Maybe Tyler Hansen is not the answer ether.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

We all like Cody as a person and wish the best for him, but his time is over. After B Jack and a 2-10 year we were happy to have someone with some QB skill. Unfortunately, Cody has struggled his whole collage career, and (from a skill level) is one of the worst QB’s in the Big 12. He could turn it around and become a great QB and I could win the lottery. I think both those things would be great, but not very likely. If Tyler is not any better than Cody, then the Buffs should be getting the next QB ready. Evans or Lobato should be being prepared to take over this year. Flopping back and forth between Cody and Tyler for another year is an unacceptable solution to CU’s QB woes. Ohio State didn’t worry about burning a year of Pryor’s eligibility, because they wanted him ready for the next season. A Bowl game is not a good enough goal for the Buffs. If this season is another mediocre year for the buffs, then get started early prepping the young players for a big run the next year. If we start next year with a completely green QB and WR’s, then statistically we are in for another mediocre year. Don’t forget two years of poor recruiting is bad, three years is devastating. The future is now.

If Dan can’t make the hard decisions of playing the best players and not the ones he and his staff like the most. Then he needs to go ASAP. If Bohn can’t make the hard call, then find an AD that is committed to winning. If Dan wakes up and smells the Coffee, then we as fans need to back off and give him the chance to improve the team. Dan made a good start on rebuilding this team; don’t let that work go to waste.

There's no indication that any QB on the roster would have done better this weekend than Cody. Sam Bradford looked bad with no blocking. Cody isn't going to ever set the world on fire, but he can be efficient IF the blocking holds up (not just O-Line, but picking up the blitz with TE's and RB's) and WR's know where to go.

It looked like an early preseason game in terms of what our offense knew what to do. Simmons, WillJeff and Wright were often clueless.

I'm giving Kiesau some time to fix this. I liked some things I saw a lot. I don't understand why we couldn't handle their front 4 at all. That blows me away.

I don't think Hansen is the answer either he maybe marginally better than Hawkins, but it is just that marginal. Both of these guys are too small and too slow, I have a real hard time saying we should start a true freshman, but at least against Wyoming and Toledo (assuming we are winning) we need to get either of the freshman some burn.

I agree that Tyler isn't going to take us to where we all ultimately want to be but he is a clear upgrade over Cody if for nothing else than the added trouble his running does to defenses. By redshirting him, we're just prolonging the medirocity of the program

Any QB can look good if they have all day to survey the field and throw the ball. However, that is not going to happen often and the good QB's are the ones that can handle the pressure and make something out of nothing.

Hawkins has no speed and a weak arm which limits his ability to do anything. And even when he had time, he was consistently behind his receivers or throwing the ball too high.

But most unforgivable was his unwillingness to stay in the pocket and let a play develop, preferring instead to get rid of t as quick as possible. This isn't intramurals, it's big 12 football brother, and panicking in the pocket won't cut it (Unless your daddy is the coach maybe, huh?).

Let's be real, Hawkins probably wouldn't make most of the other teams in the Big 12, let alone be starting for them. His being the starter has nepotism written all over it, imo.

do you remember how godawful Hansen looked throwing the ball last year? Cause he was better in practice this fall, but he was still pretty bad. Even if he made up time, Hawk is simply doing what is best for the guy and trying to RS him to improve spacing. Especially since our OL sucks ass, if I were TH I would be all about getting last year back.

Cody can't throw a decent ball past 8 yards with any consistency. His arm is not strong enough to get the ball to receivers before the DB’s close down. He has never shown an ability to hit a player in stride, and he does not see the field well. He consistently doesn’t see wide open receivers and throws into double coverage. But lets blame the O-line. Reesing and Danials are small guys with average O-lines that got the job done.

I think they both have draw backs, Hansen doesnt have much stronger of an arm and he is less accurate than Cody.

I disagree with this somewhat. The Rams did NOT respect Cody's arm. I watched their safeties creep up to the line ALL game. Hansen has a better arm, and would at least force their line to keep containment at the risk of Tyler taking off.

I disagree Cody was often completely through his progression and throwing to the cutoff man and still not being hit. The run blocking was suspect.

With the Rams pass rush, Tyler would've been awesome running ...

I think we would've won the game had we come out with Hansen and Scott in the second half.

BENCH CODY

BENCH SUMLER

4 sacks. tons of pressure. Not coverage sacks either. Cody would drop 5 and then get buried. you CANT argue he had all day to pass on a consistent or even often basis.

They were teeing off. You have to get someone who can break containment and scramble. Force the Rams to maintain containment.

his arm, or the fact that our 2 starting wideouts were 5'11" and 5'8" with no speed? Cody can't throw to wideouts who can't get off the line and can't get separation.

