I hate closed practices

With the closure of practices last week, news on the Buffs has pretty much dried up.

One of my local radio guys had an interesting comment re: closing practices. There are 32 NFL football teams. If I wanted to, I could go to every single one of their training camps and watch every single one of their practices.

The paranoia of college football coaches is really ridiculous.

There's a real good book titled "How Football Explains America" by Sal Paolantonio. In it, it talks about Vince Lombardi, and Bill Parcels, and their tutelage as asst coaches at West Point and how Gen MacArthur made analogies between football and the battlefield. Keep you plans a secret and never let your enemy get an indication of what they might be.

I have no problems with closed practices. There are too many people who cheat and lie and look for any edge over your opponent out there. As long as the W's begin showing up, the fanbase will be happy with that practice.

Actually, the Bronco's closed one of their practices... can't remember if it was Saturday or Sunday.

I'd close them too, all those boo's and " F-you mcdaniels" shouts would be distracting. If they ever want to pipe in crowd noise, they better not pick the broncos crowd, that could get ugly.

i am looking forward to seeing the 10+ wins. it will be like unwrapping a super-special christmas present all season long. the closed practices adds to the suspense and surprise...

:smile2:

I had one of the weirdest dreams the other day. Kyle Ortons mom was on the sideline of a broncos game and a player ran into her. She got hurt and the crowd booed her.

I had a dream I had sex with my wife and woke up on the couch.....

The Buffs were open for awhile, much like the NFL camps are open for awhile. The Broncos open practices end either the end of this week or early next week as they install more of the playbook. This is the same around the league.

I have no problem with paranoid coaches this time of the year. Just get some freaking wins.

If so, why did the Pats feel they had to secretly video their opponents?

My complaint wasn't really that I can't go to practices. Obviously, being in Oklahoma, I can't go to practices.

But the media coverage all but disappears too. There was, what, ONE article about the Buffs in today's papers? (At least according to the RSS bot)

Maybe this is a problem more with the culture of Colorado/Denver and not being such a sports hungry town.

Ah well.. just a different world from these parts, I suppose.

The crazy thing to me is that say for example at USC, Pete Carroll doesnt close the practice as far as I know, yet they seem to win 10 games a year and havent finished below the top 5 something like 5 years in a row.

I really dont think it gives people all that much help when watching, its one thing to close practice once game prep begins, but right now I dont think it will give all that many people a huge advantage, because honestly, even with the practices closed other teams seem to already have an advantage over us...

When your 2-deep is littered with 4* and 5* players, you don't worry about others seeing your scheme. You just worry about executing. And when you win 10 games every year, you're not real worried about your job.
