Kevin Sumlin: just just beat a top 10 team

Yeah, lets go hire the Houston coach. You couldn't pick him out of a lineup before today but let's hire him because he won one game against an overrated and poorly coached Okie State team. .. You guys crack me up..

FWI: This guy was hired as a WR coach under Barnett for 3 weeks and then went off to OU to be the tight ends coach..

Let's go after Turner Gill too..

Hey dumbass, if you read the threads, you will notice that I wanted SUmlin before this game was even played. There are a lot of factors why I want him.

 Kevin Sumlin the next CU coach..

why laugh?

Good guy, offensive minded, took Houston to bowl and 8-5 his first season, beat a good Okie st team on the road, is a good recruiter with Texas ties, especially the Houston area. He is an up and coming and will be a great HC at a BCS school some day, just hope it's CU!

Works for me....have Pissbomber make him an offer!

Because it would be an absurd hire especially when you have a former ex-Buff coach (EB) in the NFL who would run circles around this guy in recruiting and would bring much needed passion to the program. No one is going to be jumping up and down if we hire Kevin Sumlin.

I would take EB as well. But Sumlin would be a good risk IMO, better than what we have.

You sure about that? hawk had a resume that easily was as good (if not better) than Sumlin's..

Sumlin has been able to cherry pick the great job that Briles did rebuilding that program.. I'd like to see a few more years before I'd consider him a potential hire.

Plus, I'm not a huge fan of looking to the sideline at the coaches OU offense. Its annoying.

They both sound like good candidates. Sumlin has the longer coaching history but EB would definitely generate more excitement amongst the fans and boosters.

The academics will never allow that.

I love EB, and no one disputes his passion, but what makes people think he would be a good head coach? Just askin.

Agreed.....it would be a huge risk. As someone else said, we need a proven commodity at this point, at any cost.

1) Sumlin has been a HC, EB hasn't
2) Sumlin has run an offense, EB hasn't
3) Sumlin is a bigger name in recruiting outside of Colorado than the RB coach of the Minnesota Vikings

Bieniemy has been a career position coach. If he weren't an ex-Buff, nobody would be bringing his name up at all. We are not in a position to make the next coaching search an exercise in nostalgia...

People will be jumping up and down if the next coach is a winner. People will be pissed if the next coach is not - even if the next coach is name Bieniemy...

Well we don't.. There's a risk on whomever we take.. EB can recruit, EB can motivate, EB will bring passion. I will take that and see how it goes on whether he can coach or not.. Remember, Mac wasn't a great gameday coach either and we were pretty successful with him.

Note: I will not support a coaching change if EB is not given an interview by that AD we have. I will not support another left-field out of the family coaching hire by Bohn.. I have no confidence in him and neither should anyone else if you judge it by his history of hiring football coaches.

Talkins, Hawkins or whatever you want to call him was a proven commodity.
I call him Danny...and despite Bohn's declaration that he had "hit a home run," Hawkins was not proven commodity....I am talking about finding someone who is a proven winner.

Exactly how many games have you watched Sumlin coach in your life? He's put up one winning season with players he didn't recruit and he's a known commodity? Please.

I think it would be a ridiculous hire.. The coach at TCU would be a much better choice than him.

Dude, you are WAY out of line. Jackass AD? I think that Mike Bohn has wonders for this athletic department and university. Whether he works out or not, Hawkins was NOT a left-field hire. Being a former Buff is not a requirement in my book. I'd love to see EB, Karl Dorrell, John Embree, etc get a chance to interview, but it's more important to me that we find the right guy. Coach Mac wasn't in the Buff family when we plucked him from Michigan. He turned out pretty good.

Just because Bohn isn't incompetent like Dick Tharp doesn't necessarily mean he's doing a great job. I know this is surprising to many of us but around the country they are many AD's that do exactly what Bohn is doing in terms of promoting the athletic department, raising funds, etc.

A dead man could have walked in and did a better job than Tharp.

I stand by my statement (okay calling him a jackass was out of line, I apologize and edited it), Bohn has not proven he can hire the right coaches.

I won't argue that Mike's coaching hires have been instant successes (although I think Bzdelik is still too early to judge).

I've watched 2-3 games. I've followed his career ever since he passed through CU. He is a good coach. So is Patterson. Maybe even better, actually. I'd be very happy with Patterson too.

I never said Sumlin was the only choice. That's more the M.O. of the Bieniemy brigade. I really don't understand, when we're now in the midst of over a decade of less than dominant CU football, why the **** we have to stay "in the family" to hire a coach. The family isn't exactly loaded with highly sought after coaching prospects... If it were fusker fans demanding that, people here would be making fun of them left, right and sideways. And rightly so...

The "CU family" consists of what, Bieniemy and Embree? Out of those two I think Embree is better HC material. Your point about Sumlin not winning with his players is good, he might just be Rick #2. Honestly though, you can't dispute Sumlin can coach offense. At the very least we'd actually be able to field an offense capable of putting 30+ points on the board.

The two years EB was here coaching, we had our best 2 years of this decade.. Just look what he did coaching up the RB's during this time.

EB played here during the best years of CU football..

EB will have the support of the alumni and ex-players.

EB can bring a perspective to potential recruits that you can be successful here at CU because EB was. Don't think for a second we still don't have an image problem out of the state for big time prospects. EB can help us overcome that.

I'm almost ready to dump Hawk right now just to support EB to be the next coach because I'm so fired up about the possibilities of how good we can be.

EB would be the true home run.

EB for coach :woot:

Okie State has bad luck with tipped passes.. First the Cody Crawford tip to Scotty last season and then today's game winner on 4th and goal.