The average yards per catch was less than 10 yards. He hit the cutoff more than the first and second option combined.

CSU had 17 pass attempts and 2 sacks and CU had 40 pass attempts and 4 sacks. Looks to me like similar pressure and Stucker was far superior.

Keep hearing a lot about C-Hawk and how accurate his arm is, dont see it in game time. He is always throwing behind his WR, or they are having to slow down to wait for the ball. he never looks deep, always dumps off to the under WR and never ever looks to run for the first or even positive yrs....Hansen may not be the answer, but he will take off and get the first down when he sees the field open up.....CSU had no respect for C-Hawk, and they knew he would not run

Just for the sake of getting it out there: Evans was a beast in highschool both running and passing right? Didn't someone on rivals call him a poor man's Tim Tebow? I don't see that it would be that bad to give him a shot on the first couple of series against Toledo. The rockets are bad against the run so why not have him run that QB draw that Florida runs and batter their d-line and linebackers till they break down. Really, is this an impossibility? Can we get a ruling on this?

dude... no. I saw him pass in person... He is TERRIBLE. Needs to completely rebuild his throwing motion. NOT READY. Hansen first.

Lobato throws a nice ball, but can't move.... yikes.

Apparently Evans was horrible in fall camp. Also, he had a really, really bad socal allstar game.

Stucker has 2 very good, experienced receivers who looked the part. Cody had a walk on with no game experience, a good route running, small, fairly slow experience receiver with good hands and a transfer with about 10 days in the program. Neither QB will set the world on fire but ours didn't have the benefit of regular receiving threats or any semblance of a running game to help.

The big question is why our receivers were in man coverage all evening but rarely got open. Also, Cody had numerous opportunities to gain good yardage on the designed roll outs but failed to run, instead choosing to force a pass or hit a short come back pattern when running would have gained more..

If Hansen isn't the answer then we're in big trouble because it doesn't sound like Evans will be ready anytime soon.

You're absolutely right, but why is this the same case every single year for us. Other fan-bases get to see their teams at least move the damn ball and score even when they don't win. Why is it that only we have to deal with the impotence that is our offense. Even Baylor and Iowa State have an offense. Is it so much to ask for a QB who can throw the ball vertically from point A to point B without it being knocked down, underthrown, or intercepted? Failing that is it too much to ask for a running game that pounds between the tackles for three yards and a cloud of dust? This is just basic football competence we're longing for here. Year after year the Buffs offense looks like it's a titanic struggle just to make a first down let alone get into the endzone. Do they make a viagra pill for football offenses?

I saw him too. He throws a better ball than Cody.

I saw him with the 3rd O-line and he was running for his life and still threw some nice balls. The reports were he had a slow release and not a bad arm. He needs to be given some reps to have a chance.

I want to know why they don't get Cody to the line early so he can use his coach on the field mentality to call some audibles? Read the defense and call an appropriate play? I mean from how they refer to him as a god of the practice field and the film room, he might as well at least make plays with his head.

1. he's a freshman and arrived at camp late due to said all star game being in July. Lobato and Jerry Slota had two months of practice with the team before Evans was there to get familiar with the routine. In other words: you can't judge a kid by two weeks of work.

2. allstar games are, well, a joke. I went to Colorado's and it was a mix and match of kids from different schools and different styles. Hard to get any rhythm going. Most of the top QBs don't play them (Barkley didn't and he was asked, too) because they don't want to get hurt, especially with kids who have no allegiance to them. Evans played his out of respect for his HS coach, who was coaching the allstar game.

Buffan,

I would have liked this thread a LOT better if it were called "talking about our QB situation" or something else. I don't like calling out a player by name, especially in a thread title. Tyler, and Cody, Seth, Jerry, Clark, all of them ... they are college students doing their best, as the saying goes. Tyler may not be the answer, but he hasn't even been asked the question yet, if you ask me.

Does anyone think that the reason that we weren't getting plays off with more than 1 or 2 seconds left is because it's taking a while for Kiseau to call the play?

Why was cody going to the sideline for each play? Doesn't he have a radio in his helmet? (isn't that what the green dot sticker indicates?)

I agree that if Cody does have one strength, it's knowing the plays and audibiling if he doesn't like the defense - so why didn't he really get the opportunity to do that?

Again, a viable running game and receivers that safeties have to respect will make a lot of those things happen. One back sets with tight splits on running plays and play action passes every time the full back is in the game won't and don't help imo (when we did run with the fullback in the game the play wasn't a lead block but a decoy). As has been mentioned by others, we had several dropped balls that would have gained decent yardage but instead put us in 2ne/3rd and long where the D was able to dictate. Not many QBs in the country could have been successful under those circumstances.
