Cover the Buffs for Big12hoops.com

This would be good for Scotch Buff to do. dyemeduke, stampy and some others (Mick Included) would be good candidates as well.

Make it a group effort. Seriously, any one of those guys would be great for this type of thing.

Where's my man - COE DOUGLAS?! Thanks for the recommendation - I'm at work; I'll check it out later. :) I shouldn't even be on this site right now, but whatever - the office is dead.

i don't have too much extra time, but i don't see much else around the Buff blogosphere that's as basketball committed as we are here (but i'm just here and less so at NB)...i don't do rivals or been to Buffbackers in ages.

maybe we create a collective identity or false dude. and rotate, contribute, or work as a group? it's unwieldy, but just an idea.

as it stands, if the board takes off (who knows?) there won't be any Buff representation...and the guy is from Baylor and all his experience is at Texas papers so (familiar story) i'm wagering it will be a HEAVY South lean.

couldn't hurt to send the guy a mail and see what the deal is.....or just say there's 5-6 of us at Allbuffs.com that think we could represent for our school and team. at minimum, let the guy know we exist and link us as a Buff source.

OR: if a student in the J-School who was looking to get into sports media (there are a lot of them), i'd mos def defer to them and i know some people over there...had some Journalism students in classes. give them some "resume" material.

and if somebody like Scotchy (no pressure, just using you as an example) just wanted to step the f*** up do it....i say more power.

I'd be down to help out - just wouldn't want to be solely responsible for it. Since it wouldn't be my primary job, I could foresee myself getting drunk after work and deciding to not do an article that evening.

I don't know what happened to Coe, but I knew personally. I know for sure that'd he be willing to help out too...unless he joined a cult or something.

It'd be better if you got drunk THEN wrote your article :smile2:

I agree - I'll write an email. If there's a J-School kid that wants to do it, then I don't think there's anything wrong with just giving letting him take over for us...unless his/her articles become like JimmyBuff's posts.

Mark Peterson,

I'm writing to you regarding the open call for a beat writer covering all Big 12 Basketball teams. As I'm sure you're aware, there are numerous college sports message boards on the internet, and I have been a regular poster/reader of one for the University of Colorado. The website is allbuffs.com, and the vast majority of posters there are well-informed fans of the Buffaloes.

We were made aware of your need for writers, and there is a group of us avid CU Basketball fans that would like to collectively cover the program for you. Unfortunately, CU does not get too much national coverage, so most of the media attention the program gets is on the regional level. I will proudly and confidently state that the information I have received from fellow posters on allbuffs.com is just as, if not moreso, insightful, well-written, witty, and intriguing than the vast majority of articles I have read on the Denver Post, Daily Camera (Boulder's local newspaper), CU's Scout.com site, and others. This isn't meant as an arrogant slant against those entities, as they all have talented writers that often provide much valuable information. However, when I want to get an interesting commentary on the basketball program, or read about the latest recruiting news, the posters at allbuffs.com consistently provide.it.

The interested group is tentatively about three-five people. Last year, I think at least one allbuffs.com poster attended every regular season game. I apologize for not having a firm number or everyone's contact information at this time, but I assure you that we would represent CU Basketball well.

Thank you for your time, and any more additional information you could provide us would be much appreciated (i.e. word counts requirements, weekly deadline times during October, topic requirements, etc).

That's the email I sent Mark Peterson. Nice find Mick. I just read this thread again, and realized that I was the only one to explicitly say I was down to help. :) - hopefully some of you guys meant to state that you too wanted to help.

letter works for me. let's see what Mr. Peterson has to say. i'd have to see what the deal is before committing to too much, out of necessity on the one hand and on the other....the realistic sense that dye has above: free time means beer and bourbon which may be counter-productive in this sense but inalienable as a hobby.

Who is best to run it depends on what type of style we are aiming for. Here are my thoughts;

1) All around -Scotch
2) Analytical - stax
3) Eternal sunshine - Sweller
4) Liberal slant - Bisonic
5) Machiavellian - valdez
6) Inclusive of concession stand info - Mick
7) best looking - stamp

Nice work duke. I think a combo effort of all you guys would be great.

Thanks for the recommendation guys!

I'll add UnionBuff's name to the list as well if she's interested.

If it's by committee then I'm in. Splitting it up like they do over on PurpleRow would be good. Life is gonna be busier during the season and looks like I'm only gonna make 6 or 7 games.

Edit: Sweller and Bisonic would be good for this as well.

I'm planning on getting a pair of season tix and going to every game this year (and watching every game that's televised locally). I don't want the responsibility of a blog, but I'm happy to post game summaries here. I'll also give my usual contributions of any recruiting info I come across. Anything I post on Allbuffs can be copied over to the Big 12 blog.

I think it makes most sense if there is 1 person in charge rather than a group of 3-5 people. Others can contribute via fan posts (see Ralphie Report format). It works very well at RR.

I agree that one person should be in charge - whether it be Scotch, Mick or whoever. I recommend whoever has the most amount of time...whoever that is again.

All we need to do is come up with one blog post every week during the season, and whenever we want during the off-season. That'll be really easy in my opinion. We can just go there and rant if we want...albeit we would need some couth to our ranting.

I have season tix, but I suck and don't know **** about basketball (well, or anything). Plus, gonna be busy.

I hope to hell you guys get it. Allbuffers FTW

Yes, YES!

i don't want to be in charge....it wouldn't be fair for us to make the effort, and me drop the ball. i have stretches of time with grading/midterms and things where i'm MIA for a week at a time.

an ancillary role would be all i could commit to, in fairness to everybody.

Paul,

Send me an official list of everyone who is in this group, along w/ e-mail addresses and current location. I'll figure something out and we'll go from there. Thanks

Mark Peterson

Okay - so that is the email that Mark just sent me today. I'm in to write a few entries every now and then, but I'd need some help with going to games and such. Mick mentions that he's wiling to help - I think both of us would like some more help.

I'm willing to be "in charge" - not that I want to, so by any chance if someone out there WANTS to head up this thing, feel free to speak up.

All that are interested want to send me a PM?

I'm not sure what I can contribute to the blog. If you would like to take my recruit profiles go ahead. Maybe I can just post recruiting updates.

we should ask this Peterson cat if he's got something he's written or someone else has that would serve as a kind of template for what he's after.

Good luck guys! I am sure you can cover everything between all of you.... shouldn't be more than a few articles for each of yas.

BB and Mick - will you PM me contact info for you guys. I understand that you might not want to give too much info, but at least your real names and email addresses would be helpful. I'll ask him for a template in my response, but I figure I should fulfill his request of people's names/information.

Valdez - I think recruiting updates from you would be more than helpful. If you don't want to submit things directly to Big12hoops, that's obviously cool, but if you would like to add personal commentary, want to send me your info too?

The more the merrier - come on! :smile2: I think this could be fun.

dye: i notice that Peterson asked for a location, i'm in Boulder. i sent you the other stuff. i ran into a former student today who might be interested. good kid, loves hoops.
