If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down...

Re: If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down.

I think sometimes he actually leaves the pocket prematurely and runs into trouble.

I'd just be happy with a mobile QB. Asking for both might be a little too greedy.

Hansen fits that bill....

It's funny, I remember 4 years ago people were all excited for Hawk to sign his kid here at CU, then everyone clamored for Hawk to burn Cody's redshirt when Cox and Bjax were stinking it up.

Fact is there isn't really anyone on the roster that would be a big improvement. I really don't care if we burn Hansen's redshirt or not, but I think it would be just as likely to make the offense worse as it is better. I want them to sign a Juco QB to compete next year.

I don't think I could take another off season of waiting for a Juco guy to complete 19 credits in a summer just to make it in and have no impact.

hansen beg for the red shirt burn...take one for the team man...

Re: If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down.

Maybe this is unfair and I'm just pissed right now, but I keep thinking about Hansen's running ability and saying to myself, "At least he does something well." I'm having a lot of trouble finding the positives in Cody's game these days.

I wonder if Hansen's RS will be pulled this Saturday. I dont know how I feel about that. I hate losing but having an extra year with a QB that's not COdy is also good.

You pretty much summed up what our QB situation is.. It doesn't matter who we put it, neither are difference makers.

Re: If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down.

I am 100% in favor of a new QB, but I really don't think the Texas game is the appropriate time to do it. If we had Vince Young on the bench, that's one thing, but - no disrespect to TH - that does not appear to be the situation.

Basically, if you are going to burn the redshirt, do it last week or next week. In a game that is winnable. Not against a team that is likely to dominate us.

Re: If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down.

To me it doesn't matter if Hansen loses his RS this year. He should as we are going nowhere with Cody. Not burning him, it's just a fact. I don't think Hansen is the long term answer, either, and until we get an actual QB who can be the difference it doesn't matter. It's proven that the QB more than any other position makes the difference in how good (or bad) a team is. Use Hansen now, recruit a QB who can play and the wins will come. Until that day it's going to be more of the same.

Re: If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down.

The Broncos are a great example of a team that can win with a quarterback that is not the most athletically gifted. We need somebody who is smart and can make a few plays within the framework of the offense. Cody is, from all indications, a smart kid. What he lacks is the ability to make plays when he needs to. If Scotty isn't open, Cody panics. Seeing as he can't seem to figure out how to get the ball to anybody else, this has become an issue for us.

I have to suspect that Hansen could, at the very least, figure out how to get on the same page with more than one receiver.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. Dan Hawkins is gone after this year. Chances are that we'll have a brand new QB running the show next year. That may be Evans. It may be Hirschman. I kind of doubt it will be Hansen, but I suppose it could be. Whoever the coach is next year is going to want to have his guy running the show.

Re: If we had a QB that could hit open receivers and run with the pocket breaks down.

we'd be 4-0 and this weekends game would be a battle of top 25 teams

You don't honestly believe that, do you? It wasn't Cody who gave up 500 yards of offense to Toledo. He didn't allow WVU to run at will. He didn't make the CSU QB, in his first start ever, look like the 2nd coming of Joe Montana.

You never know. If you have star at QB, the whole team rallies around that and it tends to raise everyone's level of play. Even so, I think our coaching was so bad for those 2 games that you are probably right... just not necessarily right. :wink2:

Ok, We'd have a better chance at being 4-0 and maybe, just maybe we wouldn't be talking about how bad our teams been this year.
