Found our new coach!

Top of the list!

You do know that list is alphabetical, right???:lol:

Just being on that list doesn't mean you're a great head coaching candidate. Just ask Mike Shula. Or Kevin Steele. Or John Blake. Or Dennis Franchione.....

Keep hating on EB.. When he turns it around I hope you are the first to eat the crow..

EB for coach.

I don't hate EB. I'd like to have him on staff. I just think maybe we ought to think about more than nostalgia when we make a hugely important hire... Like somebody who has actually run a program. Or designed an offense. But I guess that just makes me an asshole.....:rolleyes:

Dehm, that is a sweet helmet, you might say. Not very greenish-yellow back then.

Or Meyer or Saban.

Is it hard to type from under EBs desk???

 Good coaches know how to delegate and to surround themselves with good assistants. Just because EB hasn't been an OC doesn't necessarily mean he can't become a good or great coach.

How about Mike Sanford at UNLV...was Utahs offensive coordiantor....has UNLV looking really good

Again, we are going in a direction of non-BCS that have had very mild success..

After Hawkins and Talkins I don't think the fanbase will be interested in another non-BCS coach.

The ex-players will be clamoring for an ex-Buff if we end Hawk. And they will say it VERY LOUDLY.

Even though he has no hc experience i really think EB is exactly what we need. He will put emotion into this team that does have talent despite the record. And his history of recruiting leads me to believe he will continue to improve our level of talent. As long as he can get good assistant coaches here I think he would be a great coach for us... yes it would be a risk but I have a good feeling about EB for coach. I also doubt this would ever happen. But my number one choice would still be Venebles

Administration would never allow it. I'd love to have EB too but it's a pipe dream.

:yeahthat:

That's one reason, as much as I like EB, that I've argued against him so hard. I really don't want people running around here bitching about whoever we do hire (if we make a change) because EB didn't get the job.

That, and there are better candidates out there, even if they don't happen to be ex-Buffs. Personally, I'm pretty damn glad we didn't get fixated on the "ex-Buff" idea when we were trying to climb out of the Fairbanks error... :smile2:

I'd love to see someone with some NFL experience. We seems to lack a systematic offensive and defensive philosophy, one we don't waver from, only improve upon. We also don't know how to make in-game adjustments. Thrown in the ability to recruit by using the NFL pipe dream (Charlie Weiss used it for 3 years) and we have ourselves a coach. I know there is like 0% chance shanahan would come in here, but that would really be sweet IMHO.

...not to mention the fact that it's dated 2005...

So who else are we going to be able to afford when the buyout dust settles? EB would be the cheapest and best deal for us right now. Could be a total home run and then he holds us up for a better contract after that first contract is up. You know he would come to CU cheaper than pretty much anyone else we could get, especially some re-tread. By the time he is able to show off what he can do, we will be done paying off the buyout of Hawkins and can either afford to give EB a new contract or give someone else a chance if EB didn't work out so well.

What if the Vikings won the super bowl? Stranger things have happened. Arizona was in the SB last year!! This board would be overflowing with Hire Scooter threads.

Yeah, no doubt... That is one of the reasons why I am hoping we cut the chord to Hawkins and get this thing done ASAP. EB will get more offers for big things in the coming years if we don't offer first.

Can someone briefly summarize the incidents that Bieniemy was involved here for me as a player and/or coach?

I keep hearing about them but I haven't been able to find any information.

Just curious.

I could be wrong (and someone please correct me if needed) but as far as I remember it was a DUI in Boulder around 2000ish?

The other controversy was him being "too hard" on Marcus Houston which may have led to his transfer.

To me, drunk driving is a huge thing, but in Boulder, I can see how it can happen in Boulder pretty easily. If it were on I36 between Boulder and Denver and the state patrol got him, then I would be more worried.

i think it was around 9th and Canyon. could be wrong, though. i remember EB was banned from the campus for a while (?). there was an issue with players (i think involving EB) at the Taco Bell on Baseline where there was or wasn't cocaine when he was a player.

i think he had to return to school and finish his degree before he could coach, and i give the guy credit for that.

Wasn't there also some issue with a fire at his parents house and his getting into a scrap with the firefighters or something??

for me, i'm not totally on the EB bandwagon for this reason: the whole "go home again", "keep it in the family of when we used to be good" thing is a losing bet IMO.

Mike Shula, John Blake, Frank Solich, Karl Dorrell, etc.

of course by now, after the last two games....i don't even know what you do. we made Toledo look like a combo of the Coryell Chargers and Genghis Khan.

I did not know about or have ever heard about that other stuff... I did see him around 2001 or so coming out of class at Hellems one time. I will never forget it as he was one of my favorite players as a kid and I knew who he was instantly when I saw him... Anyway he had on a backpack, some books in hand and hopped on his cruiser bike and rode off. It was so odd seeing a character like him hop on a bike like that. I mean, maybe if it was a super pimped out bike or something but it really humanized him to me.

Well, who else could we get that has as much upside as him and would probably come as cheap as him? To me, having roots at CU is just a bonus and not the reason.

Would anyone be surprised if he gets an OC job somewhere in the next year or two, and then a few years after that, replaces Neu at UCLA?

Jeremy Bates

speaking of Jeremys...Jeremy Bloom...he isn't doing anything right now...he is a former buff. kidding.

This whole coaching thing needs to be done right. Stop rolling the dice on up-and-comers and get a proven commodity. I don't care if he is a buff or not, hell, I don't even care if he has ever been to CO (our recruiting pool here is pretty shallow anyway). We need to follow Washingtons lead and fork over the dough to get a winner in hear. Greg Davis...UT OC or Bud Foster...VT DC. Lets get something going with somebody that has coached for a while and considered to be one of best at their respective jobs.

Doesnt matter anyway...as much as I don't like it, hawk stays at least until the end of next year.
