Is there a player on the roster capable of a "line in the sand" moment?

Pretty sure it was at UCLA in 2002 during half time that Tyler Brayton took athletic tape and drew it down the middle of the locker room and challenged his teammates to step it up and stand together.

Do we have any one capable of this on the roster? I was thinking at halftime Sunday, that I sure hoped that some player was in a complete rage over the first half performance and would inspire and motivates his teammates. Sadly, there does not appear to have been such a moment.

I want to see some ****ing fire out of these guys on Friday. Play like your hair is on fire, come out ready to smash someone and run them over.

I'd even settled for a Blutarsky like motivational speech. Something to rally these kids. Certainly does not seem like the coaches are willing to do it.

if that loss alone does not do it (and the coaches obviously don't have the intensity to do it) I hope some leaders step up...Good time for DS to establish himself as a the vocal leader.

The problem in this area is twofold, IMO.

#1 - very young team. Not a lot of veteran leaders

#2 - Cody is a very outspoken leader of the team, and he's lockstep with Talkin Sr.

You are correct, BoBo Jr was not even the best leader on that team.

Well, everyone was pretty afraid of Brayton. That's one advantage to having some scary dudes on your team. Face it, we have alot of nice guys on this team.

My candidates would be Ryan Miller, Jeff Smart or Marcus Burton as to who would best challenge the current Buffs in this manner.

I think any player is capable of doing it, just standing up and getting it tone is 80% of the battle. You never know where you'll find leadership until the chips are down.

I think Cabral could get it done too.

Guys like that are gone. Hawk has made this team pacifists. He doesn't want guys getting angry over losses, the positive no emotion mantra is the way.

I thought ryan miller would be the guy to be angry and outspoken over the loss but he went with the same company line as hawk.

Time for the leaders to light a fire. Pride,passione,urgency whatever you want to call it, someone needs to demand it.

Coach Mac was inspirational. absolutely, positively, earth-moving inspirational.

he could get crowds fired up. he could get individuals fired up. he was great in groups, large or small.

i don't know if we'll ever be lucky enough to get a guy that fiery again. he was special.

I have to think Cabral was the reason behind the defense coming out fired up in the second half.

i think this is where the coach's son in the locker-room has the biggest effect. sure, either Cody is or isn't better than Hanson....that aside, it's less likely that a "players only meeting" or someone is going to give the "maybe we just have to go get this on our own a couple times to get our sh*t together" speech...when the HC's son is sitting next to you in the locker-room.

a high school buddy of mine worked in the OU AD when Kelvin Sampson was the hoops coach and was friends with a couple players. and he said they all liked Kellen Sampson (Kelvin's son who was on the team), but they didn't like having him around all the time...like after a loss.

not saying it's going to happen but i can see the team rally for a 5-6 win type season. which would just mean another interminable off-season of the same.

Miller is certainly a guy who will do it. Against FSU, as he was being helped off the field with his broken leg, he stops, turns to O which is huddled up, and starts barkin'. from where I was sitting about 50 yards away, you could see the rage in his face and the spit flying from his mouth.

Just thinking about it gets me fired up. Hell let me in the locker room!! issed3:

That would be sa-weet. Then he turned around and ran onto the Rocket field and ran for over 200 yds. The O got its spark for the rest of the season and the D soon followed. That would be the stuff that legends are made of.

If something like this happened back in the early 90's the first thing many of us would have done would be to get a good o-line / d-line fight going. There needs to be a reckoning when you get imasculated up front. I remember in '93, we lost to Stanford and had a bye the next week. We had fights every day. Nothing serious but Mac would let it go long enough so people knew. That kind of intensity seems to be lacking here in my opinion. Screw nice, we need asskickers up front to set the tone. I suspect many of these guys have that in them. It just needs to be encouraged!

I remember those fights during practice. There was certainly plenty of emotion coming from those guys. Especially the OL.
