out to see in San Jose either...we gotta start winning games in order to have the leverage to schedule who and where we want
